Section 2: GovernanceLetter fromthe CEOWhat an incredible year! As we sit and reflecton the year that has passed, we are once againreminded of the true Australian spirit. It is notuntil you are faced with adversity and see ahand reaching out to you from the dust, thatyou can truly appreciate the kindness and lovepeople have for our way life. This past year, more of our country than everhas experienced drought and according tothe history books, it is the longest and worston record. Even with this being the case,Australian’s from around the globe have ralliedbehind our Farmers making sure that theirwords of support are heard. Our small charity has been thrust into thelimelight this past year, receiving more than 10 million dollars in donations and over 3,500families registering for help.Where did all of these new families come from? How are we going to be able to reach themall? Our warehouse heaved at the seams, fromwhat seemed like endless donations. How arewe going to distribute all of this? All of thesequestions and more raced through our mindsbut in true Aussie spirit and doing what we dobest, we dug deep, pushed up our sleeves andgot to work.Along with many helping hands we packedboxes into the night, too many nights to count. We called on our friends and family when wehave fallen short. We provided many familieswith food hampers and care packs. Postedmillions of dollars of prepaid visa cards, all inan effort to help ease the financial burden ofthose in need. One of the most important things we didwas to listen. Our Farmers and their familiesshared with us their pain, frustrations, worriesand their burdens. We shared with themyour messages of support and kindness butmost importantly we shared your passion forAustralia and our Australian Farmers. Manytimes we saw their heads raise just a littlehigher and their backs straighten with hope. Our Aussie Farmers have not yet been beaten, they will give this drought and the challenges tocome, one heck of a fight! With the long range forecast not looking sogreat, our team continues to work tirelesslyto ensure that each farmer and their familyis treated with care, respect and dignity. Our team will continue to listen and moreimportantly hear what keeps them up at night.A lot of the time it’s all about their farm butoccasionally they will let slip that a birthday iscoming up or an anniversary is not far away. This is our cue, our opportunity to show that wehave been listening and that we care. We sendthem treats and special gifts that have beendonated by you and on behalf of you. Becausewithout you there would be no Drought Angels. We always tell our families that we are thelucky ones, the ones who get to pass alongyour words of support, your generous gifts andfinancial support. They are always incredulous;how could a stranger be so kind? They arehumbled, thankful and so appreciative thatsomeone has their back.Together we will all battle the drought andany other natural disasters that come our way.The Bush Fires are now affecting those samefarmers who were in drought just last week butthey will battle through. Showing resilienceand true Aussie grit! We will remain besideour farming families and their communities, thanking them for our beautiful produce, ourclothes and for the experience of the Australianfarming way. Our goal is to protect andpreserve this land for the benefit of everyone.15

Section 2: GovernanceRecognitionWe are a charity with big hearts, making a difference to everyfarming family we assist.A Queensland family in (2018)suffering for years with the droughtIn August 2018 an application was received into Drought Angelsfrom a Queensland family experiencing drought for approximatelyeight years. The family were struggling to meet their everydayliving expenses and shared with the Drought Angels FarmerSupport Team how they were living on chicken nuggets and alittle bit of beef from the freezer. Both of their family vehicleswere running barely legal tires and they were at a point ofdire desperation. As well as the effects of the drought, health was another majorconcern for this family. The father and the son both suffer from acondition called “Gorlin Syndrome” which causes the developmentof multiple tumours to grow and cause defects in a body. DroughtAngels stepped in and provided as much financial assistance asthey were able to at the time knowing the family were far fromfinancial hardship relief .In January 2019 the family’s son underwent surgery and again inJune 2019 for the removal of tumours. The family were exhaustedfrom the constant doctors’ visits, trips to and from specialists, aswell as the ongoing drought at their back door. When a secondapplication for assistance was received in May 2019, DroughtAngels were in a better financial position to assist. The teamimmediately set to work on ways to help improve the family’sday to day situation. The email received from themother of this family afterreceiving the assistancefrom Drought Angels:““I am crying tears of joy,the feeling of support andoverwhelming kindnessthat yourself and DroughtAngels has offered, honestly gives us hopeto keep going on. Theconstant worry of what liesahead with our son anddealing with the droughtis very hard to cope withbut knowing there are suchbeautiful people out therewanting to help is just trulyamazing. From my heart,I sincerely wish to sayTHANK YOU!”Drought Angels connected them with other organisations closeto their home to help with their son’s recovery and sent themadditional prepaid visas to help ease the burden on the homefront. They sent across special “care packs” for each memberof the family so they could have a few simple but much neededessentials whilst they travel through a long and difficult road.19
