ABOUT THE BLADESABOUT THE BLADESThe wet-blade container comes as standard with the Vitamix machine. The blade isidentified by a “W” for wet. This blade is used for most of your recipes. Additionalcontainers with wet or dry blades may be purchased separately.WARNINGRotating Blades CanCause Severe Injury.DO NOT reach into the container while themachine is running.WWWet-Blade Container: Designed for processing liquids, including juice, frozen mixtures, sauces, soup, purées, batter, and for wet chopping. The wet blades can also process grainand knead dough, but they are not quite as efficient as thedry blades in this application. See instructions for drycontainer use.DDDry-Blade Container: These blades are clearly marked “D”and are designed specifically for processing dry materialssuch as grain, cereal and coffee, and are also used forkneading bread dough. The dry blades CANNOT processliquids efficiently. If you prepare herbs on a regular basis, you may wish to purchase a separate dry-blade container.CAUTIONMoving PartsMay BecomeHot withExtended Use.DO NOT touch.11

TAMPERIMPORTANTSAFEGUARDSTA M P E RCAUTIONRotating Blades Can Cause Damage.Lids and tampers are not interchangeable between differentcontainer styles, types and sizes. Use the tamper that wassupplied with your machine. How to Determine the Tamper to be Used with YourContainerBefore using a tamper during the blending process, verify that you have thecorrect tamper. If a tamper came with your machine and container at purchase,it is the correct tamper to use. If a tamper did not come with your container oryou want to determine if a tamper that you already have can be used with yournew container, please see the inspection steps and illustration below.1.Place the lid on an empty container.2.Remove the lid plug and insert the tamper. The tamper should fit easilyinto the opening. It should not come into contact with the blades no matterwhere you move the tamper inside the container3.Visually inspect: IF THE TAMPER TOUCHES THE BLADES AT ANY ANGLE,DO NOT USE THE TAMPER WITH YOUR CONTAINER.4.If you do not have the correct tamper for your container, contact VitamixHousehold Customer Service at 1.800.848.2649 or 1.440.235.4840.64 oz. / 2,0 L (SHORT)64 oz. / 2 L ShortContainer uses atamper which isapprox. 11 in. long.1264 oz. / 2,0 L (TALL)48 oz. / 1,4 L32 oz. / 0,9 L64 oz. / 2 L Tall48 oz. HOW TO USE THE TAMPERH OW TO U S E T H E TA M P E RWARNINGRotating Blades Can CauseSevere Injury. DO NOT put hands, spatulas etc.into the container while the machineis running or while the container isstill on the base. Lids and tampers are notinterchangeable between differentcontainer styles, types and sizes.Use the tamper that was suppliedwith your machine.IMPORTANT! The splash disk (near the top ofthe tamper) and lid prevent thetamper from hitting the bladeswhen the lid is secured properlyin the locked position. The container should not bemore than two-thirds full whenthe tamper is usedduring blending. To avoid overheating duringblending, DO NOT use thetamper for more than30 consecutive seconds.TamperTamper Splash DiskLidBladeAssembly If the food does not circulate, the machine may have trappedan air bubble. Carefully remove the lid plug, while making sure the lid staysfirmly in place. Release the air bubble by inserting the tamper through thelid plug opening. HINTSIMPORTANTFOR SETTINGSAFEGUARDSSPEEDSH I N TS FO R S E T T I N G S P E E DSCAUTIONNever Start on Speeds Above 1 with HotLiquids to Avoid Possible Burns.Escaping steam, splashes or contents may scald. To secure the contents, lock the lid and lid plugsecurely in place prior to operating the machine.Always start on Variable 1, slowly increase to 10.Variable SpeedBefore using the Variable Speed option, always begin with the Variable Speed Dialmarker pointed at the Stop Symbol ( ) at the top of the dial. Rotate the dial right to Variable Speed 1. To activate the blending process, press down on the Start / Stop Switch. Slowly turn the Variable Speed Dial to the desired speed dependingon the recipe used. At the end of the blending cycle, rotate the Variable Speed dial backto the Stop Symbol ( ) at the top of the dial.0451530Use the highest setting called out in the recipe foras much of the processing time as possible to makewhole-food juices, soups, shakes, frozen mixtures, purées, nut butters, and for grinding grains. Processingtimes will generally be less than one minute (mosttake less than 30 seconds). Higher speed provides thebest quality of refinement.Blending too long at too low of a speed settingwill overheat the machine and cause the AutomaticOverload Protection to turn off the machine.Blending on higher speed maximizes the motor’s cooling fan to avoidoverheating. If the mixture stops circulating, you may have trapped an air bubble. To resolve, insert the tamper through the lid plug and stir until it “burps.” If this does notwork, press the On / Off swit
