OUR CHARACTERISTIC WAY OF EDUCATINGAs a Catholic institution, Manresa School collaborates actively in the Church’smission of evangelization and social transformation. Through integraleducation, the school continuously works for the education of the “wholeperson” and the proclamation of the Christian concept of person, life, and theworld (OCWE 10-11). Specifically, the Manresa School curriculum in the GradeSchool Department also includes the following features:HOLISTICHolistic education is concerned with the development of every learner’sintellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative, and spiritualpotentials. It seeks to engage the learners in the teaching-learning processand encourages personal and collective responsibility.VALUE-BASED EDUCATIONIt is an approach to teaching that works with values. The positive learning environmentis achieved through the positive values modeled by the teachers, parents, andschool staff.LEARNER-CENTEREDThis approach encompasses methods of teaching that shift the focus ofinstruction from the teacher to the learner. This approach is self-guided, selfpaced learning, or experiences that occur outside of the traditional classroomsettings, such as Online Distance Learning (ODL), travel experiences, community field trips, etc. It focuses on skills and practices that enable lifelonglearning and independent problem solving. It gives the learners opportunitiesto lead learning activities, participate more actively in discussions, exploretopics that interest them, and design their own learning projects.MANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER3

INTERACTIVE LEARNINGOnline Distance Learning with the Utilization of Interactive Learning ActivitySheets features the teacher facilitating and engaging learners’ activeparticipation using various technologies accessed through the internet whilethey are geographically remote from each other during instruction. Amodule-type printed material called the Interactive Learning Activity Sheets(ILAS) supports their learning. Each ILAS provides knowledge of concepts andskills toward proficiency in a given subject area.INTEGRATEDIntegrated approach allows the learners to explore, gather, process, refine, andpresent information about topics they want to investigate or engage in withoutthe constraints imposed by traditional subject barrier. It allows the learners toengage in purposeful, meaningful, and relevant learning.EXPERIENTIAL LEARNINGExperiential learning approach is a process through which the learnersdevelop knowledge, skills, and values from direct experiences outside atraditional academic setting. It is a designed learning experience that includesthe possibility to learn from consequences, mistakes, and successes.INNOVATIVEInnovative approach is where teachers are inventive and creative; where theycontinue to discover and devise new methods and contents to ensure that thelearners always get the best learning experiences.MANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER4

ONLINE CLASS SCHEDULESOnline class schedules are designed so that learners will focus on two to threesubjects at a time within a specific period, which is referred to as cycle. The termis divided into 4 to 6 cycles. Each cycle consists of specific number of days.Within these specified days per cycle, learners will concentrate only on 2 - 3subjects in order to avoid unnecessary academic stress detrimental to theirmental health. This also ensures that they will master the competencies withinthe given cycle before they venture to the next set of subjects.KINDER, GRADE 1, AND GRADE 2CYCLE 1CYCLE 21st Term: Aug. 24 - Sept. 112nd Term: Nov. 16 – Dec. 13rd Term: Feb. 8 – Feb. 26CYCLE 31st Term: Sept. 14 – Oct. 12nd Term: Dec. 2 – Dec. 183rd Term: March 1 – Mar. 18CYCLE 41st Term: Oct. 2 – Oct. 212nd Term: Jan. 4 – Jan. 193rd Term: Mar. 19 – Apr. 121st Term: Oct. 22 – Nov. 132nd Term: Jan. 20 – Feb. 53rd Term: Apr. 13 – Apr. 30Subject ASubject CSubject ESubject GSubject BSubject DSubject FSubject HGRADE 3CYCLE 1CYCLE 2CYCLE 3CYCLE 4CYCLE 5GRADE 3, GRADE 15,AND GRADE6st: Oct. 5-Oct. 151st: Oct. 16-Oct. 281st: Aug. 24-Sept. 4 1st: Sept. 7-Sept. 18 1st: Sept. 23-Oct. 22nd: Nov. 16-No. 25 2nd: Nov. 26-Dec. 7 2nd: Dec, 8-Dec. 183rd: Feb. 8-Feb. 19 3rd: Feb. 22-Mar. 5 3rd: Mar. 8-Mar. 19Subject ASubject CSubject BSubject DSubject E2nd: Jan. 4-Jan. 133rd: Mar. 22-Apr. 62nd: Jan. 4-Jan.143rd: Mar. 22-Apr. 6CYCLE 61st: Oct. 29-Nov. 132nd: Jan. 27-Feb. 53rd: Apr. 20-Apr. 30Subject FSubject HSubject JSubject GSubject ISubject KMANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER7

DAILY ROUTINE ACTIVITIESThe schedule of the daily encounter is designed to provide balancedopportunities for individual asynchronous* study and synchronous**conference with the teachers. While the mode of delivery is online distancelearning, classes will still inculcate the routine and discipline customary toregular classes, such as the daily checking of attendance and normalizationperiod, specific periods for breaks and sessions, and fitting closure andevaluation at the end of the day. Certain protocols are still to be observed toestablish a respectful and systematic learning atmosphere. In general, all grade levels in the department observe the following routineactivities:1. Normalization PeriodIt includes checking of attendance, opening prayer, singing ofthe Philippine National Anthem, reciting the Pledge ofAllegiance to the Country, singing of the school hymn, recitingthe Vision-Mission of the school, and settling down the learnersfor the subject encounter. At this period, the class adviserestablishes rules and routines which will be implemented throughout theschool year; he/she introduces necessary features of the day’s encounter or theschedule for the day; and he/she reinforces positive behaviors observed in herclass, or deals promptly with behavior challenges.2. Subject EncounterIt is the period when the subject teacher presents the lessonsspecified in his/her academic learning plan; the learners are theactive recipients of the presented lessons. Different strategiesare implored to exhaust and expose the potentialities of thelearners. It is during this period when the subject matter isMANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER9

unfolded and explored, openly discussed and exercises and drills are provided;assessments to measure mastery of the gained competencies are alsoprovided.3. Healthy BreaksThese are breathers. Short breaks help the learners to improvehis/her behavior on attentiveness, boost his/her learningproductivity, reduce his/her stress, foster social skills, assist toretain a good memory, and to better prepare him/her for thenext subject encounter.4. Psychomotor ActivitiesThey are given to Nursery 1 to Grade 3 learners. The activitiesprovided are brain breaks. These are short, energizing burst ofactivities that boost blood flow, send oxygen to the brain, andhelp the young learners better retain information. Theseactivities increase on-task behavior.5. Evaluation PeriodIt is the time when the class adviser meets his/her advisory classat the end of day. He/she evaluates the day’s activities; asks forlearners’ feedback of their experiences during their subjectencounters; inquires on learners’ self-evaluation of theirperformances; questions them on how they deal with theirsubject teachers; asks queries on their accomplishments and limitations duringthe day’s subject encounters, and allows peer observations if there are any.Evaluation is done to monitor and supervise the learners’ behavior – toreinforce the positive attitude, and to check-on the behaviors that neededcorrections.MANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER10

6. Dismissal PeriodIt is conducted by the class adviser. He/she reminds the class oftheir after-class activities. The class says the closing prayer; theteacher and learners bid everyone goodbye; and the teacherdismisses the class/ lets the class go.7. Teacher-Pupil Conference and Follow-upIt is an after or before the class activity between and among theteacher and the learners. This is provided to create a venue forthe teacher and the learner/s to dialogue or have conferenceoutside the given schedule for the subject encounters. This is animportant benefit for learners with special needs and anopportunity for the teacher to give the needed assistance in academics or togive positive reinforcement to encourage them to do better/excel in whateverendeavor they engage in. The teacher sets schedule for every learner; however, those who are found to be most in need will be prioritized and be given moretime.8. Academic Assistance ProgramThis program helps learners identify difficult learning areas andbridge the gaps in their learning progress by providingsupplementary information throughout the program. Singlelevel classes are arranged to better cater for the diverse needsof pupils. The program is offered every Saturday to a fewlearners that may be required to build up their skills in Mathematics, English(Reading and Language), and Filipino. The goal of this program is todramatically reduce the number of learners who have extreme difficulty inlearning. The need for this assistance is typically determined by the results ofthe assessments and the data gathered by the teacher during the subjectencounters.MANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER11

9. Enrichment ClassesThese are learning experiences that go above and beyond whatis possible in the traditional school classroom. These classes areoffered every Saturday, and are typically extended beyond thesubjects that are taught in school. The enrichment activities arestructured and hands-on; they enrich the understanding andpersonal development of the learners; they develop soft skills and qualities; andthey involve learning by doing. The department will continuously utilize theprograms created in their Design for Change (DFC). These are enrichmentactivities provided by the different subject areas with a purpose to provideextended learning opportunities and challenges to learners who have alreadymastered, or can quickly master the basic curriculum. Enrichment activitiesprovide opportunities for learners to pursue learning in their own areas ofinterest and strengths.*Asynchronous setup means that learners are given tasks that they need to accomplish withina time frame using an online platform. Interaction between the teacher and the learners doesnot take place in real time.**Synchronous remote learning means that the class is conducted in real time, wherein theteacher and the learners log in to a single online platform.MANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER12

SAMPLE DAILY ENCOUNTER SCHEDULEIn this new mode of learning, teachers will facilitate the daily academic menu. They are also readily available to conduct online conferences for small groups, while monitoring the individual progress of each learner. On the other hand, the learners are expected to develop sound time management and personalresponsibility in handling the lessons in order to gain the maximum benefit ofthe program. The following daily learning encounter schedules will be followed in each level.Nursery 1TIME9:30 – 9:40DURATIONACTIVITY10 mins.Normalization9:40 – 10:0020 mins.10:00 – 10:1010 mins.10:10 – 10:3020 mins.10:30 – 10:4010 mins.11:00 – 11:3030 mins.Subject Encounter 1 Preparatory Activities Developmental Activities Evaluation ClosureBreak / PsychomotorActivitiesSubject Encounter 2 Preparatory Activities Developmental Activities Evaluation ClosureEvaluation and DismissalTeacher – Pupil Conferenceand Follow-upDESCRIPTIONThis is a synchronous activity whichwill be conducted using Google Meet. These are mostly synchronousactivities using Google Meet, GoogleJamboard, and Google Classroom.Psychomotor Activities will be donesynchronously, accompanied with aVideo Presentation. These are mostly synchronousactivities using Google Meet, GoogleJamboard, and Google Classroom. This is a synchronous activity whichwill be done using Google Meet. The teacher sets schedule ofdialogue or conference through theemail address, which will be donethrough telephone call or Google Meet.Self-contained class will be followed by Nursery 1 with Verbal and Mathematical Expressionsas their subjects.MANRESA SCHOOL – GRADE SCHOOL ODL PRIMER13
