Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed To Be University )Medical College, PuneSwachha Bharat MissionAs per the directions given by University Grants Commission on Swachha BharatMission in letter dated 16th August 2018, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan wasenthusiastically observed in Bharati Vidyapeeth (DTU) Medical College, Pune.Swachh Bharat Mission aims to achieve a clean India by the 150th Birth Anniversaryof Mahatma Gandhi in 2019. To make swachhta a part of education and in order tobring about behavioural changes in the medical college students, Swachh BharatAbhiyan was observed in Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College from 15th Septemberto 2nd October 2019. Dr (Mrs.) Varsha M. Vaidya, Professor, Department ofCommunity Medicine was coordinator of the programme.Awareness Programme among Medical College students.The Abhiyan was started by orientation of medical college students about SwachhaBharat Mission by Dr. Varsha M. Vaidya. Professor, Department of CommunityMedicine.

Meeting with Vice Principal for Action plan of Swachhta Abhiyan inBharati Vidyapeeth (DTU) Medical College Campus.Students were encouraged to prepare an action plan for various activities in MedicalCollege during Abhiyan. A meeting was arranged with the vice principal, Dr.Karmarkar to share this action plan for Abhiyan activities in medical collegecampus.

Cleaning Drive in the Medical college campusOn 15th September, students of second year along with the faculty cleaned the areaaround the library with enthusiasm. Every student who was the part of the SwachhaBharat Abhiyan participated in the drive and put their best efforts in it. The facultyguided the students and the importance of proper disposal of used tea cups, soft drinkbottles and cartons of packed food material was explained to the students.

Projects done by Students during 15th September 20181stOctober2018 as part of Swachhata AbhiyanStudents were given small projects like canteen inspection, Swachhata rally andSwachh awareness drive.Canteen Inspection: Canteen inspection of medical college canteen was carried outby students based on the proforma provided by the Department of CommunityMedicine.

Swachhata Rally & Health Awareness near Ganesh Idol VisarjanSwachhata rally was arranged by the students to spreads messages for segregationof household waste, peri-domestic cleanliness to prevent mosquitoes breeding, notto litter and spit on roads and improving public and personal hygiene. Awarenessdrive was arranged at the time of Ganpati idol emersion on 17th September 2018.

Swachhata MarathonSwachhata Marathon was heldfor faculty and students on 2ndOctober 2018. A 10 km, 5km and3Km route was planned.Volunteers were standing on theboth the sides of route withplacards with swachhtamessages. This was to drawattention of general publictowards simple messagesemphasing importance ofcleanliness for maintaininghealth. Dr. Ravi Swami, Dr.Varsha Vaidya and Dr. PradnyaPadalkar were the organizers of the marathon.

Celebration of Swachhata DivasOctober 2, 2018 was celebrated as Swachhata Divas with great enthusiasm in BharatiVidyapeeth (DTU) Medical College. Many students and teachers participated in theSwachhta Marathon arranged in the morning. Swachhata Pledge was the main eventin the afternoon. Dr. Shilpa Narayanan, daughter of Late Padmashri DoctorMhapuskar, was the Chief Guest of this event. Dr. Shilpa Narayanan delivered alecture on ‘Importance of sanitation in rural health’. The event was attended byPrincipal Dr. N. S. Mani, Vice-Principal, Dr. Karmarkar , Dr. Jayashree Gothankar,Head of the Department of Community Medicine and a large number of students,teaching and non-teaching staff. Principal and Vice-Principal gave away prizes tothe winners of Swachhata Marathon and also felicitated all house-keeping staff. ASkit presented by second year students of the Medical College turned out to be themain attraction of this event. Principal Dr. N. S. Mani administered Swachhatapledge to all students, teaching and non-teaching staff.
