V10 & V20 Single Vane PumpVersatilePriority ValveHigh flow, pressure and speedcapabilities enable these pumps tomeet the needs of modern vehiclehydraulic circuits. Optional flowcontrol and priority valve coversoffer even more versatility.The priority valve cover maintainsnearly a constant flow to a primarycircuit and diverts the remainingflow to a secondary circuit. Flowgoing to the secondary circuit isdetermined by pump delivery. Theprimary circuit is protected by anintegral relief valve but an externalrelief valve must be provided for thesecondary circuit.Flow ControlThe flow control cover limits flowto the operating system to thedesired maximum. Excess flowis diverted to tank. On doublepumps, shaft-end pump deliveryis proportional to speed.The flow control cover also includesa relief valve to limit maximum systempressure.A typical application of a flow controlis in a power steering unit where itprovides a constant supply of oil overthe engine’s mid to high speed range.As a result, pressure-induced radialloads are balanced . bearings haveto carry the external load only.PerformanceLow vane tip/ring loading allowshigh pressure operation. Oil RecommendationsThe oil in a hydraulic system serves asthe power transmission medium. It isalso the system’s lubricant and coolant.Selection of the proper oil is arequirement for satisfactory systemperformance and life.The following recommendations willassist in the selection of suitable oils foruse with FluiDyne products. FluiDynedoes not publish a recommendedoil list by brand name or supplier dueto the extremely wide variety of oiltypes on the market.In most cases, use of theserecommendations will lead to selectionof a suitable oil. However, due to thecomplex nature of oil formulation, thevariety of oils available and peculiaritiesof individual hydraulic applications, therewill be rare instances where oil selectedon the basis of these recommendationswill yield unsatisfactory results. FluiDynecannot be responsible for suchexceptions. In this respect, the customeris encouraged to consult his FluiDynerepresentative when selecting an oil.Important Factors In SelectingAn OilAdditives –Hydraulic fluids contain a number ofadditive agents which materially improvevarious characteristics of oil for hydraulicsystems. These additives are selectedto reduce wear, increase chemicalstability, inhibit corrosion and depressthe pour point.Pump performance and reliability aredirectly affected by the antiwear additiveformulation contained in the oil. Oilsproviding a high level of antiwearprotection are recommended foroptimum performance and long life.Viscosity –Viscosity is the measure of fluidity. Theoil selected must have proper viscosityto maintain an adequate lubricating filmat system operating temperature.In addition to dynamic lubricatingproperties, oil must have sufficient bodyto provide an adequate sealing effectbetween working parts of pumps,valves, cylinders and motors, but notenough to cause pump cavitation orsluggish valve action.FluiDyne Fluid PowerOptimum operating viscosity of the oilshould be between 16 cSt (80 SUS) and40 cSt (180 SUS).“Viscosity index” reflects the wayviscosity changes with temperature; thesmaller the viscosity change, the higherthe viscosity index. The viscosity indexof hydraulic system oil should not beless than 90. Multiple viscosity oils, suchas SAE 10W30, incorporate additives toimprove viscosity index (polymerthickened).
