Now insert the 30 amp fuse into the holder. As the power wire isconnected the module’s LED will blink once.On cars with airbags, you may notice bright yellowtubes or harnesses underneath the steering columnarea. DO NOT tamper with these wires in any way,to prevent personal injury and/or damage to the airbag system.Note: Failure to properly install the fuse holder and 30 amp fuseto the pink wire voids all product warranties.Ignition Key Diagram for Steps 4-7The vehicle’s wires are found comingoff of the key switch. Remove thepanel under the steering column toaccess these wires.Battery gases are explosive. Do not smoke while working nearthe car’s battery.Note: Some installers connect a battery charger to the vehicle’sbattery during installation. This is fine, but it must be removedbefore running the vehicle under the Remote Starter control.4. Blue Wire (14 AWG) - Ignition 1When working the wires through the car’s firewall, besure to protect them from sharp metal edges andfrom hot surfaces on the engine.Connect the BLUE wire to the ignition 1 wire of your vehicle. Thiswire will measure 12V on the test meter in the “run” and “start”position, and is off (ground) in the “lock/off” and “accessory”position.INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS5. Green (14 AWG) - Ignition 2Connect the GREEN wire to the second IGN2 wire (if applicable)of your vehicle. This wire will power the heater/air conditioner(in most cars). This wire will measure 12V on the test meter inthe “run” position only.1. Before You StartTake the time to read through the whole installation manual.Always leave one window ope to avoid locking your keys in yourcar.6. White Wire (14 AWG) - AccessoryConnect the WHITE wire to the accessory wire which is 12V inthe “run” and “accessory” position, but off (ground) in the “start”and “off” positions. The Installation Information section of our web site www.designtechintl.com is available 24 hours/day to provide you with up to datevehicle wiring information for your particular vehicle if needed.7. Yellow (14 AWG) - StarterIMPORTANT: After having read the entire manual, start the installation by putting the yellow WARNING STICKER in the enginecompartment. Choose a surface that is clean and readily visible when the hood is open.Connect the YELLOW wire to the starter wire. This wire will measure 12V on the test meter in the “start” position only.Note: Nissan vehicles have two starter wires. Connect bothstarter wires to the YELLOW wire.WARNINGThis car is equipped with a remote control starting device.Disable before working on car!AVERTISSEMENTControl Harnesses(All wires are the smaller 18 AWG size)Ce véhicule est équipé d’un systéme de démarrage a distance. Mettez-lehors fonction avant d’eflectuer toute opération d’entretien ou de réparation!POWER & IGNITION HARNESS8. Purple Wire - Hood Pin Switch - Control HarnessThe Remote Starter module will be installed under the dash onceall wiring has been completed. Do not mount the module at thistime! You will need to check the diagnostic light (LED) as theinstallation progresses. Locate (or drill) a hole in the firewall torun the PURPLE, GREEN, and YELLOW wires of the Control Harness and the PINK wire of the Power harness through into theengine compartment. The remaining short wires stay in the passenger area. Leave about a foot of the wire harness under thedash for ease of working and visual access to the diagnosticlight. The hood pin switch MUST be installedwith the Remote Starter. It preventsoperation of the Remote Starter whenthe hood is open and is used to initialize the unit. Connect the PURPLEwire to the hood pin switch using thered spade connector.Note:If you already have a hoodpin switch which is being used by acar alarm system, you may share theHow to share a hood pinswitch with an alarmwiring -- but be sure to diode isolateeach wire going to the hood pinswitch with the bands of diodes pointing towards the pin switchas shown at right.Note: Always connect the Pink and Black wires before connecting any of the other wires.)2. Black Wire (16 AWG) - GroundConnect the BLACK wire to a very good, clean chassis ground inthe driver’s kick panel area. Use the small ring terminal if needed. The metal bracing around or beneath the dash board is notadequate.9. Orange Wire - Brake Shut-off - Control HarnessConnect the ORANGE wire to the brake wire which receives 12V when the brake pedal is depressed. This wire must beconnected. It arms a critical safety feature which disables theRemote Starter when the brake pedal is depressed.3. Pink Wire (12 AWG) - Power ( 12V)Connect the ring terminal at the end of the short PINK wire tothe 12 volt terminal of the battery. Run the long pink wirethrough the firewall of your vehicle. Join the remaining ends ofthe power wire together by soldering them. Tape with electrical tape to leave no exposed wire. Alternatively, you may wishto use a yellow butt terminal, but we recommend soldering.2Note: In some cars, the ignition must be in the “on” position totest the power in the brake wire.Note: If the IGN1 & IGN2 wires come on whenever the brake isdepressed, the hood is open and the control switch of Step 14 isOn, this just means you need to initialize the unit in Step 15.

10. Yellow Wire - Headlights/Parking Lights - Control Harness16. Trying the Unit OutConnect the YELLOW wire which is optional, if you want to activate the low beam headlights or parking lights. After theRemote Starter has started the car, the lights will remain on untilthe brake pedal is pressed, ignition switch is turned on, vehicleis put into gear or 10 minutes has passed. This is a relay 12Voutput. Connect the YELLOW wire to the wire that powers theHeadlights or Parking Lights for this feature.WARNING: Be prepared to apply the brake during this testing.A. Close the hood, fully apply the emergeny brake.B.Place the vehicle in ParkC. Make sure the toggle switch is On-- if you turn it on, the redLED will flash once.11. White/Black Wire - IGN 3 - Control HarnessD. Press the button on the transmitter. The WHITE/BLACK wire which is optional, is a 250 mA transistorground output that acts just like the IGN1 or IGN2 relay outputs(active in the “run” and “crank” positions). This wire is a negative transistor output and MUST be set up to power a relay (notincluded). It can be used to power the third ignition wire at theignition key (necessary for vehicles such as: Lincoln Continental,Town Car, and Grand Marquis).E.12. Brown/White - Alarm Disable - Control HarnessThe car should start and continue to run for ten minutes. Please make sure that the engine shuts down if the car istaken out of park, the hood is opened, the brake is pressedor the transmitter button is pushed again. If the car does notstart see Special Cases section.17. Green Wire - Tach Input - Control HarnessThe Brown/White wire is used as a factory alarm disable wire. The Brown/White wire provides a ground pulse when the vehicle is remotely started. On most vehicles, you can connect upthe Brown/White wire directly to the alarm/disarm wire, which isusually located in the drivers kick panel. (This is a 250 mA TransisterOutput). The Remote Starter has two ways of monitoring the car duringthe starting process. Both ways will ensure a clean, accuratestart. Read about both methods before deciding which one touse. Normally you should try the “No TachTM” method first.“No TachTM” StartingThis starting method does not require the connection of theGREEN tach wire. This method will start the car by reading thecar’s voltage before attempting to start, and then looks for avoltage increase when the alternator kicks in. This feature automatically takes into account voltage, temperature, and the timesince the vehicle was last run. The “No-TachTM” starting is presetat the factory and you can skip step 17A if you would like to useit. Note that if the vehicle is hard to start, set option #3 (step 20)for “extended crank.”13. Blue - Horn - Single Small Blue WireThis Blue wire can also signal the horn to honk (or siren to chirp)once each time the AutoCommand starts the vehicle. This is a250 mA transistor ground output which MUST drive a relay. Thisrelay diagram can be found in the How to Use a Relay section.14. Plug-In On/Off SwitchTachometer sensingIf the vehicle is generally hard starting (requiring a cranking timeof more than 1 second) you will get more accurate starting withthe tachometer sensing starting method. This method starts thecar by reading the engine speed (tach) information from a wireunder the hood. If you choose tachometer sensing, connectthe GREEN (18 awg) wire to the car’s tach wire under the hood(normally the negative side of the coil or tach output of coilpack). After you have connected the GREEN wire, you need toteach the Remote Starter the vehicle’s tach rate at idle. Proceed to step 17A.Note: You must have first completed Step 15.Plug the ON/OFF control switch into the module just to the rightof the power wires. Use a 1/4” drill-bit for the mounting hole.Note: Mount the control switch in the dash so that it is easilyaccessible and so that the “ON” position is facing upward. Makesure there is enough clearance behind the mounted switch forthe wire connections. Connection of this switch is mandatory.15. Initializing the Remote StarterBefore the car will start for the first time, you must initialize Remote Starter.17A. Tach Rate LearningIf the dash lights will come on (the Remote Starter powers up theignition wires) when the brake is depressed and the hood is openwith the control switch on, the unit is not initialized. FOLLOW STEPSA THROUGH F.Note: Only use if the tachometer sensing method is chosen.A. Connect the GREEN wire to the car’s tach wire under thehood.B. Turn the On/Off control switch to the “OFF” position. Wait 5seconds for the flashing of the red LED to stop.C. Push the White “option” button once and you will see thered LED flash. Now push the middle button on the transmitter for a second until you see the red LED flash again. Youare now in TACH mode. (If the LED flashed twice -- simplypush the transmitter button again until you get only oneflash).D. Wait 5 seconds for the red LED to flash 3 times.E. Turn the On/Off control switch back to the “ON” positionF. Start the car and let it get to a normal idle. Do not press onthe gas pedal.G. Push the red “code” button on the module for a second.H. Watch the red LED. It will turn on (solidly) after 3 or 4 seconds, indicating that the idle rate has been learned.I. Watch the LED stay on steady as the vehicle is running andgoes off as you rev the rpms above twice the idle rate. TheA.B.Turn the Control Switch on.Open the hood. Press and hold the brake pedal. Note:The dash lights will come on if the unit is not initialized.C. While depressing the brake (with the engine off and thehood open) turn the ignition key to the “RUN” (not “start”)position. (The engine is not started)D. Put the car in drive from the “PARK” position.E. Put the car back in “PARK” and release the brake.F. Turn the key off and remove key.Note: Confirm initialization by turning the ON/OFF control switch“OFF” and then “ON”. The red LED on the Remote Starter module will flash once immediately as the switch is flipped from the“OFF” to the “ON” position.See the purple colored Trouble Shooting Sheet if the vehicle doesnot initialize.3

J.Option 1No-TachTach ModeSets the starting method. The factory setting uses “No-Tach”starting. If you wish to use the tach to start, follow the instructions in 17A.LED must go out when you rev it above twice the idle rateto confirm correct tach learning.Turn the key to the “Lock/Off” position.18. The AntennaOption 210 min. Run TimeIs for the choice of run times.Feed the antenna around the dash and up the inside of theright or left windshield post and over the top of the windshield.Use the 2 enclosed antenna clips to mount the last clear eightinches behind the rear view mirror two inches below the metalof the car on the windshield. Clean the windshield with thealcohol pad provided for maximum adhesion. Use the 2 doublestick foam tape pieces to mount the antenna clips. The betterexposed the clear tube section of the antenna is the better therange performance. Now plug the end of the antenna into theRemote Starter module. In some vehicles you will get betterrange performance if the antenna is pointing vertically downward from the top of the windshield.Note: The wiring section of the installation is now complete. Besure to cap all unused wires so as to prevent short circuits, andmount the module securely under the dash. When tying upand mounting the wires, be sure to avoid any moving parts(steering column, pedals) and sharp edges.Option 3Normal CrankExtended CrankWill add 50% more crank time to starting.Option 4Normal CrankSuper CrankAdds 100% more crank time. This is necessary on many dieseland hard to start vehicles. Options #3 and #4 can be addedtogether for even more cranking time.Option 5Normal Voltage Metering Ignore Voltage MeteringIs used in the “No-Tach” starting method for hard to start vehicles or vehicles with weak batteries and poor charging systems.Option 6The Remote Starter contains a built in diagnostic routine thatwill indicate why the unit turned off the car the last time thatthe unit was used.Option 8NormalDaytime Running LightsThis option will turn the headlights on about 10 seconds after itsees the key in the ignition position — and turn if off when thekey is removed from the ignition. You must hook up the LightWire of Step 10.To activate the diagnostic mode for why it turned off, simplyturn the On/Off control switch to the “off” position. In a fewseconds, the red LED on the module will flash 1 to 12 times toidentify the problem. See the chart below for an explanation ofthe flashes:2 flashes3 flashes4 flashes5 flashes6 flashes12 flashesIf you want the factory setting, DO NOTHING and skip this section. If you want to change one of the features, TURN THE ON/OFF CONTROL SWITCH TO THE “OFF” POSITION. Wait for the redLED to stop flashing, then continue with the following procedures:Microprocessor has reset and the unit is now readyto try again. This could also mean that one of thetransistor outputs is shorting and will require a relay.Unit turned off because Brake or Hood was activated. Check that you have correct Brake Wireand/or that the hood pin switch is depressed whenhood is closed. No Tach or Stalled. Review Step 17.Received another remote input from the transmitterTransmission was shifted into gear. See the PurpleTroubleshooting SheetLow battery voltage, or may be missing an ignitionwire which powers up the alternatorThe Control Switch was turned off. Check controlswitch wire connections.20. Setting Program Features:The Remote Starter unit has special features available. You willnot need to use these special features in most situations. Thefactory settings will operate most vehicles. You must turn theOn/Off control switch to the “OFF” position to program any features. Note that when turning off this control switch, the red LEDwill flash a few times, giving the diagnostic code described inSection 18.
