11Standard crown. The positions described beloware valid in most cases. Anydeviations will be mentioned forthe relevant type of movement.Oris standard crowns are highprecision components. They areequipped with seals to preventany water penetration. About halfof Oris watches are equipped withthis kind of standard crown.0Crown positions. Pos. 0Crown locked, forscrew-down crownsand for crowns withOris Quick LocksystemThe crown is in position 1 andcan be operated immediately, asdescribed in the following chapters.2 0Screw-down crown. Pos. 1Winding position2 0 Pos. 2Date and day ofthe week setting2 0 Pos. 3Setting the time2None of the following operationsmust be performed in water.Crown with Oris Quick Locksystem (QLC).BA few Oris watches, especiallythe divers’ watches, are equippedwith a screw-down crown. Beforeyou can operate a crown of thiskind, it must first be unscrewed.Turn the crown anti-clockwise untilit is released from its thread. Now the crown is in position 1 andcan be operated as described inthe following chapters. After the setting, the crown mustbe tightened back down bypressing it against the case whileturning it clockwise.Check from time to time to ensurethat the crown is properly screweddown. The watch is only water-resistantto its specified depth if the crownhas been screwed down.rThe Quick Lock Crown (QLC)developed by Oris is simpler torelease than the screw-downcrown because it has a bayonetfastening instead of a thread.Press the crown gently against thecase and turn it slightly anti-clockwise until the crown releases. Now the crown is in position 1 andcan be operated as described inthe following chapters. After the setting, the crown mustbe relocked by pressing it againstthe case and, at the same timewhile turning it slightly clockwiseuntil it locks in position. The watch is only water-resistantto its specified depth if the crownhas been locked.Screw-down pusher.?Some Oris models, especiallydiving watches, have screw-downpushers as well as screw-downcrowns.Turn the crown which enclosesthe pusher anti-clockwise until youencounter resistance. Now the pusher can be operated,as described in the followingchapters. After the setting, press the crowngently against the case and turnit clockwise until you encounterresistance. The watch is only water-resistantto its specified depth if the pusherhas been screwed down.pushers must never be operatedunderwater.Automatic windingmovement.aAn Oris watch that has startedand is worn daily for about12 hours, does not need manualwinding. Instead, arm movementscause the red rotor to rotate, thereby tightening the barrelspring. Even if you take off yourwatch at night, it continues to run.It only stops working if it is notworn for approx. 40 hours. If an automatic winding watchstops, it must be restarted asfollows:Release the screw-down crown orQLC crown (if fitted) as per theinstructions in chapter 1.With the crown in position 1, rotateit clockwise through 12 turns(it can also be turned forwardsand backwards).Carry out the settings, asdescribed below.Lock the screw-down crown orQLC crown (if fitted) as per theinstructions in chapter 1.On the crystal case-back of certainOris automatic winding watches, you can see how the red rotor, thehallmark of Oris watches, rotatesand winds the movement.Manual winding movement.AOn mechanical Oris watches withmanual winding, the barrel springis wound by hand. The powerreserve of a fully wound watch isapproximately 42 hours.Release the screw-down crownor QLC crown (if fitted) as per theinstructions in chapter 1.Turn the crown clockwise inposition 1. It can also be turnedforwards and backwards.Stop as soon as you encounterresistance. The barrel spring is nowfully wound. If more force is applied afterthe spring is fully wound, thereis a risk of the end of the springbreaking. In such cases, thebarrel needs to be replaced atthe watch owner’s expense.Wind the watch once a day.Lock the screw-down crown orQLC crown (if fitted) as per theinstructions in chapter 1.EnglishStarting Oris watches.
