INSTALLING PANORAMA2.1 Panorama ConnectionsPanorama requires connection to mains power and toone or more digital or analogue audio sources.Panorama offers a total of five audio inputs – threedigital and two analogue. The inputs are numbered al opticalDigital opticalDigital RCA-phonoAnalogue RCA-phonoAnalogue RCA-phonoFigure 1 illustrates Panorama connected in a typical homeentertainment system including a television and a DVDplayer. In this system the connection scheme is as follows: The analogue audio output from the TV isconnected to Panorama’s Input 5.With this connection scheme the majority of audioprogramme formats can be reproduced through selectionof the appropriate Panorama input. For example:Input 1: Digital, 5.1 channel, DVD soundtracks.Input 2: Digital audio from, or routed through, the TV.Input 5: Analogue stereo audio (analogue TV audio orDolby Pro Logic surround encoded audio for example).Note: Some televisions pass 5.1 channel digital audiofrom their HDMI inputs to their digital audio outputs (theremainder down-mix 5.1 signals to stereo). In thesecases, the direct connection between the DVD playerand Panorama’s Input 1 will not be necessary. Confirmwith the manufacturer of your TV that it is capable of5.1 channel digital audio output from external inputsbefore dispensing with the direct DVD to Panoramaconnection.Note: When using Panorama it may be necessary tomute the television’s internal speakers. Some televisionscreens will display a permanent on-screen symbolwhen mute is selected. If this is the case the televisionvolume can alternatively be reduced to zero using itsremote handset volume controls.Note: For further information on connecting Panoramato a wide variety of audio sources a PanoramaConnection Guide is available for download from theB&W web site. www.bowers-wilkins.comUse the digital optical cables supplied with Panorama toconnect the DVD player digital audio output and the TVdigital audio output to Input 1 and Input 2 respectively. The caps must be removed from the ends of the digitaloptical cables before it is used. Inputs 3 to 5 may beused to connect a variety of audio sources such asanalogue TV, a CD player, an Apple Airport Express or apersonal audio device. The digital audio output from the DVD player isconnected to Panorama’s Input 1.Note: If your DVD player does not have an optical digitalaudio output, use the phono coaxial digital cablesupplied and connect to Panorama Input 3. The digital audio output from the TV is connectedto Panorama’s Input 2.Panorama’s connection sockets are located on theunderside beneath a removable cover. To remove the

cover, stand Panorama upright and gently push thecover downward and away. Figure 2 illustrates removalof the cover. Once the cover is removed, Panoramamust be turned upside-down to gain access to theconnection sockets. Ensure that the surface on whichPanorama is then placed will not damage its topsurface finish. In addition to the mains and signal input sockets, asubwoofer output socket and a service socket are alsopresent. Use of the subwoofer socket is covered below. The service socket is not intended for consumer use.Figures 3a and 3b illustrates and identifies Panoramaconnection sockets.Panorama incorporates a cable-dressing channel thatenables the input and subwoofer output cables to becollected together and to exit the unit from the samelocation adjacent to the mains power cable. To use thecable-dressing channel, collect the cables together andinsert them in the open channel. Rotate the lever toclose the channel and retain the cables. Figure 4illustrates use of the cable-dressing channel.2.2 Connecting a SubwooferAn active subwoofer can be connected to Panorama. Asubwoofer can enhance the Panorama experience byproviding extra impact on movie soundtracks andextending bass response on stereo music programme. The subwoofer is connected via Panorama’s subwooferoutput socket. Remove the connection cover asdescribed above and identify the subwoofer outputsocket. Connect one end of an RCA phono cable to thesocket and the other end of the cable to thesubwoofer’s input socket.Ensure that the subwoofer is switched on. As Panoramahandles the appropriate low-pass filtering on itssubwoofer output, the subwoofer’s internal low passfilter should be set to its maximum or switched off.Initially set the subwoofer’s volume level control tobetween half and three-quarters maximum then finecontrol its volume via the Panorama subwoofer levelsetup menu (See Paragraph 4.1).2.3 Panorama Location and MountingThe home theatre surround performance achieved byPanorama will be optimized if it is located in the roomapproximately symmetrically between two soundreflective walls. Figure 5 illustrates two possible roomlayouts. Panorama can be either mounted on tablecentrally in front of the home theater TV or be wallmounted using the supplied bracket centrally above orbelow the TV.they can be found in the Support section of the B&Wweb site at www.bowers-wilkins.co.uk.3.1 Front Panel ControlsPanorama front panel controls functions consist of thefollowing:G input: Press to switch on Panorama and then pressto select each input in turn.
