MEDIAMedia Relations DepartmentRob Butcher - Director of Media RelationsRob Butcher was named to his position on January 6, 1997. He is in his 21st seasonin professional baseball, his 13th with the Reds. In December 2006, Butcher receivedMajor League Baseball’s Robert O. Fishel Award for public relations excellence. In1988 he began his front office career as an intern with the Class AAA ColumbusClippers and worked there 5 seasons before he was named assistant director ofmedia relations for the New York Yankees in March 1993. In June 1993, he waspromoted to New York’s director of media relations and held that position for 3seasons until December 21, 1995. On behalf of Major League Baseball, Butcher hasworked 11 All-Star Games (1994, 1995, 1999, 2001-08) and 11 World Series (1995,1997, 2000-08). In March 2006 and March 2009 he served as MLB’s press liaisonfor Team USA during the first 2 World Baseball Classics. Butcher graduated in 1981from Wilmington (OH) High School and in 1985 from the University of Dayton with a degree in broadcastingand journalism. In August 1989, he received his master’s degree in sport management from The Ohio StateUniversity. In September 2001, Rob was inducted into the Clinton County (OH) Sports Hall of Fame. He andhis wife, Dana, live in Park Hills, Kentucky.larry herms - Assistant Director of Media RelationsLarry Herms is in his 12th season with the Reds, his fourth as assistant director ofmedia relations. Press BoxFRONTThe writing and broadcast press box is located on Level 3 of Great American Ball Park. The press box isopen 3 hours and 30 minutes prior to gametime. The press dining room, located on the press box level, isopen 2 hours prior to game time. A delicious buffet dinner is available to credentialed media members at acost of 7.Clubhouse AccessOnly media with approved credentials have access to the clubhouses. The clubhouses are open 3 hoursand 30 minutes prior to the start of each game and close 1 hour prior to the start of each game. Followingthe game, the clubhouses will open no later than 10 minutes after the final out. The home and visiting teamclubhouses are located on Field Level. The Reds’ dugout is located on the first base side, the visitors’ dugouton the third base side. Until batting practice is over, media can access the field through the tunnels adjacentto each clubhouse. After batting practice is over, access to and from the field may be made only through thetunnel on the outfield side of the third base dugout. Members of the media are not permitted in the trainingroom, players’ lounge or equipment areas.A photographer dark room for media outlets affiliated with The Associated Press is available in the Field Leveltunnel, across from the interview room. Interview requests during batting practice must be scheduled through the Reds media relationsdepartment.Media outlets needing use of Reds’ current photographs may contact the Reds creative services departmentat (513) 765-7029 or jrollins@reds.com. At this time, the Reds no longer grant permission for historical imagesprior to the 2000 season. Accredited media members may use Reds photographs for non-endorsement projectsonly. All photographs and/or materials loaned by the Cincinnati Reds must be returned in good condition within30 days. Media outlets not returning photographs and/or materials within 30 days will be subject to a 50 feeper item and will be subject to a 250 fee per item for any photographs and/or materials damaged or lost.Positions for photographers are located on the home plate and outfield sides of each dugout, a position sharedwith television cameras. With the exception of game broadcast cameras, still photographers have priorityover local videographers. MEDIAReds on the AirwavesRadioIn 2009, for the third straight season Hall of Famer Marty Brennaman will bejoined in the Reds on Radio network booth by Thom Brennaman or Jeff Brantley.The Reds on Radio network is one of the largest in professional sports, with 59affiliates in 7 states. The 50,000-watt flagship station is 700 WLW (AM 700) inCincinnati. Twenty spring training games and all 162 regular-season games arebroadcast on 700 WLW Radio.TelevisionFOX Sports Ohio holds the exclusive local cable and telecast rights for CincinnatiReds baseball. FOX Sports Ohio will cablecast 145 games in 2009. GeorgeGrande and Chris Welsh, the longest-running TV duo in club history, will teamup for their 17th season together for play-by-play and color analysis. ThomBrennaman and Jeff Brantley also will spend time in the Reds TV booth.Reds BroadcastersMarty BrennamanReds radio announcer Marty Brennaman received the Ford C. Frick Award on July 23,2000, in ceremonies at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. Theaward is presented each year by the Hall of Fame to a broadcaster “for major contributionsto the game of baseball.” Brennaman, Red Barber (WSAI, 1934-38) and Russ Hodges(WFBE, 1932) are the only Reds announcers ever to receive the Hall of Fame’s prestigiousbroadcasting award. On May 2, 2005 he was inducted into the National Sportscastersand Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in Salisbury, NC. On November 5, 2005he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago. In 1999 he wasinducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. In 2009 he was selected by the AmericanSportscasters Association as one of the Top 50 broadcasters of all time. The 2009 seasonwill be Brennaman’s 45th as a broadcaster, his 36th in Cincinnati. He joined the Redsradio team in 1974 and for 31 seasons (1974-2004) shared the 700 WLW Radio booth with Reds Hall of Famepitcher Joe Nuxhall. Brennaman has been named Ohio Sportscaster of the Year 13 times, most recently in 2006.He won the Virginia Sportscaster of the Year Award 4 times while broadcasting basketball games for the AmericanBasketball Association’s Virginia Squires, baseball games for the New York Mets’ Class AAA affiliate in Norfolkand football games for both Virginia Tech and William & Mary. He also has broadcast games during the NCAA’smen’s basketball tournament, including 15 regional tournaments and 11 Final Fours. Brennaman will broadcastabout 45 games on radio with his son, Thom. Before joiningthe Reds he worked for 9 seasons on Arizona Diamondbacks radio and TV broadcasts.Brennaman joined the D’Backs after 6 seasons with the Chicago Cubs working for bothWGN radio and TV. He was hired by the Cubs after 2 years in Cincinnati broadcastingReds TV games alongside Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench. The Brennamans workedtogether during a Baseball Network televised game in the 1990s. One of the country’s most versatile talents, Thomis part of the NFL and college football broadcast teams for FOX, and in each of the last 3 years he was the leadannouncer for the worldwide telecasts of the college football BCS championship games. He was the play-by-playvoice for that network for 6 Cotton Bowl telecasts from 2001-06 and also has handled University of Cincinnatimen’s basketball local broadcast duties. Brantley spent 14seasons in the Major Leagues and enjoyed some of his best years while pitching for theReds from 1994-1997, when he posted a 2.64 ERA and 88 saves. He still ranks tied forfourth on the club’s all-time saves list. In 1996 he earned the Rolaids Relief Man Awardafter leading the National League with 44 saves. His 44 saves that season remains theReds’ single-season record. Brantley also pitched for the Giants, Cardinals, Phillies andRangers. He was an NL All-Star for San Francisco in 1990 and finished his career with172 saves and a 3.39 ERA in 615 games. Brantley is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he led theBulldogs to a third-place finish at the College World Series. He was a 4-year letterwinner for MSU and was namedfirst-team All-American in 1985. Brantley has been actively involved in several youth baseball groups like GarthBrooks’ “Teammates for Kids” and an inner-city baseball program in Jackson, Mississippi. He and partner Chris Welsh are working together for the17th consecutive season. They are the longest-running TV duo in Reds history. A nativeof New Haven, CT, George has covered Major League Baseball since 1965. Since 1980he has hosted the National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee ceremonies in Cooperstown.George also anchored the first-ever ESPN SportsCenter telecast on September 7, 1979and spent 10 seasons with the all-sports network anchoring that award-winning showand covering the World Series, NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals, Super Bowl, NCAAbasketball tournament, College World Series and major college football games.
