2021-2022 High Achievers Magnet ProgramEligibility and Continuation GuidelinesDeKalb County School District strongly encourages parents to engage intheir child’s learning experiences at home as well as by volunteering inschool activities. Elementary School Program Eligibility: All applicants for the HighAchievers Magnet Program must have a fall 3.0 (or higher) grade pointaverage (GPA) in the core subjects. DeKalb students rising to grades 4 - 6must also earn a 75th percentile (or higher) total reading score, 75thpercentile (or higher) total math score on the baseline M.A.P. assessmenttaken in the school year 2020-2021. All students not enrolled in a DeKalbCounty School District school must also earn a 75th percentile (or higher)total reading score, 75th percentile (or higher) total math score on thebaseline M.A.P. assessment taken in the school year 2020-2021. Elementary School Program Continuation Guidelines: Elementarystudents enrolled in the magnet program for high achievers must maintaina 3.0 (or higher) grade point average (GPA) in the core subjects throughoutthe program each year. Students who do not maintain the academicperformance criteria are placed on probation for one semester. Supportplans will be provided to any student who has a GPA below the academicperformance criteria throughout the probationary period. Parents arerequired to attend all conferences. Students who do not have a 3.0 GPAafter two consecutive grading periods or two semesters, must exit themagnet program and enroll at their home school. If a student does not meetpromotion criteria during any term of the school year, the student willimmediately be withdrawn from the magnet program and returned to thehome school. Lottery Eligibility Sibling Priority Guideline: Only multiple birth siblingsare linked for participation in the random student selection lottery process.Also, both siblings must satisfy the eligibility criteria to be eligible for thepriority. Note: When a magnet program seat placement offer is declined by theapplicant, the student will not be able to apply for placement in a magnetprogram until the next open enrollment. Baseline M.A.P. scores are taken from the first administration of the M.A.P.assessment for the 2020-2021 school year.

Elementary School Program Eligibility: Applicants for Special InterestMagnet Programs (i.e., math, science, performing arts, technology, etc.)must have a fall semester overall numerical average of 80 (3.0 GPA) in thecore subjects. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten student applicants do nothave to meet the eligibility criteria. Elementary School Program Continuation Guidelines: Elementarystudent enrolled in a Special Interest Magnet Program must maintain anoverall numerical average of 80 (3.0 GPA) in the core subjects throughoutthe academic year. Students who do not maintain the academicperformance criteria is placed on probation for one semester. Support planswill be provided for the students who have a GPA below 3.0 throughout theprobationary period. Parents are required to attend all conferences.Students who do not maintain an overall numerical average of 80 (3.0 GPA)at the end of two consecutive grading periods or two semesters, must exitthe magnet program and enroll at their home school. If a student does notmeet promotion criteria during any term of the school year, the student willimmediately be withdrawn from the magnet program and returned to thehome school. Seniors must alsocomplete a Science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)project specific to their major program of study. Students must participatein an academic competition and participate in student organizations and/orclubs. Parents must complete 10 parental involvement service hours eachschool year. Students who do not maintain the academic performancecriteria are placed on probation for one semester. Parents are required toattend all conferences. Support plans will be provided for any student whodoes not meet the academic performance criteria. Students who do notmaintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, a minimum
