Existing Aluminum SlidingGlass Door to be replacedwith new Flush Fin SlidingGlass Door.*Prior to the removal of existingdoor, check the measurements of thereplacement door to ensure the doorwill fit. Check for damage on the newdoor. This will prevent damage to theexisting door in case a re-order isnecessary.*Ensure that all appropriate safetyequipment is worn during the removaland installation process.2. Remove vent frame fromthe Aluminum door bylowering the wheels usingthe adjustment screws ateach end of the vent panelat the bottom (turning thescrew to the right will raisethe vent and to the left willlower the vent)1

Field Installation Instructions forVinyl Sliding Glass DoorsFlush Fin3. Lift up on the vent frameand swing the bottom out.Once the vent frame isremoved take off any sillcaps. (if any)4. Remove any screws thatare securing the fixedsash in place. Remove thefixed sash by sliding over,lifting up, and swinging thebottom out.2

Use a sawto cut through the sill atcenter. Then remove the sillso the Flush Fin door cansit flush on the sub floor.6. Once the screws are cut,you may cut the sill at thecenter point in order toremove the sill as shown.Do not remove the head orjambs of the original frame.Removing the frame heador jambs may damage theweather resistant barrier.3

If you can not cut thescrews, then you may cutthe sill of the pre-existingdoor at the jambs andremove the sill so the FlushFin door sill will set directlyon the sub floor.8. Check for readiness,obstructions and safetyobstacles that may interferewith the installation of thedoor. Remove debris thatwill obstruct your path wayduring the transportationof the product. Test fitthe Flush Fin retro door toensure it is the correct sizeand can be installed level,plumb, and square. Removethe nail fin if not needed.Check the reveals as well.4

Field Installation Instructions forVinyl Sliding Glass DoorsFlush Fin9. Check the sill for levelusing the longest level thatwill fit in the opening. Shimor flatten down any humpsin the sub floor. Shims areto be made of high impactplastic capable of carryingspecified compressiveloads. The Horseshoetype is adequate for thisapplication.10. Using sand paper, scuffthe pre-existing frame toensure sealant can adhereproperly.5

Field Installation Instructions forVinyl Sliding Glass DoorsFlush Fin11. Apply 2 - 3/8” diametercontinuous beads ofsealant ( polyurethanesealant ) on the sub floorand continue 6” up thejambs. If shims are neededinsure they are imbeddedin the sealant.Insert filler boards the length of thejamb frame between the flanges. Thiswill allow proper back support toscrew into the new frame.If required, install SillPan at this point.12. Apply a 3/8” diametercontinuous bead of sealant( polyurethane sealant )to original perimeter framewhere it will come intocontact with the Flush Finof the new door. This isconsidered the primaryseal.6

Field Installation Instructions forVinyl Sliding Glass DoorsFlush Fin13. Apply a 3/8” diametercontinuous bead ofsealant(polyurethane sealant)near the back side of theoutside edge of the FlushFin. This is considereda secondary seal.14. From the exterior liftthe Flush Fin door andset in to the opening.7

Check the jambs forplumb using the tallestlevel that will fit in theopening. Be sure todouble check for squareby cross measuring thedoor frame. Shim doorframe accordingly.8

Usenon-corrosive screws longenough to screw throughboth the Flush Fin doorand the pre-existing doorframe head and jambs,where you have placedfiller blocks. Anchor into the surrounding wallframing at least 1 1/4”.Pre-drilling holes forfasteners may be helpful.(Do not place screwsthrough the sill as theymay cause damage to theweep system) Installationscrews shall not be closerthan 3 inches and nomore than 10 inches fromthe corners of the doorand should be spaced amaximum of 16 inchesapart on center (do notover tighten the screwsas they may warp or bendthe Flush Fin door frame)shims are recommendedat each fastener.9

Field Installation Instructions forVinyl Sliding Glass DoorsFlush Fin18. Install the supplied handleon the vent frame.19. Install the vent frameinto the perimeter frameby placing the top infirst and then sliding thebottom in with the doorin the open position.10

Field Installation Instructions forVinyl Sliding Glass DoorsFlush Fin20. Remove the adjustmenthole plugs on the bottominterior face of the ventframe and adjust the wheelson the vent frame. Lift upon the vent frame to takethe weight off the rollerswhen adjusting to preventstripping. Turn to the rightto rise and the left to lower.Reveals on both sides ofthe vent frame should bestraight. Reinstall the plugs.21. The strike platecomes preset from themanufacture with ascrew behind the silvercover to allow for minoradjustments. Once the ventframe and strike are linedup and lockable, properlyset the strike plate inplace using non-corrosivescrews long enough tofasten in to the framing.(1 1/4” penetration)Place a shim at the lockingpoint with each fastener.11

Be sure to check theFill any Gaps between theexisting frame and thenew frame with backerrod or use appropriateinsulation material.operation of the door.Check to see thatall steps have beencompleted and aredone properly. TrimInterior as needed.Special Notes:Apply a polyurethaneSealant as part of thesecondary seal to the edgeof the exterior flush finand the stucco or siding.This is to continue aroundthe entire frame.*Verify that the permanentAAMA label is still in place.*Install Screen Door if purchasedwith door. ( see Screen DoorInstallation Instructions ).*Walk the surrounding area andensure all trash is picked upand disposed of properly.Check that the door sill is totally sealed to subfloor. If installed on concrete, use a back beadof sealant (interior back of sill) if necessary.Be sure front edge of sill is supported with theappropriate material (ie: stucco, trim, etc ).*Educate customer on proper operation.12
