In the spring of 2020,something veryunusual happened.

Children around the worldstopped going to school.

They stopped playingin the parks. They stoppedgoing to sports games, and movie theaters, andbirthday parties.

In the spring of 2020, itseemed like kids everywherewere doing nothing. But they weren’tdoing nothing.

They were doingsomething veryimportant. They werehelping to fight a brandnew disease.

Covid-19 appeared forthe first time just afew months before.

Most people werenot harmed bythe virus. But it made somepeople very sick.Because it was new, doctorsdid not have a cure.So people everywhere began to help.

Healthcareworkers helpedsick peoplerecover.Researchershelped todiscover newmedicines.Leaders helpedby makingnew plans.Reportershelpedshare thenews.

Truck drivershelped bytransportingsupplies.Farmers and grocershelped by makingsure there was healthyfood to eat.Garbage collectorshelped by keepingcommunities clean.

When they went to the market, shoppers helped by wearing masksand staying six feet apart.

And kids helped, too, just by staying at home.It may seem like stayingat home was doing nothing. But this was animportant job.

Covid-19 is spread by tiny droplets in the air.

When more peopleget together, moredroplets fill the air. When fewer peopleget together, fewerdroplets fill the air. With fewer droplets in the air, fewer people may get sick.

Soon, researchers will find a cure.

Until they do,everyone is helping.

Everyone, includingkids like you.
