A Keystone College studentworks on a masterpiece.140thANNIVER SA RYpresident’s messageDear Friends of Keystone College:Dr. Edward G. Boehm, Jr.,PresidentAs we look to the past in order to appreciate the present and plan for the future, we can only marvelat how far we’ve come since the founding of Keystone College 140 years ago.In 1868, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania issued a charter to create Keystone Academy, establishing what would become the only high school between Scranton, Pa. and Binghamton, N.Y.Classes began one year later in the local Factoryville Baptist Church. In 1870, ground was broken forMain Hall, later named Harris Hall after John Harris, Keystone’s first president. Two years later, the firstdiploma was awarded to Edith Brundage.Keystone Academy became Scranton-Keystone Junior College in 1934, and then, 10 years later, thename was changed to Keystone Junior College. The first associate degree was awarded to A. LlewellynBaer in 1936. In 1995, we became Keystone College, receiving approval to offer baccalaureate degreesthree years later, which ushered in a new era. In May of 2000, we were proud to present the College’s firstbaccalaureate degree, a bachelor of science in criminal justice, to Stacy Davis Bell.Today, Harris Hall still sits proudly on a hill overlooking our beautiful campus as Keystone Collegehas grown in many ways since those early days. Our campus, widely regarded as one of the most picturesque in Northeastern Pennsylvania, consists of 37 buildings, including seven original Victorian homes,on 275 wooded acres. We have continued to expand during the eight years since awarding our first baccalaureate degree. We added 20 baccalaureate programs to complement our associate degree programs. InMay of 2008, we conferred 204 baccalaureate degrees, 46 associate degrees, and 14 certificates. But numbers alone do not tell the true story of Keystone College. The greatness of Keystone rests inour people -- faculty, staff, trustees, and alumni serving our students. Together, we have worked to buildKeystone into all that is has become. More importantly, with your help, we will strive to continue oursuccess in the days, months, and years which lie ahead. We invite you to be a part of this exciting journey and ask you to join us in celebrating the 140thanniversary of your Keystone.Sincerely,Edward G. Boehm, Jr.President

McLaughlinDear Friends and Supporters of Keystone College:Autumn is a beautiful and exciting time at Keystone College. Our campus is awash in fall splendor as once-green leaves turn intobeautiful shades of rust, orange, and yellow. The morning chill iswarmed by streaks of afternoon sun, eventually yielding to thebrilliant glow of a late-afternoon sunset.Posed against this magnificent mural are the faces of Keystonestudents as they hurry to class, prepare for exams, and take part innumerous campus clubs, sports, and activities. One cannot help butfeel their energy and optimism as they live for today and prepare fortomorrow.Your ongoing support of Keystone College helps make theirdreams possible. By contributing restricted and unrestricted gifts toour annual fund, scholarships, and planned giving programs, youenable Keystone to continue its mission of providing the bestpossible education at the most affordable cost.As you know, Keystone College is celebrating its 140thanniversary this year. Much has changed on our campus since theday when the doors of Harris Hall opened for the first time. There ismore to operating an institution of higher learning than classroomsand textbooks. Costs for technology, facilities, salaries, and programsrise dramatically each year and tuition alone cannot fully fund theseincreases.Through your contributions, we can ensure this wonderfulplace we call Keystone College will flourish for the next 140 yearsand beyond.Thank you so much for you continued support of KeystoneCollege.Mr. William H.
