As I sit and reflect on another busy and successful year, I am surrounded by constant remindersof how fantastic our school community is and the tremendous team work that goes in to makingWales High School such a special place to be.As our newest Year 6 cohort come to the end of their transition week, we are able to reflect onthe year and prepare to say goodbye to several colleagues who are moving on to new andexciting opportunities in a variety of fantastic places; relocating as far as Bath, Birmingham,Spain, Canada and South Africa! As a school, we have continued to go from strength to strength with our work to supportemotional health and wellbeing of the whole school community. We have had some superb andinnovative ideas from our student body and the work of our new Sixth Form Mental HealthAmbassadors is exceptional. We have recently been awarded with the Gold Award for meetingthe recognised accreditation in both our Anti-Bullying work and the Healthy School’s vision andpractice. This is something we are really proud of and I look forward to seeing how this importantaspect of education continues to grow in success.Moving forward into next year, one of our key aims for all students is a clear focus aroundaspiration and ambition. As a school it is our intention to support students on their journey andoffer guidance and direction towards their life goals. The Y11 and Y13 students who have justcompleted their examinations are now waiting anxiously and excitedly for their results. They willhave hopes and they certainly have ambition to achieve great things. Their positive attitude, resilience and hard work throughout the examination period was commendable and I amconfident that their results will mirror this and help them reach their future dreams. Finally I want to thank the full staff body on behalf of our students. Once again our superb staffteam have strived unreservedly for the very best education for every student and they have goneabove and beyond what is expected to provide an unlimited list of extracurricular and excitingopportunities. Every member of staff has the same goal in their mind and that is to provide thevery best for every student. On a daily basis I feel so very lucky to be part of this team andwanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge this publically. All that remains is for me to wish you a relaxing summer break that is filled with sun, smiles andprecious memories with family and friends.Pepe Di’IasioHeadteacher

The Real Investment CompetitionKieron Street & Luke Robins, who are inthe Y12 Economics group, haveparticipated in the Real InvestmentCompetitionwhichinvolvedtheinvestment of 2000 on the StockExchange starting at the end of October. It was agreed that we should be fairlycautious given the uncertainty over Brexitand choose reasonably ‘safe’ shares. Wechose Compass, Costain, Diageo,Easy-Jet, Glaxo Smith-Kline and Relx. They were all Blue Chip shares webacked to make a steady gain whilstkeeping 30% in cash for emergencies. From the 2000 initially invested, it hasgrown to 2107 a return of about 5% overthe period which at the time of going topress put Wales HS 11th out of 43 schools participating nationally. We sold up on Wednesday19th June so we are waiting for the final outcome. It’s been a useful learning curve looking atcompany data and making judgements about where to put the money. A big thank you to theschool for supporting the project!Activities Day – 12 JulyStudents in Years 7, 8 and 9 were able to take part invarious trips on our annual Activities Day. There were19 venues to choose from – Chester Zoo, FlamingoLand, Alton Towers, Go Ape, Doncaster Dome, Whitbyand the National Videogame Museum to name a few.
