This has aided development of valves in intermediatepressure classes as well as specialized flow-control equipment for thepower industry.L&T Valves established the reliability ofits design after comprehensive prototypetrials in simulated supercritical powerplant conditions at its in-house testlab. The test process and results werewitnessed by an independent agency.The integrity of seat and pressureboundary of test valves (20” class 3100WCC and 6” class 3100 C12A) wereestablished at ambient condition, atelevated temperature and pressure as wellas at re-ambient condition.6

Features & BenefitsGate, Globe & Check Valves - ASME Class 600 to 4100L&T high pressure range of gate, globe & check valves conform to ASMEB16.34. The valves are of pressure-seal design and have innovative featuresthat enhance performance and plant safety. The valves can be suppliedwith IBR certification.Cast Yoke ConstructionGate and globe valves are of cast-yokeconstruction, where the operator is connectedto the body with a robust cast yoke. Single piececast yoke is precisely machined and located onthe body neck and serves to withstand severeoperating loads without compromising thealignment of the stem and operator duringactive performancePressure-seal Body-bonnet DesignIn this design, line pressure is used to create ahigh integrity body-bonnet seal - the higher thepressure, the better the sealing. The bonnet isheld in place by a split-retainer and pre-loadedagainst it using the bonnet bolts and retainerplate. This arrangement provides tight seal atlow pressures also. Knockout holes are providedin the body for disassembly of segmentalretaining ring.Welded Seat RingIn gate and check valves, seat rings areseal-welded to the body. This eliminates leakagepath between seat ring and body as well asaccidental loosening due to temperaturefluctuations or vibrations.Port DesignFor gate, globe and check valves, the standardproduct offering is as per MSS SP-144 Style A.Adequate wall thickness and enhanced flowparameters are the characteristics of this design.Gate valves are offered in reduced-bore designalso.Hard-faced TrimDisc, seats and back-seat (for gate and globevalves) are hard-faced with Stellite 6 orequivalent. As a standard, the valves are offeredwith a hard-facing thickness of 1.6 mm toensure long and trouble-free service life.8

Gate ValvesParallel-slide DiscThe disc mechanism comprises two independent discs, a disc carrier andcoil spring. The disc faces are parallel to each other and the springs keepthe discs loaded against the body seats. Sealing occurs when line pressureforces the disc against the downstream seat.Parallel-slide discs are position-seated and operating torques areconsiderably lower in this design. This design also eliminates chances ofdisc-jamming due to thermal binding.Globe ValvesInsitu SeatHigh pressure globe valves have integral seats that are machined and hardfaced insitu to improve wear resistance.Body-guided DiscThe discs of L&T globe valves are guided during opening/ closing tominimise effects of side thrust and this prevents seat damage.Disc OptionsTapered Disc (Quick-opening Disc)Tapered Disc design in offered as a standard. In this design, when the valveis opened, close-to-maximum discharge is obtained very quickly. The bellows conform to MSS SP 117 and can beoffered in stainless steel, Inconel or Hastelloy.Reheater Isolating DeviceReheater Isolating Device (RID) is used to isolate reheater lines duringhydrostatic tests. The device has a disc that can be inserted from the topbetween hard-faced seat rings to effect sealing.
