20PracticeAdditional InformationAll students in the guitar studies program are required to practice daily. Sinceeveryone learns at a different rate, the suggested practice time is between one andfive hours daily. Performance majors should set aside three to five hours a day tomake adequate progress in their program.ListeningAll students should download the free program Spotify (it is free!). In addition topracticing, guitar students should set aside time each day to listen. Listening will berequired for lessons, guitar ensemble, jazz combos, and improvisation course.Technology and GearStudents are encouraged to build a rig during their study at MSUM. This will varyfrom student to student. One typical example is an amplifier and pedal board. Thepedalboard should include the following: Volume Pedal Wah Wah Tuner Distortion/Overdrive Delay Chorus Vibrato/Leslie Booster CompressorStudents may opt for a multi-effects pedal. Since there are many quality pedals onthe market, students should consult with their private instructor in order todetermine the best pedal for their needs.Guitar Studies 2012
