In 1971, the official name was changed to Society for RangeManagement (SRM). The objectives of the organization were as follows: (1) To fosteradvancement in the science and art of grazing land management, (2) To promote progressin the conservation and greatest sustained use of forage and soil resources, (3) Tostimulate discussion and understanding of scientific and practical range and pastureproblems, (4) To provide a medium for the exchange of ideas and facts among societymembers and with allied technologists, and (5) To encourage professional improvementof its members.The first officers were:PresidentVice PresidentSecretary-TreasurerJoseph F. II.NEBRASKA SECTION ORGANIZATION-SOCIETY FOR RANGEMANAGEMENTThe Nebraska Section was organized at a meeting held at Fort Robinson, Nebraska,October 9, 1952. The meeting was chaired by Lorenz F. Bredemeier. A motion waspassed to petition the ASRM for a charter. Dr. E. J. Dyksterhius, also a member ofthe national Board of Directors, assisted with the organization of the Section.CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS: (1952)Article 1. NAME. "The name of the organization shall be the Nebraska Section of theAmerican Society of Range Management."Article 2. OBJECTIVES. "The objectives shall be those of the parent society with emphasison promoting greater application, interest and knowledge concerning management of grazinglands in the State of Nebraska."Article 3. MEMBERSHIP. "Those persons shall be eligible for membership who aremembers of the American Society of Range Management, and who reside or work inNebraska."Article 4. OFFICERS.Section 1. The officers of the Section shall consist of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman anda Secretary-Treasurer.Section 2. The governing body shall be known as the Section Council, consisting ofcurrent officers and the immediate past Chairman.Section 3. Tenure of office shall be one calendar year, or the remainder thereof.Officers shall not succeed themselves.Section 4. Unexpired vacancies shall be filled by unanimous action of the SectionCouncil.Article 5. NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS.Section 1. Officers shall be elected by letter ballot supplied to all members by theSecretary as described herein.Section 2. The Chairman shall appoint a nominations committee of (3) three memberson or before August 1 of each year. The nominations committee shall prepare a list oftwo candidates for each elective office. This list shall be transmitted to the Secretaryon or before September 15.4

Section 3. The Secretary shall send each member a typed, mimeographed or printedballot containing a list of all candidates on or before October 1. Essential instructionswill accompany the ballot. Marked ballots shall be returned to the Secretary on orbefore October 30. On or before November 1, the ballots shall be counted by theSecretary and two witnesses, preferably members of the Society. Candidates receivinga simple majority of votes shall be declared elected. A tie vote shall be resolved by theCouncil. All members will be notified of the election results by November 15.Officers shall take office not later than January 1, following their election.Article 6. MEETINGS. Section Council meetings shall be at times and places determined bythe Council. There shall be at least one general business meeting each year. This meetingmay be most conveniently held during any one of the State-wide conferences where rangeworkers are gathered for any purpose. Much business and inter-change of ideas will bethrough correspondence.Article 7. AMENDMENTS. Amendments to the Constitution may be submitted at anybusiness meeting. Amendments shall be referred to the entire membership by letter ballotand shall be adopted by majority vote of ballots returned.BY-LAWSArticle 1. MANAGEMENT OF THE SECTIONSection 1. The Chairman shall have general supervision of the affairs of the Section.He shall appoint necessary committees and preside at Section meetings.Section 2. Committees shall be accountable to the Council under general supervisionof the Chairman.Section 3. President Stoddart requested that Mr. Bredemeiermeet with the Audit Committee, composed of Dr. E. J. Dyksterhius and W. T. White, toreview and study the Nebraska petition and to report upon it on January 23, 1953 at theASRM Board of Directors meeting in Portland, Oregon. On that date, Dr. Dyksterhius6

recommended approval of the Constitution and By-laws submitted by the Nebraska Section.He then moved for acceptance of the Nebraska petition and issuance of a Charter. Themotion was seconded by Dr. Vernon A. Young and the motion was passed.III.NEBRASKA SECTION-ARTICLES OF INCORPORATIONThe Certificate of Incorporation of the Nebraska Section - SRM was signed by AllenJ. Beerman, Secretary of State, State of Nebraska, as a non-profit corporation onOctober 29, 1973. They are recorded on film roll 73, page 1092, MiscellaneousIncorporation, Nebraska State Capitol, Lincoln, Nebraska.The Articles of Incorporation of the Nebraska Section - SRM, were filed November7, 1973, with Walter L. Wadlow, Hooker County Clerk, Mullen, Nebraska. They arerecorded in Book 6, page 371. Incorporators for the Section were Don Cox and JohnSautter.
