This lesson can be used as astudent advising tool that provides an interactive activity with your students. Together, you and your students,can discuss all the benefits they will have in enrolling in a Bridges Academy or participating in Bridges activities.Objective/Rationale:1. Students will be able to identify the key elements represented by the Bridges Academies afterwatching the Bridges video, taking the Bridges quiz, and having a class discussion.2. Students will be able to understand the fundamentals of the Bridges Program after completing the“What is Bridges?” worksheet activity.Time Frame: 50 minutesMaterials: Bridges Video: What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up? (2:17 minutes) Bridges Academy handout: What is Bridges?(download & copy the 2-page handout from your high school Bridges web page) Bridges Quiz & Bridges Answer Key, pages 3-4, What is Bridges? worksheet, page 5Directions/Procedure:1. Introduce the Bridges Video What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up? (preview ahead of time)Let students know that the video will provide them with an overview of what the BridgesAcademies Program is all about. Inform students know that there will be a quiz following the video,so they will need to pay attention to the key elements introduced and discussed in the video.2. Distribute the Bridges Quiz. Once students have completed the quiz, allow students to eithercorrect their own or swap with a neighbor to correct. Go around the classroom soliciting answers.Verify or correct their answers and add in your own commentary as needed. Collect correctedquizzes and grade accordingly.3. Next, provide students with a copy of your own high school version of “What is Bridges?” which is a2-page handout (download from your high school Bridges web page) and the accompanyingworksheet on page 5. Have students work in groups of 2-3. Give a time limit of 15 minutes forgroups to complete the worksheet.4. Go over the worksheet in class, soliciting answers from the groups. Use this opportunity toembellish, by adding your knowledge of the Academy and what benefits the students have incompleting the Academy (share past students’ experiences, etc.). Collect worksheets and evaluatefor student’s understanding of the Academy. Use this information to review with students the nextday in class and to clarify/adjust their understanding as needed.5/21/18
