4.6 A GUIDE TO PERCENTAGE UNIFORMS MARKSFREQUENTLY ASKEDQUESTIONSThis factsheet is a guide for schools in countrieswhere percentage uniform marks appear onstatements of results for Cambridge IGCSE,Cambridge O Level and CambridgeInternational AS & A Level. We provide the percentage uniform mark aswell as the grade for a syllabus. The percentageuniform mark is not the total mark achieved forthe syllabus. It is a point on a common scale forall syllabuses to show whether the candidate’sperformance is close to the top, middle orbottom of the grade. For example, a student who gets the minimummark necessary for a Grade A* obtains apercentage uniform mark of 90. A studentwho gets a mark halfway between the GradeD threshold and Grade C threshold achieves apercentage uniform mark of 55.We do not provide a percentage uniformmark when the candidate’s result is Ungraded,No Result, Pending or To Be Issued. The tablebelow shows the percentage uniformmark range for each grade:GradePercentageuniform 59E40–49F (Cambridge IGCSE only)30–39G (Cambridge IGCSE only)20–29† In the case of the Cambridge International AS Levelqualification, where there is no Grade ‘a*’, the percentageuniform mark range for Grade ‘a’ is 80–100.’16A GUIDE TO A* - G AND 9-1 GRADESAre percentage uniform marks the sameas the Uniform Mark Scale (UMS) usedby UK exam boards? Our percentageuniform mark scale uses the sameapproach as UMS. However the UMS isnot always shown as marks out of 100,whereas our percentage uniform marksare always out of 100.Cambridge IGCSE is graded A* - G, CambridgeO level is graded A* - E. Both grade sets arewell established, widely used systems thatuniversities, parents and schools know to trust. In August 2017, some GCSE results in Englandwill be reported on a different, 9-1 gradingscale. On this scale, 9 is the top grade.Do percentage uniform marks appearon Cambridge certificates? No. They arepublished on the statement of results tosupplement the grade issued at syllabuslevel.UK GCSEs and Cambridge IGCSEs have beenreported on an A* - G grading scale for almost30 years and offer a good level of differentiation between students’ performance. Thegrading scale is understood and accepted byuniversities and employers around the world.SAMPLE STATEMENT OF RESULTSThe percentage uniform mark is stated atsyllabus level only. It is not the same as theactual total mark that the candidate achieveson the syllabus. This is be
