Rights and responsibilitiesquote: „Volunteers receive no salary, not because their work wouldbe worthless, but because their contribution is invaluable.“Arrangements for Volunteers.A normal workweek is about 30 hours. Every volunteer has the rightto get two consecutive days off a week, as well as two additional holidays per month. In case the volunteer gets sick, he/she has to informhis/her project leader or mentor as soon as possible. Every volunteerhas the right to attend a German language course. If the volunteer isnative or a very advanced German speaker, he/she has the possibilityto attend a different language course. The language course can vary though and will be organised by theCO or HO. An additional language course cannot be covered.7Your mentorIt is important for every volunteer to have a mentor. The mentor helps to integrate in local society, gives a helpful handin Youthpass writing and is there for you during your EVS. You canaddress your mentor with personal and project related issues. The mentor will be provided to every volunteer from his or her Hostorganisation. And we hope that each volunteer gets along with his mentor just fine,BUT! – If there are any problems or any misunderstanding betweenthe volunteer and his/her mentor the volunteer can choose anothermentor by talking to his Host organisation or coordination organisation. The mentor should not be your direct boss in the organisation,he/she should be someone that is connected to the project, but takesno active part in it. (Nevertheless in most projects your mentor willprobably be one of your colleagues!)Info-KitsAs you might have heard from your Sending Organization there aredocuments called Info-Kits in which all the rights and responsabilities of a Hosting-, a Sending- and a Coordinating Organization areofficially stated – and so are the duties and the rights of the volunteer.TrainingsYou can download them from the Homepage of the Executive Agency– Youth in Action e/action2 en.phpIn general there are 4 trainingsfirst – in your homecountry: some countries may not provide thistraining.second – On arrival trainingthird – Mid term trainig)fourth – last training in your homecountry: also depends on countryVienna/InnsbruckThere are 2 trainings in Austria for each volunteer if your projectduration is more that 6 months. (On arrival training) and (Mid termtraining).

Why are trainings so important? There are several reasons why each volunteer should attend trainingsduring his EVS project, especially the On arrival trainig and the Midterm training – because these trainings are the main guides andhelpers during your project time. You can clear out any problem and misunderstanding that you mighthave in your project.Meet other volunteers in Austria. This is a really important statement!See other places in Austria.Compare your project to other volunteer projects and experiences, learn that all of the other volunteers face the same challenges andups & downs as you do.Learn about intercultural differences.Have a great time! The On arrival training is taking part in Vienna, so that the volunteersfrom Salzburg have a great possibility to get to know the AustrianCapital city. The Mid term training is taking part in the wonderful city of Innsbruck, a city that amazes anyone by its beauty and great nature. As previous volunteers we truly recomend to you:do not miss any of the offered trainings. They are great!8

Some tips for your EVSDuring your EVS you might face homesickness or cultural shock. We havetherefore asked our last EVS generationfor tips that might help you to cope withthem.9Live now:Try to act from day to day. Do not think about things that might betomorrow or that have been yesterday. Try to make the best of youractual situation! Enjoy the time with the people around you (eventhough you might not know them yet). Explore the place where youare living right now. That will surely make you feel more “at home”.Search for challenges:Go to concerts, workshops, the theater or to other events to getan overview about the cultural scene and the people of a country.Dare to step in front of the door and don‘t stay too long alone inyour room, even though that might seem easier in the beginning. Giveyourself a push to learn new things and to collect experiences.Homesickness: Starting something new might be hard inthe beginning. Everything is new, you do not know the environment, your family and friends are far away and you have to manage a lot ofthings on your own now. Don‘t let that bring you down! You will findnew friends, you will get to know your new “home” and you will getused to your new situation. Of course it is important to stay in contact with your family and friends, but sometimes it might be recommendable that you do not search for contact too often as this mightmake you wanna go back home to the people and places you know.New language:Languages are connecting people. If you do your EVS in a countrywith a language you do not know yet, it is still important to search forcontact with people. Many people in Europe speak English! You willalso attend a language course that will help you to learn the new language. Dare to try what you have learned! Usually it is not necessaryto speak a language at a high level to master most situations and totalk with people.

Cultural shock:As you are surely used to your home and to your usual environment,it might be a challenge to get used to a totally new environmentduring your EVS. That phenomenon is called “cultural shock” andnearly all people face it when they are moving to another country. To cope with cultural shock it is important to see everything relaxed. After some time you will get used to the new food, the people, thearchitecture or even the weather. On the other hand it might alsohappen that you face a cultural shock when you move to your homecountry again, because you became so used to your new environmentduring your EVS.Free time:It is totally up to you how you would like to spend your free timeand it is your decision what you would like to do.You could go to asports club, attend a dancing course or some workshops, go to thecinema or to concerts. At all of these activities you can get to knowpeople and maybe also new friends. If you would like to have moreinformation what is going on in Salzburg you can as well contact theyouth information center, they are happy to provide you tips. Addressis Anton-Neumayr-Platz 3 in the city center of Salzburg.Friends:Try to get in contact with people, speak with them, spend time withthem. Try to have fun but do also dare to speak about your sorrowsand fears. Friends are important in your daily life but especially whenyou are staying abroad. During an EVS it happens quite often that youfind friends for a lifetime.Private sphere:Some people like spending more time on their own, some less. Allowyourself to spend some time on your own if that feels good for youand respect the decision of other people to spend some time alonefrom time to time.Routines:Either drinking a coffee every morning or going for a walk everyevening. Try to find routines that will give your daily life some kind ofnormality or stability. Routines and doing things that you are used todo will give you a feeling of stability and might help you to feel morerelaxed. You can also try to keep some old routines that might giveyou a feeling of being “at home”.Do something good for you:Spoil yourself with little things, like buying or collecting flowers foryourself, borrow an interesting book, listen to music that inspires you, write a diary, make a beauty program or massage just for yourself. That‘s your date with yourself. To spoil yourself means filling yourenergy tank, find time to breathe and to relax, to reflect and gain newenergy for your challenging daily life.Be open for new things:New things can give us an uncomfortable feeling or even shock us. Tryto leave prejudices or expectations behind you, then you will be openfor new experiences without an inner blockade. Make yourself realizethat you can learn something new in any situation.10

d. Case study, penetrating the Norwegian market Norway has the highest rate of EVs per capita in the world, with EVs accounting for 22.2% of new car registrations in 2015 (Jolly). The vast demand for EVs is a result of Norwegian's rising concern with regards to environmental issues and very favourable government incentives to purchase EVs.
