ACADEMIC POLICIES FORTHE UNDERGRADUATE LEVELA.Admission to the UniversityA.1. Admission PolicyAs a Seventh-day Adventist boardinginstitution, AUP practices “open admission.”It accepts all students regardless of religiousaffiliation, race, tribe, or age. Incoming studentsmust signify their willingness to uphold thephilosophy, mission, vision, and objectives of theuniversity. They must also abide with the rulesand regulations of the university in particular andthe country in general.A.2. RegistrationAll students seeking admission from AUPmay secure the application form online, or fromthe Records and Admissions Office (RAO) andsubmit the necessary entrance credentialsto the said office. All freshmen as well astransfer students must take the entrance testadministered by the Guidance Office. Studentsare officially registered upon receipt of theregistration card stamped by the Records andAdmissions Office and the Accounting Office. Nostudent is allowed to attend class unless he/sheis officially enrolled.A.5. Late RegistrationA student who fails to register during thestipulated time must have permission from theRecords and Admissions Office to register. Alate registration fee will be charged. In the Work Education(WorkEd) program, the mental aspect of educationis connected to practical training in the necessaryskills of daily life. Students enrolled in PhysicalEducation and practicum/OJT/internship courseshave equivalent learning experiences to WorkEdand are therefore exempted from taking WorkEdunits in the semesters they are enrolled insuch. Physical Education teachers and StudentInternship Coordinators are to ensure that theoutcomes of the WorkEd program are integratedinto their courses.2.Students not covered by exemption are requiredto enroll in a Work Education course (1 unit)in two full semesters. They are to engage inat least three hours of work per week, for atotal of 40 hours per semester, including fourhours of orientation. No intensive schedule or“crash course” is allowed. Work Scholars whoare enrolled for Work Education may apply forequivalency, but the supervisor of the workscholar has to sign an agreement that he/sheAUP Manual of Academic Policies Undergraduate Level 2019 Edition 15
will assess the student also based on WorkEdgrading criteria.3.The student enrolled in WorkEd may select thework he or she will engage in. Students are toenroll in at least a semester in Service Work andmay opt to undertake a semester in CommunityExtension Work. The types of work the studentmay select are:a.b.4.To stimulate the workplacea.b.c.16 Service work: Custodial, food service,grounds, maintenance, office work, staff help(monitors, lab assistants, library assistants,receptionists and clerks), farm work, storeclerks, and other types of work that areprimarily involve physical labor rather thanmental.Community Extension Service projects, ofwhich 75% of the required hours are done inactual field/community work.The student selects and applies for a specificjob/work.The work supervisor should prepare a jobdescription for the three hour per week job.In addition to the life skills the students shallbe also assessed in their competency in thetasks specified in the job description.A predetermined work schedule has topublished before the student enrolls,preferably following class times, and not justAUP Manual of Academic Policies Undergraduate Level 2019 Edition
d.5.the student accumulating hours anytime he/she reports for work.The student enrolls within two weeks afterstart of classes at the Work Education officefor a specific job and with a specific worktime. The student signs a contract uponenrollment in the course, which specifies thetasks to be done, the work hours, and the jobperformance evaluation before any work isstarted. A student who fails to report for workwithin two weeks after signing-up for the jobshall automatically receive a failing grade forthe course.The Work Education Coordinator shall have thefollowing responsibilities in implementing theprogram.a.b.Oversee the operation of the Work EducationProgram, developing and maintainingprocedures, forms, and records.Organize the WorkEd program for students. Approve with the different heads ofthe University entities their requestsfor WorkEd students, with thecorresponding job description, aschedule of work time slots, and thenumber of students needed for each ofthe time slots.Advertising and processing the work/jobs available to those enrolled inWorkEd.AUP Manual of Academic Policies Undergraduate Level 2019 Edition 17
c.d.e.f.Process enrollment of students to theWorkEd course.Conduct orientation for WorkEd students andalso for WorkEd work supervisorsCoordinate with the work supervisors toensure that the learning experience of eachstudent enrolled meet the outcomes andare appropriately assessed based on theWorkEd program outcomes. This wouldinvolve regular visitation of the different workplaces.Orient the work supervisors on the gradingcriteria for the Work Ed program to ensurethat there is a relatively uniform manner ofevaluation. 6.The Work Supervisor shall be responsible toa.b.c.d.e.Submit job description that match the3-hours per week shift the student willreport to their work unit. In addition, makea schedule of the time the student(s) areexpected for work, times in in which thesupervisor can oversee WorkEd students.Orient the WorkEd student(s) to their work,especially in essential issues such asworkplace safety, data privacy protection,etc.Prepare a Work Log that will be kept in thecustody of the unit/department. The Logshould not only record the time on work duty,but the kind of work done. The supervisoris to report to the WorkEd Coordinator if thestudent enrolled has not reported for workwithin two weeks at the start of the semesteror has the total absence of ten hours fromwork.Regularly observe the student’s performanceat work and give the needed encouragementand feedback.
