Regulatory InformationSafety InformationINTENDED USE: An air conduction hearinginstrument is a wearable sound-amplifyingdevice intended to compensate for impairedhearing. Hearing instruments are availablein multiple gain/output levels appropriateto treat hearing losses ranging frommild-to-profound.Your hearing aids are designed to operatein public and residential environments andare designed to comply with internationalElectromagnetic Compatibility emissionsand immunity standards for medical devices. However, it is still possible that you mayexperience interference caused by powerline disturbances, airport metal detectors, electromagnetic fields from other medicaldevices, radio signals and electrostaticdischarges. If you use other medical devices orwear implantable medical devices suchas defibrillators or pacemakers and are42Regulatory Informationconcerned that your hearing instrumentsmight cause interference with your medicaldevice, please contact your physician or themanufacturer of your medical device forinformation about the risk of disturbance.Your hearing instruments should not be wornduring an MRI procedure or in a hyperbaricchamber.Your hearing instruments are classified as aType B applied part under the IEC 60601-1medical device standard.Your hearing instruments are not fully certifiedto operate in explosive atmospheres suchas may be found in coal mines or certainchemical factories.Your hearing instruments should be storedwithin the temperature and humidity rangesof -40 C (-40 F) to 60 C (140 F) and 10%95% relative humidity.Your hearing instruments are designed tooperate beyond the range of temperatures43

Regulatory InformationRegulatory Informationcomfortable to you, from very cold up to50 C (122 F).We are required by regulations to providethe following warnings:Use on AircraftsWARNING: Use of wireless hearing aidsThe wireless capabilities that may befeatured in your hearing instruments can beused on an aircraft as hearing instrumentsare exempt from the rules applied to otherpersonal electronic devices on an aircraft.Your smartphone device should be put intoAirplane Mode or turned off.WARNING: Use of accessories, componentsInternational UseYour hearing instruments are approved tooperate at a radio frequency that is specificto your country or region and might notbe approved for use outside your countryor region. Be aware that operation duringinternational travel may cause interferenceto other electronic instruments, orother electronic instruments may causeinterference to your hearing instruments.44directly next to other electronic equipmentshould be avoided because it could resultin improper performance. If such use isnecessary, note as to whether your hearingaids and the other equipment are operatingnormally.or replacement parts other than thoseprovided by the manufacturer of yourhearing aids could result in increasedelectromagnetic emissions and decreasedelectromagnetic immunity and could resultin degradation of performance.WARNING: If Portable Radio Frequencycommunications equipment is used closerthan 30 cm (12 inches) from your hearingaid, degradation of the performance of yourhearing aid could result. If this occurs, moveaway from the communications equipment.45

Regulatory InformationRequired Hearing Aid InformationThe following additional information is provided incompliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA) regulations:WARNING TO HEARING AID DISPENSERS.A hearing aid dispenser should advise a prospectivehearing aid user to consult promptly with a licensedphysician (preferably an ear specialist) before dispensinga hearing aid if the hearing aid dispenser determinesthrough inquiry, actual observation, or review of anyother available information concerning the prospectiveuser, that the prospective user has any of the followingconditions:i. Visible congenital or traumatic deformity of the ear.ii. History of active drainage from the ear within theprevious 90 days.iii. History of sudden or rapidly progressive hearing losswithin the previous 90 days.iv. Acute or chronic dizziness.v. Unilateral hearing loss of sudden or recent onsetwithin the previous 90 days.vi. Audiometric air-bone gap equal to or greater than15 decibels at 500 Hertz (Hz), 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz.vii. Visible evidence of significant cerumen accumulationor a foreign body in the ear canal.viii. Pain or discomfort in the ear.46Regulatory InformationIMPORTANT NOTICE FORPROSPECTIVE HEARING AID USERS.Good health practice requires that a person with ahearing loss have a medical evaluation by a licensedphysician (preferably a physician who specializes indiseases of the ear) before purchasing a hearing aid.Licensed physicians who specialize in diseases of theear are often referred to as otolaryngologists, otologistsor otorhinolaryngologists. The purpose of the medicalevaluation is to assure that all medically treatableconditions which may affect hearing are identified andtreated before the hearing aid is purchased.Following the medical evaluation, the physician willgive you a written statement affirming that your hearingloss has been medically evaluated and that you may beconsidered a candidate for a hearing aid. The physicianwill refer you to an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser,as appropriate, for a hearing aid evaluation. The audiologist or hearing aid dispenser will conduct ahearing aid evaluation to assess your ability to hear withand without a hearing aid. The hearing aid evaluationwill enable the audiologist or dispenser to select and fit ahearing aid to your individual needs. If you have reservations about your ability to adapt toamplification, you should inquire about the availability ofa trial-rental or purchase-option program. Many hearingaid dispensers now offer programs that permit you towear a hearing aid for a period of time for a nominal feeafter which you may decide if you want to purchase thehearing aid.47

Regulatory InformationFederal law restricts the sale of hearing aids to thoseindividuals who have obtained a medical evaluation froma licensed physician. Federal law permits a fully informedadult to sign a waiver statement declining the medicalevaluation for religious or personal beliefs that precludeconsultation with a physician. The exercise of such awaiver is not in your best health interest and its use isstrongly discouraged.A hearing aid will not restore normal hearing and will notprevent or improve a hearing impairment resulting fromorganic conditions. Use of a hearing aid is only part ofhearing habilitation and may need to be supplementedby auditory training and instruction in lip reading. In mostcases, infrequent use of a hearing aid does not permit auser to attain full benefit from it.Special care should be exercised in selecting and fittinga hearing aid whose maximum sound pressure levelexceeds 132 decibels because there may be risk inimpairing the remaining hearing of the hearing aid user.CHILDREN WITH HEARING LOSS.In addition to seeing a physician for a medical evaluation,a child with a hearing loss should be directed to anaudiologist for evaluation and rehabilitation since hearingloss may cause problems in language developmentand the educational and social growth of a child. Anaudiologist is qualified by training and experience toassist in the evaluation and rehabilitation of a child witha hearing loss.48Regulatory InformationRequired Multiflex Tinnitus Informationfor Hearing ProfessionalsINDICATIONS FOR USEThe Multiflex Tinnitus Technology is a tool to generatesounds to be used in a Tinnitus Management Programto relieve patients suffering from tinnitus.
