Supplier Quality Manager – Job Description(Job Code and Level: QSQ005)Definition:Responsible for ensuring that the supply chain companies develop theirprocess in line with the design intent of the customer and verify their systemsto ensure they are compliant with the end customer’s needs. This includes onsite supply chain company verification.Will have people and budgetary management responsibility.Overall Purpose of the Role:Responsible for delivering all aspects of the Supplier Operations QualityAssurance function on an on-going basis in line with the Quality ManagementSystem and Quality Policy to ensure that the business’ products and servicesare fit for purpose and meet customer expectations. Responsible for ensuringthat suppliers continue to develop and implement best practice thatemphasise defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide forcontinuous improvements and continue to meet quality standards required tominimise quality costs and maximise customer satisfaction whilst ensuringthat procedures and processes are adhered to. Responsible for providingleadership, outstanding people skills and management to a team of SupplierQuality Engineers.Key Responsibilities:Strategy and Development: Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice qualityvision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improveoperational performance Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review andcommunicate the impact on Supplier Quality activitiesGeneral and Task Management: Lead supplier development strategy, designing the metrics for the functionand supplier performance

Carry out supplier validation audits, with supplier support and supplieradvanced product quality planning (APQP).Work with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team todefine process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier processcapability is effective to meet product and process requirementsSupport Purchasing with the supplier approval process by assessingmanufacturing/technology capabilities and Health, Safety andEnvironmental risksSupport new product launches to ensure suppliers are capable ofdelivering to the required quality standardsManage the root cause analysis and corrective actions process of supplierquality issuesPerform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification ofcorrective actions of supplier quality issuesReview and evaluate supplier quality data to identify process improvementopportunities within the supply chainWhere appropriate work with the supplier directly, create corrective actionplans to address process failuresReview supplier manufacturing processes, collaborate with suppliers onprocess improvement and value enhancement opportunitiesPromote the use of customer preferred techniques for continuousimprovement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing),Measurement System Analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode and EffectsAnalysis)Manage the development and refinement of Design and Process FMEA’s(Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)Review documentation of inspection results across all areas. Inappropriate functional areas, this refers to supporting inspection and teststatus requirements defined by regulations, engineering productspecifications or Control Plans, PPAP approval or product warrantsubmissionMonitor and report on supplier product quality and performanceunderstanding any commercial issues and impactsManage the Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Manage customer PPM (Parts per Million), supplier PPM, supplier problemsolving on time, cost recovery and supplier warranty indicatorsLead quality audits for suppliersEnsure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality ManagementSystem (TS16949/ISO9001)Support regular inspection meetings with representatives from appropriatedepartments to establish an action plan for improving build qualityStay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply anddemand of needed products and materials and advise others of anyimpactKeep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineeringtrends that concern product qualityConduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs andfuture trends

Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply anddemand of needed products and materials and advise others of anyimpactUndertake personal continuous training and developmentPerform root cause analysis and resolve problemsEnsure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safetyand environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety andwellbeing of staff and visitorsPeople Management: Manage, coach and develop a high performing Supplier Quality team thatmeets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, addedvalue and continuous improvements Provide leadership, direction, management and development to theSupplier Engineering team Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoingperformance of direct reports Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managingholiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisal,attendance, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximise efficientproductivity Motivate and coach the team to operational success Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and recordon appropriate systems Consistently promote high standards through personal example and rollout through the team so that each member of the team understands thestandards and behaviours expected of them Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices,performance reviews, risk assessments Communicate KPIs from the strategic annual plan so that each employeeis awareFinancial Budget and Control: Input and hold responsibility for Supplier Quality budgets Responsible for achieving budget and forecast Prepare the annual Supplier Quality budget and forecasts and all CapitalExpenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legalstandards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projectsRelationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and externalstakeholders to ensure optimal performance Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders tofacilitate delivery and compliance with the purchasing strategy Communicate with stakeholders the impact of market change and potentialeffects on engineering design and development. Recommend solutionswithout compromising quality or service while optimising cost
