EXEMPLARS WITH LOCALIZED AUDIO-VISUALS IN ENGLISH 7PHILIPPINE NORMAL UNIVERSITYThe National Center for Teacher EducationThe National Center for Teacher EducationAbstractKeywords: EXEMPLARS, LOCALIZED AUDIO-VISUALS, 5Es INSTRUCTIONALMODEL, VALIDATIONThis study focused on the development and validation of lesson exemplars usinglocalized audio-visual materials in teaching literature for Grade 7 students. The studyutilized the developmental design. Using the 5Es model, the study developed sevenlesson exemplars using localized audio-visual materials from the available local literaturerepresenting the seven genres: lyric poem, fable, myth, folktale, legend, epic and shortstory. These genres encompassed the learning competencies in teaching literature for thefour quarters stipulated in the Learning Package for English 7 K-12 curriculum. Thedeveloped exemplars underwent validation process according to content by five (5)language experts and according to usability by three (3) Grade 7 English teachers and 125Grade 7 students of Agusan del Sur National High School. Results of the validationshowed that the developed lesson exemplars using localized audio-visual materials werevalid in terms of content and usability. It is recommended that teachers use or modifythese localized instructional materials so that students will improve their viewing skillsand competence in literary genres. Since instructional materials nowadays are in highdemand, educators, material developers and other researchers are encouraged to developexemplars or modules integrating localization, contextualization and technology inliterature or in other fields of discipline.iii
