Background4For the Betterment of Mankind.A progressive society addresses its need for bettermentin diferent ways. In such a society, one would indinstitutions for improving the quality of life of the underprivileged through social services in remote areas ofKonkan and also institution to make its citizen a betterhuman beings.would address these interdependent objectives with thesame dexterity. Exactly such organizations were built byShreeVithalrao Joshi. ShreeVithalrao Joshi Charities Trusthas been active in the Dervan area for the last 40 years.heir work so far has been related to running programsfor under-privileged on the following points However very rarely one would ind these objectivesbeing achieved through the same institutions, the reasonbeing their lack of connect as commonly perceived.Improving the daily life of peopleAt Dervan, ShreeVithalrao Joshi Charities Trust havebeen successfully running programms for last 40 yearsto achieve these objectives of the betterment of the lifefor the under-privileged people through social servicesand imparting humanitarian values to the people. hissuccess has been achieved based on the thought espousedby ShreeVithalrao Joshi, the founder of the trust. He hasexpressed his views clearly in an article in Marathi titled“For the benefit of the mankind”. He says humanitarianvalues need to be imbibed by everybody in the society,if society is to achieve peace and prosperity. He furtherelaborates that since the government or ruling powerusually won’t be in a position to impart humanitarianvalues to the large population, the same has to be doneby a dedicated social organization. However with anatural human tendency for material advancementany insistence on the imparting of humanitarian valueswon’t ind resonance till the recipients are well placed intheir daily life. Hence, an organization is needed which Work for all scheme for providing employment to localpopulation. Distribution of free blankets. Subsidized ration during festival time. Free drinking water for area in and around Dervanduring summer. Development of infrastructure at Dervan and nearbyvillages. Creating health awsreness and hygiene in communityand make available modern medical facilities for them. State-of- the-art medical treatment at reasonable ratesfor the masses through B.K.L. Walawalkar Hospital. Create awareness and ofer assistance to commonpeople regarding improved techniques in agriculture, planting. Make available maximum educational facilities topeople in and around Dervan.Making better human beings School with English as the medium of education and emphasis on all-round personality development. State of Art Sports complex having Olympic standards sports facilities like running track, gymnastic hall, shootingrange, swimming pool, football ground to name a few which would help to develop international athletes from India. Programme to eradicate malnutrition among young children and pregnant/ lactating mothers by providing themnutritious elements on a regular basis. Medical College for education, research and training for upliftment of people need from remote rural area of Konkanas education can improve the lives of under-privileged people. he trust thus believes in tailoring the programs to meet the societal needs from time to time in relation to the basicphilosophy elucidated by ShreeVithalrao Joshi.

Walawalkar Hospital, Dervan.he problems of our society are complex. Unfortunately, wehave a large population, which are illiterate, unemployedand poverty stricken. While there has been progressall around, the provision of basic Medical treatment atafordable costs to our masses, still appears to be a distantdream. Nevertheless in this part of our country we haveinitiated our humble efort for awareness, detection andtreatment under one roof.Shri Digambardas Maharaj believed in worshipping GODby serving the poor and needy to the best of one’s ability.Today in this holy place we have a modern hospital, perhapsthe only well equipped hospital on the Mumbai-Goanational highway almost at it’s mid point between Mumbaiand Goa. International C.M.E.7Patients are the real winners!Affordable, Qualitative and credible MedicalTreatment at Walawalkar Hopsital, DervanDr. Netaji PatilA surgical camp by UK doctors and resident doctors wasorganized at B. K.L. Walawalkar Hospital, Dervan from30th January 2016 to 5th February 2016. In this mega camp, total 161 surgeries were conducted out of which 23 wereGeneral surgeries, 20 Plastic surgeries, 23 Uro surgeries,26 orthopedic, 8 ENT, 3 Gynaec and 58 ophthalmicsurgeries. he patients registered were from diferent partsof Maharashtra. his operative camp was a unique campin respect of afordability, qualitative and credible medicaltreatment. A never been heard such type of operative camporganized in any part of Maharashtra or India in last fewdecades. he Reasons behind this statement are multiplefacets of the camp.A notable feature of the Surgery week strategy is itsemphasis on values and principles: key concepts are patientoriented approach, disease oriented treatment, credibility, afrodability and an outcome-oriented approach. In B.K.L. Walawalkar Hospital, you will receive, to theextent you are eligible, prompt and appropriate treatmentfor physical or emotional disorders or disabilities, in theleast restrictive environment necessary for that treatment, free from unnecessary or excessive medication.he patient once registered; receive information aboutthe costs associated with your care, if any, before they aretreated and at every stage of treatment. hus no additionalcosts are borne from patients for unnecessary treatment. One can easily notice that the patient conidence level washigh throughout the camp period. his is because of qualityof service we ofer to the patients during their stay atBKLWH. he patients are treated with dignity, compassionand respect as an individual. heir privacy is totallyprotected and receive care in a safe environment. We seekto honour individual’s personal and religious values.he patient and their relatives were given freedom to knowthe current condition, medicines and medical history. Also, patients ask questions when they don’t understandsomething about their care. Being involved is veryimportant for patient to get the best possible results.he patients themselves were involved in all decisionsabout the care, treatment. he patients were giveninformation about the beneits and risks of treatment andother options. hey can agree to or refuse treatment. hepatient was told what is likely to happen to you if you refusetreatment. Refusing treatment will not afect your rightsto future care, but you take responsibility for the possibleresults to your health. So patient and their relatives hadhomely feelings throughout the treatment and care.Everybody involved in this mission acted with high moralprinciple, adhered to the highest professional standardsand maintained the trust and conidence of all with whomthey engaged through health services or education.British medicos and our hospital consultants workedtogether diligently to serve patients and other beneiciarieslike education/training to students, staf, driven by anearnest belief in a great mission fulilling their individualresponsibilities and organizational responsibilities. It was atrue transfer of skill and techniques within. his was theirconsecutive 11th visit to our hospital and every time weexperience and admire their punctuality and dedicationtowards work. Most of the joint replacements performed were unicondular. Some revision joint replacements were also performedduring this camp. he passionate and dashing orthopedicsteam consisting of specialists, namely Dr. Shankar Kashayp(U.K.), Dr. Sudhir Joshi, Dr. Sunil Nadkarni and Dr.Pavan Kohli performed all the orthopedic surgeries. hepatients are lucky to get the services from such renownedpersonalities from healthcare industry. I would say all theorthopedic patients are really lucky to have such operatingsurgeons for their surgeries and care.he hospital believes in “Treat all those I serve and withwhom I work with dignity and respect. Show respect toearn it”. We strive for the highest quality and continuousimprovement by thoughtful and decisive in leadership, hard work, accountability for actions, willing to admitmistakes, and rigorous in correcting them. Perhaps all these

8qualities and it’s like a divine, spiritual power attracts Britishmedicos to come every year and serve for poor people inthis region.he surgery week was an extraordinary event for all ofus and a ‘model’ for those who wants to participate orFrom bottom of heart --- If any one asks me what is thediference between these surgeries at dervan and surgeriesdone in mega cities like pune and Mumbai, I will say thereare many diferences. Our operation theaters are modularoperation theaters,. All OT’s are of ISO 5 grade and fullyequipped with equipments and instruments. In mega citiesyou can not get guarreentee of what were charges you pay,you may or may not get quality treatment. In mega citiesUpliftment of the poor !organize such type of activities. In order to provide a safetreatment environment for all patients or residents andstaf, a social interaction, religious worship and spiritualsupport is required which one can experience here atB.K.L. Walawalkar Hospital, Dervan.you are not sure that you will get quality treatment, for themoney which you paid. In dervan all patients were verymuch satisied and they get excellent quality of treatmentfor what they paid. hey get exactly what they required. From the options of surgeries exact required surgery forthe patient were performed. It was not the doctor decidedaccording to his skill and excellency in operative skill.
