A Guide to Free Crochet Patterns: 13 Crochet Stitches and our Favorite Free Crochet PatternsTunisian Crochet StitchThe Tunisian crochet stitch is known byseveral names: The Afghan stitch, RailroadKnitting, Hook, knitting, tricot crochet, shepherd’s knitting. Follow this step by steptutorial to learn the famous Tunisiancrochet stitch.Unless you have a traditional Tunisiancrochet hook, which is a very long handledcrochet hook, then Tunisian crochet is reallyonly practical for making smaller items, such as wallets, headbands, belts, and othersmall items which don’t require more thana dozen stitches across the row. That’sbecause all the stitches stay on the hook, and any more than that, they will fall off theback end of the hook! So, to begin Tunisian crochet, first chain asmany stitches as your project requires. So if you had a chain of 13 stitches, you willhave 12 loops on the hook. Now, do not turn the work,* yarn over, andpull through 2 loops. Repeat from * allacross the row, until you have only one loopremaining on the hook. Then work back down the chain, as thoughmaking the first half of a single crochet, butkeeping that loop on the hook as youprogress down the row. At the end of therow, you will have as many loops on yourhook as your chain (minus 1 toaccommodate the turn.)Find hundreds of free crochet patterns, tips, tutorials and videos at http://www.allfreecrochet.com/.29
