As a full-time organizerwith the Student PIRGs’ New VotersProject, your responsibilities would include: Run a non-partisan voter registrationand turnout campaign in a campus community. Campus Organizers recruit andtrain a team of volunteers to help register 18-29-year-olds, collect pledges tovote, and contact all of these youngpeople to turn out the vote on ElectionDay. We are looking for students who are passionate aboutenvironment issues, or who are interested in working for real-world climatesolutions in our home city. Supported by grants from the Ann Johnson Instituteand the College of Arts and Sciences, the course offers rare opportunities forstudents to get involved in local politics, and to play leadership roles inorganizing a national conference and a speaker series. The course satisfies theCarolina Core VESR requirement and could be used toward experientiallearning. The studyof environmental racism and justice examines the creation and consequences ofunequal exposure to environmental risks for these com–munities. This coursewill focus on the emergence of the environmental justice movement in the UnitedStates and its transformation into a global social movement to address politicaland environmental inequality from the mid twentieth century to the present.
