Sowhen Chuck Robertsonand other members ofRobertson Funeral Directors were doing historicalresearch and unearthedthe original funeral records of Colonel CharlesGoodnight and his wife,Mary Ann, they knewthey had found a signifi-cant piece of history. When Robertson calledArmstrong County Museum Director, Amy Lovell, and told her that his family would like to donatethese precious documents, she was ecstatic! On Wednesday, February 15, 2017, Amy Lovell, Chuck Robertson, andRobertson’s wife, Amanda, met at the CharlesGoodnightHistoricalCenter to discuss thebackground of the documents and to make thedonation official. “We arealways very grateful forany donation—especiallyauthentic historical documents and artifacts,” explained Lovell. “Theyhelp us to tell the story ofour history, and whyCharles Goodnight is significant in history.”As the group examined the burial recordstogether, Chuck Robert-son, Funeral Director &CEO of Robertson Funeral Directors, explainedmore about the history ofthe funeral home and howthe records were discovered. “We came across therecords in 2007 when wewere providing documentation for a historicalmarker to be placed at ourClarendon funeral home,”explained Robertson. “MyGranddad always said wehad the Goodnight recordsbut to actually find themand lay hands on themwas amazing.”RobertsonFuneralDirectors has a proud history in the Texas panhandle which dates back to1899. The funeral homewas originally owned andoperated by P.A. Buntin, whose signature can clearly be seen on the Goodnights’ funeral records.Buntin began keepingfuneral records in boundrecord books around1909. Before that time, records were either kepton loose sheets of paperor were non-existent. If itwere not for this progression in record keeping, these funeral recordswould most likely havebeen lost. Instead, theywere tucked away andkept safe for almostSee HISTORICAL RECORDS,pg 4

The Claude News– Friday, February 24, 2017—Page 5Time for some ExerciseBY ANGELA EDWARDSLIFE COACHI hope you now havea fairly firm grasp on howGod has called us to takecare of our physical bodies nutritionally throughHis creation. Let’s moveon to the next importantaspect, exercise. Wait!Don’t move onto the nextarticle! Hear me out first! Most health expertswill agree that a healthyphysical lifestyle is generally 80% nutrition and20% exercise. Exercise isan extremely importantaspect in reducing the riskof developing certain diseases and has been shownto reduce overall levels oftension, elevate and stabilize mood, improve sleep, and improve self-esteem.It is a natural and costeffective way to reducestress and improve yourdaily life.So how does exercise fit within a biblicalview? Did Jesus exercise?Well, no. He didn’t purposely go out and run orlift weights but He livedan active lifestyle. Duringbiblical times, the lifestyle was very mobile.Everyone walked towhere they needed to go,they grew, raised andhunted for their food andmost made their living ascarpenters, farmers orlaborers.Today, our culturehas developed manyamazing advances intechnology and engineering. We have cars, computers, telephones andmachines that make ourdaily life easier. However, these advances havealso lead to a very sedentary lifestyle. We are notas active as people werein Jesus’ time. Our modern advances have createda lifestyle where we sitfor almost everything. Sowhat does that mean forexercise in today’s culture? We must pursue anactive lifestyle!1Thessalonians5:23 MSG says, “mayGod himself, the Godwho makes everythingholy and whole, makeyou holy and whole, putyou together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep youfit for the coming of ourMaster, Jesus Christ.” Itis important that we keepourphysicalbodieshealthy and active alongwith our spiritual bodies,so that we may carry outthe call God has on ourlives! Are you physicallyable to go and do whenGod says “now”?Believe it or not butGod does not like laziness! There are over 100verses in His Word aboutit! Proverbs 19:15 says,“Life collapses on loafers; lazybones go hungry.” According to JohnHopkins Medicine, thousands and thousands ofdeaths result each yeardue to a lack of regularphysical activity[1]. AmI saying you have to become a marathon runner, crossfit champion orbodybuilder? Not necessarily, unless you dothose things in the nameof the Lord and for Hisglory. I am saying thatyou need to chose to bemore active in your dailylife which will honor Godwith your body.If you currently donot live an active life, start small by walking 30minutes a day for 5 days aweek. If you do live asomewhat active life, progress to strength trainingat a gym or try out agroup fitness class. If youhave established an activelifestyle, in what areascould you improve in?All of these activities canglorify God! Listen toChristian music, find averse that you can memorize or pray while working out. You can do it!“So whether you eator drink or whatever youdo,

ered. “We came across the records in 2007 when we were providing documen-tation for a historical marker to be placed at our Clarendon funeral home,” explained Robertson. “My Granddad always said we had the Goodnight records but to actually find them and lay hands on them was amazing.” Robertson Funeral Directors has a proud his-
