It is the responsibility of the installer or user of theequipment to ensure, by consultation with the distribution network operator ifnecessary, that the equipment is connected only to a supply with a short-circuitpower greater than or equal to Sscmin. Refer to the technical data in theTECHNICAL DATA chapter.Make sure that the welding power source is connected to the correct supply voltage and thatit is protected by the correct fuse rating. A protective earth connection must be made inaccordance with regulations.Rating plate with supply connection dataNOTE!The welding power source is designed for connection toa 400 volt system with four conductors.Recommended fuse sizes and minimum cable areaTig 3001i, Tig 3001iwMains voltage400 V 3 50 HzMains cable area mm24G4 mm210 APhase current IeffFuseAnti-surge16 AType C MCB16 ANOTE!The mains cable areas and fuse sizes as shown above are in accordance withSwedish regulations. 5 OPERATION5OPERATIONGeneral safety regulations for handling the equipment can be found in chapter "SAFETY".Read through before you start using the equipment!0460 742 001- 12 - ESAB AB 2017

5 OPERATION5.1Connections and control devices1. Control panel, see separate instructionmanual2. Connection for remote control unit3. Connection for start signal from thewelding torch4. Connection for gas to the torch5.25. Connection (-) TIG: Welding torch MMA:Welding cable or return cable6. Connection ( ) TIG: Return cable MMA:Return cable or welding cable7. Mains voltage switch8. Connection for shielding gasConnection of welding and return cableThe power source has two outputs, a positive terminal ( ) and a negative terminal (-), forconnecting welding and return cables. The output to which the welding cable is connecteddepends on the welding method or type of electrode used.Connect the return cable to the other output on the power source. Secure the return cable'scontact clamp to the work piece and ensure that there is good contact between the workpiece and the output for the return cable on the power source. For MMA welding, the welding cable can be connected to the positive terminal ( ) ornegative terminal (-) depending on the type of electrode used. The connecting polarity isstated on the electrode packaging.5.3Fan controlThe power source has a time control that means that the fans continue to run for 6.5 minutesafter welding has stopped, and the unit switches to energy-saving mode. The fans start againwhen welding restarts. The fans run at reduced speed for welding currents up to 110 A, and at full speed for highercurrents.0460 742 001- 13 - ESAB AB 2017

5 OPERATION5.4Overheating ProtectionThe welding power source has overheating protection that operates if the temperaturebecomes too high. When this occurs the welding current is interrupted and a fault code isdisplayed on the control panel. The overheating protection resets automatically when the temperature has fallen.5.5TIG weldingTIG welding melts the metal of the workpiece, using an arc struck from a tungsten electrode, which does not itself melt. The weld pool and the electrode are protected by shielding gas.For TIG welding, the welding power source is supplemented with: TIG torch, see chapter "ACCESSORIES"an argon gas cylinderan argon gas regulatortungsten electrode5.6MMA weldingFor MMA welding, the power source is supplemented with: welding cable with electrode clamp, see chapter "ACCESSORIES"0460 742 001- 14 - ESAB AB 2017

6 MAINTENANCE6MAINTENANCERegular maintenance is important for safe, reliable operation.Only those persons who have appropriate electrical knowledge (authorised personnel) mayremove the safety plates to connect or carry out service, maintenance or repair work onwelding equipment.CAUTION!All warranty undertakings from the supplier cease to apply if the customerattempts any work to rectify any faults in the product during the warranty period.6.1Power unitCheck regularly that the welding power source is not clogged with dirt. How often and which cleaning methods apply depend on: the welding process, arc times, placement, and the surrounding environment. It is normally sufficient to blow the powersource clean with dry compressed air (reduced pressure) once a year. Clogged or blockedair inlets and outlets otherwise result in overheating.6.2Welding torchWear parts should be cleaned and replaced at regular intervals in order to achievetrouble-free welding.0460 742 001- 15 - ESAB AB 2017

7 FAULT TRACING7FAULT TRACINGTry these recommended checks and inspections before sending for an authorized servicetechnician.Type of faultActionNo arc. Check that the mains power supplyswitch is turned on. Check that the welding and return cablesare correctly connected. Check that the correct current value isset. Check the mains power supply fuses.Welding current is interrupted during welding. Check whether the overloading protectionhas deployed (indicated in the controlpanel). Check the main power supply fuses. The overheating protection trips frequently. Make sure that you are not exceeding therated data for the welding power source(i.e. that the unit is not being overloaded). Check that the air inlets and outlets arenot obstructed or blocked.Poor welding performance. Check that the welding and return cablesare correctly connected. Check that the correct current value isset. Check that the correct electrodes arebeing used. Check the main power supply fuses. Check gas flow and gas quality.0460 742 001- 16 - ESAB AB 2017
