REGISTRAR’S OFFICEThe Registrar’s Office is responsible for maintaining studentacademic records, course scheduling, course registration,administering exams, issuing transcripts, rank letters,diplomas, lockers, and parking permits.Examination PolicyI. The Date and/or Time of an ExamMay Be Changed If:A. Two or more exams are scheduled on the sameday.“Day” does not mean any 24-hour period; i.e.,Tuesday afternoon followed by a Wednesdaymorning exam is not a basis for change under thisprovision.B. IllnessStudents who are are too ill to take an exam mustcontact the Registrar’s Office or the Assistant Deanof Students before the exam begins. The exam mustbe made up as soon as possible. If the student missesmore than one exam due to the same illness, theywill need to call the Registrar or the Assistant Deanof Students before each exam.A doctor’s note is required if a student misses anexam due to illness. If the student is very ill on theday of an exam, it is advisable not to take the exam.Once the exam book is opened, the student mustcomplete the exam. The student must decide beforethe exam starts if they are well enough to take it.C. Personal Circumstance Beyond Student’s ControlIf there are exceptional circumstances beyond astudent’s control, such as serious illness or deathin the family, the Assistant Dean of Students willdecide if it is appropriate to change the date and/ortime of an exam. Not included under this categoryare early vacations, conferences, weddings, jobs withearly start dates, or preferring a different schedule.Difficulties with child-care arrangements are alsonot included. It is advisable to have alternative childcare arrangements available in the event your childor baby sitter becomes ill or unavailable that day.II. Changing Exam SchedulesOnly the Registrar can change an exam schedule;faculty cannot make or approve these changes. In theinterest of maintaining anonymity in grading, it isimportant NOT to discuss proposed exam changeswith the faculty.8 Student Handbook 2016-2017III. The Student’s Responsibility toKnow Their Exam ScheduleIt is very important the student know exactly when,where and the duration of each of their exams. Thefinal exam schedule is published early in the semester,first as a tentative schedule, where major or minorglitches can be corrected, and then as a final schedule.The student must know from the final schedule exactlywhen and where they are scheduled to be. Coursesyllabi generally give the dates for midterm exams andother quizzes and exams.Students should be seated in the exam room for atleast 15 minutes before the exam is scheduled to begin.IV. Students who receive accommodations for exams willreceive separate instructions from the Registrar’soffice prior to the day of the exam. The Students andApplicants With Disabilities Policy is separatelyincluded in this Policy Handbook.V. Items Permitted in Exam RoomsFor all exams students must bring pens and/or pencils.In all exams the student may bring something to eatand/or drink. For open-book exams students may bringwhat the instructor has authorized. If the instructordoes not specify, the only electronic devices that maybe used in an exam are (1) an English to first languageelectronic dictionary, (2) a calculator, or (3) thoseapproved by the Deans as a reasonable accommodation.Unless permitted by the instructor, no computer orelectronic device may be used to communicate withanother person during an exam.VI. Items Not Permitted in Exam RoomsIn closed-book exams, that is, any exam not specificallydesignated “open book,” students will not be permittedto bring books, purses, or anything beside pen and/orpencil to their seat. It is better to leave these things athome. If students do bring them to the exam room,they will need to leave them at the front of the room.VII. Turning In Exam MaterialsStudents must return all exam materials at the end ofthe exam.VIII. Exam InstructionsWhen a student first receives the exam booklet, and areinstructed to do so, make sure there is a complete test,i.e. if the exam is seven pages long, make sure there areseven different and consecutive pages.

Listen very carefully to the exam instructions andmake sure you understand them.Once exams are handed to students, no changes aremade in them, not even for clerical corrections. If astudent thinks a clerical error was made, or they are notsure how to interpret a question or part of a question,explain in writing in the answer whatever assumptionsthe student is making to resolve the issue. When theproctor says time is up, stop writing immediately and putyour pen or pencil down on the desk.IX. Leaving The Exam Room During An ExamStudents are discouraged from leaving the exam roomduring an exam. Rest room breaks must be brief. Ifa student finds it necessary to leave the room, s/he isnot permitted to access computer terminals, smoke, orspend time speaking with others.X. Late To An ExamStudents more than 10 minutes late should go to theRegistrar’s Office; do not go directly to the exam.Students are not permitted to make up the lost timeexcept when situations arise that are beyond theindividual’s control.XI. Take-home Exams and PapersTake-home exams and papers must be submitted tothe Registrar’s Office by the time and date due. It isthe student’s responsibility to make certain that examsand papers are complete before handing them in to theRegistrar. Students shall not consult with anyone unlessauthorized by the course instructor.XII. Discussing ExamsUnless permitted by the instructor, students shall notdiscuss any exam with other students during the examperiod.XIII. Exam SoftwareStudents have the option of using Electronic Blue Book(EBB) software to type their final exams. EBB, offeredby CompuTest LLC, is fully compatible with macs. Theoption of taking exams via lap tops is offered to thestudents as a convenience and privilege, not as a right.Making sure your equipment is in good working orderand knowing how to use the program is the student’sresponsibility. Students choose this option at their ownrisk and should be prepared to hand write their exam incase of an unforeseen problem.Please note the following:1. Prior to the exam, students are required to take ashort practice exam to activate the full version ofEBB on the student’s computer.2. Any attempt to disable or tamper with the securityfeatures of EBB will result in an Honor Codecomplaint being lodged against the student.3. If for any reason, the student cannot continue typingthe exam using EBB software, s/he must hand writethe remainder of the exam.4. On exam day students must arrive 15 minutes priorto the start of the exam. Their lap tops must be turnedon and running at least 10 minutes before the examstarts. Do not open EBB until the proctor gives youinstructions.5. Only essay portions of the exam will be administeredon EBB. This program will not be offered for takehome exams.6. Use of EBB for exams is at the professor’s discretion.FINANCIAL INFORMATIONFOR UNH LAW STUDENTSStudent tuition payments and student refunds will behandled through the Webcat Services tab in Blackboard/MyUNH at www.blackboard.unh.edu Fall tuition bills are scheduled to post mid-July and aredue early August. Spring semester bills will be postedin mid-December and due in mid-January. Monthlystatements are issued if balances exist.Billing is “paperless” – online only. Students are notifiedthrough their UNH Law-assigned email accountswhen new bills are posted. Parent Portal accounts areavailable for any student who wishes to grant accountaccess to another person.UNH Law students will be billed based on full-timestatus. Students who plan to enroll less than fulltime should notify the Assistant Dean for studentsand Business Services by the due date, so accountadjustments can be made.The bill will show the Account Balance (total charges),Pending Items (aid or payments that have not yetarrived) and Net Balance (the amount due after thepending items are subtracted).Payments may be made online, or the bill can be printedand mailed with payment. Payment is accepted throughonline check or credit card, paper check, bank check,money order, cash or wire transfer (contact BusinessStudent Handbook 2016-2017 9

A2.75% service charge will be added to credit cardtransactions.An optional 5-month payment plan for fall and springsemesters is offered through Tuition ManagementSystems, and is due the first of each month from July–April. Latefees may result in holds being placed on student’saccounts or student beig disenrolled from classes.UNH requires health insurance as a condition ofenrollment for all full-time degree students. Studentsmay waive the UNH insurance if they have coveragethrough another equivalent plan. The insurance chargewill appear on the student bill if a waiver has not beenreceived prior to billing. Account adjustments will bemade if waivers are submitted after bills are produced.Please submit insurance waivers prior to August 7th toavoid late fees. Student health benefits plan info: 844260-9900 unh.edu/shbpDisbursement of financial aid is expected approximatelyone week prior to the start of each semester. Studentswhose payments exceed their charges may requesta refund any time after receipt and settlement of thetuition bill. It is the student’s responsibility to initiatea refund request. A refund request form is availablethrough the Webcat/Services tab in Blackboard.Refunds through this form will be sent by direct depositto the student’s savings or checking account. Please contact UNH Business Services with anyquestions.Withdrawal PolicyWithdrawal - A student wishing to withdraw from UNHLaw must complete a withdrawal form and file it withthe Assistant Dean for Students. Any student consideringwithdrawal must contact Financial Aid to discuss the financialimplications of such action. The official date of withdrawalis the date the student completes the withdrawal form andsubmits it to the Assistant Dean for Students. The officialdate of the withdrawal is the official date used to determineany financial adjustments. Tuition and mandatory fees arereduced according to the withdrawal schedule below. Oncefinancial adjustments have been made any overpaymentwill be refunded to the student. Refund processing will takeapproximately 45 days.Refund Schedule on Tuition and Fees 2016-2017 - Anydegree candidate who withdraws from UNH Law andsubsequently enrolls as a special (non-degree) student duringthe current semester or the next academic year will continueto be billed for tuition and fees at the same rate as degreecandidates, using appropriate rates for resident/non-residentand undergraduate/graduate status.Change to Part-Time Status - Students who have writtenpermission from the Assistant Dean for Students to dropfrom full-time to part-time status during the dates on thewithdrawal schedule will be responsible for a portion ofthe full-time and mandatory fees in accordance with thewithdrawal date schedule above.Federal Aid - If federal financial aid has been received,it will be returned to the lender in accordance with U.S.Department of Education regulations in effect at the time ofwithdrawal. Please note that the return of aid may create anunpaid balance owed to UNH Law.
