Wedding Stationery TermsThere are many pieces that you can choose to include in yourinvitation suite. An invitation suite is the complete set that you sendto each guest. It is important to include all the information yourguests need to attend your wedding.Invitation: The invitation contains all theinformation necessary for your guests toattend your wedding including the couple’snames, who is hosting, date, time, andlocation. The invitation is a single card that ispart of an invitation suite. By etiquette itshould not include RSVP info, registry info, orwedding website. All of that informationshould go on an insert card in the invitationsuite.RSVP: An abbreviation of a French phrase for“respond please.” An RSVP allows your guests toinform you of their attendance. If you are having aplated dinner this is also where your guestswill inform you of their dinner choice. This is a separate card included in the invitationsuite. As technology has advanced many couplesutilize online RSVPs. If you choose to have RSVPsreturned by mail you can make it easier for yourguests by using a preaddressed postcard or envelope.Insert: Any additional cards included in theinvitation suite. Examples of inserts arereception cards, direction cards, weddingwebsite card, and accommodations. You maychoose to use a single card or multiple cardsdepending on how much information your guestswill need in order to attend.
Envelope liner: A piece of paper mounted inside anenvelope flap to make the envelope more unique. Itcan be a solid color, patterned, custom designed, ormetallic.Inner Envelope: Traditionally weddinginvitation suites included two envelopesone for mailing and one to keep theinvitation nice and neat. An inner envelopecan include the names of the invited guests. Most couples choose to skip this but notethat a formal wedding invitation willusually include one.Outer Envelope: This is the mailingenvelope that you will print the namesand addresses of your guests. Overtime, the traditional inner envelope haslost popularity and this has become theonly envelope used in a weddinginvitation suite.Pocket: A pocket has 3 panels: a flap forfolding, a panel for mounting the invitation, and a pocket for holding insert cards, theRSVP card and envelope. When folded it willlook like an envelope but it will still need to beput into an envelope for mailing. Laser cutpockets are also available.Belly band: A piece of paper, vellum, or card stocknormally 1-2” thick that is wrapped around apocket or invitation suite to hold it alltogether. Can be solid color or custom printed.
Printing TechniquesDigital printing is the standard printing technique of all invitationsuite pieces. There are some other printing techniques areavailable for an additional fee. Those include:Letterpress- this is a labor-intensive process, so it is reflected inthe cost. A plate is created and ink is rolled on to the plate. Thecard stock is laid on the plate and pressure is applied which makesan imprint on the card stock and presses the ink into thepaper. A drawback to letterpress is that limits design and fontoptions because of the ink as well as the thickness of the linesrequired for a high-quality imprint.Foil Stamping- this process involves pressing a thin foil into thecard stock just like letterpress except with heat added to get thefoil to adhere to the card stock. The labor and cost is similar toletterpress.White ink– this is a great option on dark card stocks andenvelopes. It takes a special printer and ink to print white on darkpapers and is a more expensive options because of the process toachieve the true white color.Due to the special nature of these printing types an additional 4weeks should be added onto the process timeline. This invitation suite is an example of foil on a metallic card stock.
EnvelopesYou many choose any available envelope color at no additional cost.A colored envelope in one of your wedding colors is a unique optionsnot available other places. Here are the standard color options to choose from. This is a very collaborative step between youand I to get to that “I love it!” response.PHASE TWO (1-2 weeks)- Once the invitation is perfect, I will takethe colors, fonts, and design elements from your invitation anddesign the other pieces of your invitation suite. Designs will be sentto you for feedback of what you like and what you would likechanged. This is where you take your time and reviewall items with utmost scrutiny because once the proof is approvedwe move to production of the items.PHASE FOUR (2-3 weeks)– Getting stuff done! Printing of all itemshappens in this phase. Once everything is complete you will get allpieces and are ready to send them out.
