More than six million Australiansvolunteer each year, contributing morethan 700 million hours of communityservice. Volunteers are the lifebloodof local communities.The City of Whitehorse is fortunate to have a vibrantvolunteer community. Many of the organisations that operatein Whitehorse could not do so without the support andcommitment of volunteers. Council recognises and valuesthe enormous contribution that volunteers make to our localcommunity and the vital role that these volunteers play bystrengthening and enhancing community connectedness.Whitehorse City Council and Eastern Volunteers haveproduced this booklet to profile local communityorganisations and their volunteering opportunities.Almost 100 organisations and groups are included inthe 2018 edition of the Get Involved booklet, highlightinga myriad of volunteering roles including working with theelderly, animals, young people, children and recently arrivedmigrants. There is something for any interest – history, theenvironment, craft, health, technology and many more areas.We hope that this booklet will be a valuable tool foranyone who is thinking about getting involved in their localcommunity through volunteering. We also hopeit will be a vehicle for spreading the word about thevaried and invaluable contributions local volunteer-involvingorganisations make to the local community.

WHITEHORSE RUNNERS EXCELL AT CRAZYLEGS RUN The Whitehorse Crazylegs Team had a great time at this year’s run. There were 17 student runners and 10 teachers who all completed the 5 mile race.
