ARCloans are deferredpayment loans up to 35,000, designed toprovide a “bridge” forviable small businesseswith immediate financialhardship—to keep theirdoors open until they getback on track.“These ARC loans areanother tool in the SBAtoolkit which will providecritical support to smallbusinesses struggling tomake it through thesetough economic times,”said Administrator KarenG. Mills.ARC loans are deferredpayment loans of up to 35,000, available toestablished, viable, forprofit small businessesthat need short-term helpto make their principaland interest payments onexisting and qualifyingbusiness debt. ARC loansare 100 percentguaranteed by the SBAand have no SBA feesassociated with them.ARC loans will bedisbursed over a period ofup to six months and willprovide funds to be usedfor payments of principaland interest for existing,qualifying small businessdebt including mortgages,term and revolving lines ofcredit, capital leases,credit card obligationsand notes payable tovendors, suppliers andutilities. SBA will pay theinterest on ARC loans tothe lenders at thevariable rate of Prime plustwo percent.Repayment will not beginuntil 12 months after thefinal disbursement. Afterthe 12-month deferralperiod, borrowers will payback the loan principalover a period of five years.ARC loans will be made bycommercial lenders, notSBA directly.For more information onARC loans, visitwww.sba.govWitmer JonesDistrict Director

An economicsand environmental studies double major, this internship with SBA will provide her with a uniqueperspective on the country’s economic recovery.“This experience will be invaluable, because I am seeing first hand how the United States Government isassisting Americans,” said Sarah. “With my strong interest in business, I am getting a better understanding ofall the legalities and challenges of starting a business. But also how the SBA can truly make a difference. Icontinue to learn all about the SBA and to see the direct resultof the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as it appliesto New Hampshire’s small business community.”Sarah has been on the Dean’s List every semester sinceher first year at HWS. In the fall, she will be attendingthe University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK. Ultimately,Sarah would like to pursue a career in economicdevelopment and environmental management.Welcome Hugh Curley, Hugh joined the Concord office of the SBA in 2009 with over twentyyears experience in the area of Economic and Business Development. Prior to coming toNew Hampshire, Hugh had managed the SBA’s Business Information Center in Hartford,Connecticut and was the primary liaison of the SBA to state, regional and local economicdevelopment programs and initiatives inConnecticut. Hugh also served as Vice Presidentof the Middlesex County Chamber of Commercewhere he managed a revolving loan fund targetedto small businesses in Middlesex County, CT. Atthe SBA District Office in Concord, Hugh is thePublic Information Officer and involved in themarketing of SBA products and services tobusiness owners, lenders and economicdevelopment officials throughout the state.

New Hampshire District OfficePage 4Phil’s Old Fashioned BBQCongresswoman Carol Shea-Porterat SBA Press Conference “100 DaysAfter the Recovery Act”In an effort to stimulate lending to small business owners and entrepreneurs, theAmerican Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed into law on February 17, 2009,includes provisions to enable the U.S. Small Business Administration to reduce fees,increase its guaranty percentage and enhance other current SBA programs. Two keyprovisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides for the temporaryelimination of loan fees and the temporary increase of the SBA loan guarantee to 90percent on most of the agency’s loan programs.
