We recommend that You takea copy with You when You travel.Please familiarise Yourself with its contents. We want to ensure Youare clear about what Your Qantas American Express Ultimate Cardcomplimentary insurance covers You for. So if You are unclear aboutanything in this document, please call Chubb on 1800 236 023 and Ourinsurance team will be happy to assist You with any enquiries.Please note that amounts quoted are in Australian dollars.1.ELIGIBILITY & ACTIVATION OF INSURANCE BENEFITSImportant: In order to be eligible for the complimentary insurancebenefits, You must first purchase the full fare for a Trip, or an Eligible Item,on the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card Account. You should read this document carefully. This policycontains both general and specific exclusions. General exclusions apply toall parts of the Policy and can be found at page 24 under the section titledGeneral Exclusions. Specific exclusions apply only to specific parts of thepolicy and can be found at the end of each benefit section.We have highlighted a few important exclusions and limitations below: L osses arising from any Pre-existing Medical Conditions are notcovered. ou must be under eighty (80) years of age and in a good stateYof health and fit to travel. L osses arising from the death, imminent death, serious accident oracute illness of any Close Relative who is over the age of eighty (80)years are not covered. Items left Unattended in a Public Place are not covered.(a) P ublic Place means, but is not limited to, shops, buses, planes,trains, taxis, airports, bus depots, hotel foyers, restaurants, cafes,beaches and any place that is accessible by the public.(b) U nattended means when Your possessions are not under Yourobservation and within Your reach and/or Your possessions can betaken without You being able to prevent them from being taken.6

TerminationCover will terminate at the earlier of the following: cancellation of Your Qantas American Express Ultimate Card; or termination of the Master Policy.The cover provided is subject to any endorsements and/or amendmentsto the Master Policy from time to time. A copy of any updated informationis available to You at no cost by visiting the website nce.This document replaces and supersedes any certificates that have beenpreviously issued or details of terms of cover for the Master Policyprovided prior to the effective date of these Terms and Conditions.3.IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS COVERThese Terms and Conditions set out important information about TransportAccident Cover, Travel Inconvenience Cover, Medical Emergency ExpensesCover, Resumption of Journey Cover, Baggage, Money and DocumentsCover, Travel Cancellation Cover, Personal Liability Cover, PurchaseProtection Cover and Refund Protection Cover.These Terms and Conditions explain the nature of the insurancearrangement and its relevant benefits and risks.AEAL holds a Master Policy (Chubb reference number 09NACQUC06 the“Master Policy”) with Chubb.Under the Master Policy, You get access to the benefits detailed in theseTerms and Conditions (subject to the terms and conditions specified)provided by Chubb as the insurer where You have met the activation andeligibility requirements set out in the Eligibility & Activation of InsuranceBenefits above. You are not charged by Chubb for these benefits.Access to this insurance is provided to You solely by reason of the statutoryoperation of section 48 of the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth). You arenot a contracting insured (i.e. You cannot vary or cancel the cover – onlyAEAL can do this) and You do not enter into any agreement with Us. AEALis not the insurer, does not guarantee or hold this right on trust for You anddoes not act as Chubb’s agent (that is, on behalf of Chubb). Neither AEALnor any of its related corporations are Authorised Representatives (underthe Corporations Act 2001 (Cth)) of Chubb or any of its related companies.AEAL is not authorised to provide any advice, recommendations oropinions about this insurance on behalf of Chubb.No advice is provided by Chubb on whether this insurance is appropriatefor Your needs, financial situation or objectives. 4. DEFINITIONSThe following words when used with capital letters in this document havethe meaning given below.Additional Card Member means:1.a person who has been issued an additional card on a QantasAmerican Express Ultimate Card Account and may previously havebeen referred to as a Supplementary Card Member; and2. t heir husband, wife, fiance(e), de-facto or life partner with whom theyhave continuously cohabited for a period of six (6) months or more; and3.t heir legally dependent children (including stepchildren or legallyadopted children) who are twenty-four (24) years of age or less andwholly dependent on them for financial support.AEAL means American Express Australia Limited (ABN 92 108 952 085,Australian Credit Licence and AFS Licence No. 291313) of 12 Shelley Street,Sydney NSW 2000, the Master Policy holder.Appointed Claims Handler means Chubb or its claims handling agentand/or representative.Chubb means Chubb Insurance Australia Limited (ABN 23 001 642 020,AFS Licence No. 239687) of Grosvenor Place, Level 38, 225 George Street,Sydney NSW Australia, the insurer of the Master Policy held by AEAL.Chubb Assistance means the service provider acting on behalf of Chubb toprovide emergency medical and travel assistance, legal assistance, roadsideassistance and home assistance.Close Relative means spouse, parent, parent-in-law, step-parent, child,brother, half-brother, step-brother, brother-in-law, sister, half-sister,step-sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, niece, nephew,uncle, aunt, grandparent or grandchild.Common Carrier Conveyance means an air, land or water vehicle(other than a rental vehicle or Private Charter aircraft) operated bya common carrier licensed to carry passengers for hire (including taxisand airport limousines).Common Carrier Conveyance Trip means a Trip taken by You on aCommon Carrier Conveyance:(a) b etween the point of departure and the final destination as shownon Your ticket; and(b) f or which the entire fare has been charged to Your QantasAmerican Express Ultimate Card Account (or equivalent inQantas Points).Doctor means a legally registered medical practitioner or dentist whois not You or Your relative.Domestic Return Trip means:1.a return trip that is more than 150 km from Your place of residence andis within Australia; and2. f or which the full return fare has been charged to Your QantasAmerican Express Ultimate Card Account, or paid for with equivalentQantas Points, or is a flight taken under the Qantas Travel Credit.Eligible Item means an item:1. that is purchased solely for personal use; and2. that is new and has not been used; and3.t he cost of which has been charged to a Qantas American ExpressUltimate Card Account.8

Injury means bodily injury which:1.i s caused by accidental, violent, external and visible means (theaccident) and results solely and directly from the accident andindependently of all other causes; and2. causes a loss, within one hundred (100) days of the accident.Insolvency means bankruptcy, provisional liquidation, liquidation,insolvency, appointment of a receiver or administrator, entry into a schemeof arrangement, statutory protection stopping the payment of debts or thehappening of anything of a similar nature under the laws of any jurisdiction.International Return Trip means:1.a return trip anywhere outside Australia; and2. which commences and ends in Australia; and3.f or which the full return fare has been charged to Your QantasAmerican Express Ultimate Card Account (or paid for with equivalentQantas Points) or with Qantas Travel Credit.Loss means loss of life, or:1.c omplete and permanent severance of a foot at or above theankle joint;2. complete and permanent severance of a hand at or above the wrist;3.the irrecoverable loss of the entire sight of an eye.Medical Condition means any medical or psychological disease, sickness,condition, illness or injury that has affected:1. ou or any travelling companion or person with whom You intendYto stay whilst on Your Trip; or2. Y our Close Relative or the Close Relative of any travelling companion;or3.a Close Relative of a person with whom You intend to stay whilston Your Trip.Pre-existing Medical Condition means:1.a ny past or current Medical Condition that, during the 2 years priorto You booking any Trip has given rise to symptoms, or for which anyform of treatment or prescribed medication, medical consultation,investigation or follow-up/check-up has been required or received; or2. a ny cardiovascular or circulatory condition (e.g. heart condition,hypertension, blood clots, raised cholesterol, stroke, aneurysm) that hasoccurred at any time prior to You booking any Trip; or3.a ny pregnancy if, at the time of any Trip, is within eight (8) weeks of theestimated date of delivery.Primary Card Member means:1.t he person who applied for the Qantas American Express UltimateCard Account and who is issued a Qantas American Express UltimateCard Account as the primary account holder; and2. t heir husband, wife, fiance(e), de-facto or life partner with whom theyhave continuously cohabited for a period of six (6) months or more;and3.t heir legally dependent children (including stepchildren or legallyadopted children) who are twenty-four (24) years of age or less andwholly dependent on them for financial support.Primary Card Member does not include a Additional Card Member.9

Private Charter means a flight or flights during Your Trip on an aircraftwhere You and Your travelling companions are the only passengers.Purchase Price means the amount shown on the Qantas American ExpressUltimate Card Account billing statement.Qantas American Express Ultimate Card Account means a QantasAmerican Express Ultimate Card account issued by AEAL, billed fromAustralia and in Australian dollars.Qantas Travel Credit means the Qantas Travel Credit provided as a benefitunder the Qantas American Express Card Account, the terms of which aredefined in the Qantas Travel Credit terms and conditionsScheduled Airline means an airline listed in the official airline guideor equivalent and the air carrier holds a certificate, licence or similarauthorisation for scheduled air transportation issued by the relevantauthorities in the country in which the aircraft is registered and, inaccordance with such authorisation, maintains and publishes schedules andtariffs for passenger service between named airports at regular and specifictimes. Scheduled Airline does not include Private Charter.Scheduled Flight means a flight in an aircraft on a Scheduled Airline.Special Sports means boxing; cave diving; horse jumping; hunting andhunting on horseback; professional sports; solo canyoning; solo caving;solo diving; solo mountain-climbing; steeple chasing; any form of motorracing, speed, performance or endurance tests; abseiling; American football;baseball; bob sleigh; bungee jumping; canoeing; clay pigeon shooting;deep sea fishing; fell running; go-karting; hang gliding; heli-skiing; hockey;horse riding; hot air ballooning; ice hockey; jet biking and jet skiing; luge;martial arts; microlighting; mountain biking off tarmac; mountaineering;parachuting; paragliding; parascending; paraskiing; polo; potholing; quadbiking; rock climbing; rugby; scuba diving deeper than thirty (30) metres;skeleton; skidoo; ski-jumping; ski-racing; ski-stunting; tour operator safari(where You or any tourist will be carrying guns); trekking; war games/paintball; white water canoeing and rafting; yachting more than twenty (20)nautical miles from the nearest coastline.Terrorism means activities against persons, organisations or propertyof any nature:1.that involves the following or preparation for the following:(a) use of, or threat of, force or violence; or(b) commission of, or threat of, force or violence; or(c) c ommission of, or threat of, an act that interferes with or disruptsan electronic communication, information, or mechanical system;and2. when one (1) or both of the following applies:(a) t he effect is to intimidate or coerce a government or the civilianpopulation or any segment thereof, or to disrupt any segmentof the economy; and/or(b) i t appears that the intent is to intimidate or coerce a government, orto further political, ideological, religious, social or economic objectivesor to express (or express opposition to) a philosophy or ideology.Treatment means surgical or medical procedures performed by a Doctoror qualified dentist where the sole purpose of which is to cure or relieveacute illness or injury.10

Trip means a Domestic Return Trip or International Return Trip,commencing and ending in Australia, and ceasing the earlier of:1.when You return to Your usual place of residence;2. w hen Your Trip exceeds one hundred and eighty (180) consecutive days;or3. hen You have travelled a total of one hundred and eighty-threew(183) days during each year of Qantas American Express Ultimate CardAccount membership.You/Your means:1.a Primary Card Member; and2. i n respect of the following benefit sections only, a Primary CardMember and a Additional Card Member:A – Transport Accident Cover;H – Purchase Protection Cover;I – Refund Protection Cover.We/Our/Us means Chubb Insurance Australia Limited(ABN 23 001 642 020, AFS Licence No. 239687).5.BENEFITSSECTION (A) TRANSPORT ACCIDENT COVERCoverCover is provided under this section for the following benefits, subjectto all terms, conditions and limitations set out in this document.1. Loss arising while riding as a passenger in a Common CarrierConveyance If whilst on a Common Carrier Conveyance Trip You sustain an Injurythat results in a Loss of riding as a passenger in, or boarding or alightingfrom, or being struck by a Common Carrier Conveyance, We will paythe applicable benefit amount noted in paragraph 6 of this sectionentitled “Benefit Amounts and Covered Limits”.2. Loss arising from transport to/from a Common Carrier Conveyance If whilst on a Common Carrier Conveyance Trip You sustain an Injurythat results in a Loss of riding as a passenger in a Common CarrierConveyance:(a) w hen going directly to a point of departure (as designated on Yourticket) for the purpose of boarding a Common Carrier Conveyance;or(b) w hen leaving a destination after alighting from a Common CarrierConveyance, e will pay the applicable benefit amount noted in paragraph 6 of thisWsection entitled “Benefit Amounts and Covered Limits”.3. Loss arising while in a departure terminal or destination terminal If whilst on a Common Carrier Conveyance Trip You sustain an Injurythat results in a Loss due to an accident while You are in eitherthe point of departure terminal or destination terminal (both asdesignated on Your ticket), We will pay the applicable benefit amountnoted in paragraph 6 of this section entitled “Benefit Amounts andCovered Limits”.11

4. Loss arising from exposure If whilst on a Common Carrier Conveyance Trip You are unavoidablyexposed to the elements and sustain an Injury that results in aLoss, other than loss of life, due to an accident which results in thedisappearance, sinking or wrecking of the Common Carrier Conveyanceon which You were travelling, We will pay the applicable benefitamount noted in paragraph 6 of this section entitled “Benefit Amountsand Covered Limits”.5. Loss arising from disappearance If whilst on a Common Carrier Conveyance Trip You disappear due toan accident which results in the disappearance, sinking or wrecking ofthe Common Carrier Conveyance on which You were travelling, andYour body has not been found within fifty-two (52) weeks after thedate of such accident, it will be presumed, subject to there being noevidence to the contrary, that You suffered loss of life and We will paythe applicable benefit amount noted in paragraph 6 of this sectionentitled “Benefit Amounts and Covered Limits”.6. Benefit Amounts and Covered LimitsLoss type Loss of life Dismemberment:Loss of both hands or both feet Loss of one (1) hand and one (1) foot Loss of entire sight of both eyes Loss of entire sight of one (1) eyeand one (1) hand or one (1) foot Loss of one (1) hand or one (1) foot Loss of the entire sight of one (1) eye Benefit Amount ,000Terms and Conditions applicable to Transport Accident Cover1. In no event will We pay for more than one (1) Loss sustained by Youas a result of any one (1) accident or Injury. Where more than one(1) type of Loss is sustained, the benefit will be paid for the greatestLoss amount.2. I f You are also entitled to make a claim under the insurance coverprovided by Us under another AEAL issued card account, We will onlymake one (1) payment equal to the highest benefit amount payableunder all insurance cover provided by Us in relation to the accident andLoss in question.3. enefits will be paid in Australian dollars to You or, in the case of YourBLoss of life, to Your estate.12

SECTION (B) TRAVEL INCONVENIENCE COVERCoverAdditional Card Members are not entitled to cover under this section.Cover is provided under this section for the following benefits, subjectto all terms, conditions and limitations set out in this document. Themaximum We will pay out under each subsection below where more thanone person claims for expenses on the same Qantas American ExpressUltimate Card Account is 400 per event.1. Delayed flight departure, flight cancellation, or denied aircraft boarding If during a trip departure of Your Scheduled Flight is delayed forfour (4) hours or more, cancelled, or You are denied boarding of theaircraft due to over-booking, and no alternative transportation is madeavailable to You within four (4) hours of the scheduled departure timeof such flight, We will reimburse You for hotel accommodation andrestaurant meals or refreshments up to AUD200.2. Missed flight connections If during a trip Your onward connecting Scheduled Flight is missed atthe transfer point due to the late arrival of Your incoming connectingScheduled Flight, and no alternative onward transportation is madeavailable to You within four (4) hours of the actual arrival time of theincoming flight, We will reimburse You for hotel accommodation andrestaurant meals or refreshments up to AUD200.3.Luggage delay checked on Scheduled Flight If during a trip Your accompanying luggage checked on the ScheduledFlight is not delivered within six (6) hours of Your arrival at thescheduled destination point of Your flight, We will reimburse You forthe emergency purchase of essential clothing and requisites up toAUD200 incurred at such scheduled destination.4. Extended luggage delay checked on Scheduled Flight If during a trip Your accompanying luggage checked on the ScheduledFlight is not delivered to You within forty-eight (48) hours of Yourarrival at the scheduled destination point (not being Your place ofresidence) of Your flight, We will reimburse You for the emergencypurchase of essential clothing and requisites up to an additionalAUD200 incurred at such scheduled destination.Terms and Conditions applicable to Travel Inconvenience Cover1. Accommodation, restaurant meals or refreshments, emergencypurchase of essential clothing and requisites must be charged to YourQantas American Express Ultimate Card account.2. S hould more than one (1) person claim under the benefits in paragraphs1, 2, 3 and 4 of this section in relation to the same event, You can onlyclaim a maximum of double the benefit limits specified.3.I n the event of a claim, You must provide Us with invoices and/orreceipts.4.
