GiveCampus: #StrengthInUnityThis semester, GLOBE Managers organized theprogram’s 11th GiveCampus; they wanted to focus theattention on the impact that the pandemic has had onpeople all over the world, including GLOBE’sborrowers. The Campaign is centered on the theme“Strength In Unity”. The purpose is to create a sense ofcommunity and to emphasize the belief that overcomingobstacles can be done more effectively by comingtogether. GLOBE Managers believe this message was animportant reminder especially during these challengingtimes and hope to build a stronger community ofsupporters for GLOBE’s borrowers. The Campaign is set to run through the FinalPresentations on Tuesday, December 8th with the hopesof encouraging more donations at the event. Thecampaign is currently at over 160% of the 1500 goal, exceeding expectations. We hope to double our goal bythe end of the campaign. All donations help us continueto empower entrepreneurs around the world!GLOBE’s #ManagerMonday#ManagerMonday posts featured a manager’s major, aninteresting fact about them, and most importantly: Whythey joined GLOBE. This initiative was targeted toGLOBE’s core audience on Instagram -- current St.John’s students. The goal was to inspire those who havenot already become GLOBE managers to do so in thefuture.Thank You Cards to Donors withGLOBE masks includedThis initiative was created to recognize donors foractively donating to GLOBE in previous years. Thesethank you notecards were pre-printed with anexpression of gratitude and included a handwrittenthank you from the GLOBE Managers. Studentsdesigned masks that sported GLOBE ‘s logo, and thesewere inserted in the thank you note as a token ofappreciation to the donors for supporting the program’smission and highlighting their many contributions tothe program’s success. Additionally, a goal of theinitiative was to raise the visibility of the program byhaving people don the mask with the logo and inspirepeople who may not have heard of GLOBE before tolearn more about it. This idea was both, practical andhelpful in creating walking endorsements of GLOBE.The cards and masks arrived to donors just beforeThanksgiving, which was perfect timing for thisexpression of gratitude.

Alumni CornerAyana IbarraGLOBE ManagerFall 2017GLOBE GAFall 2019 - Spring 2020When I applied for the GLOBE program during myjunior year, I had no idea that it would impact my lifethe way that it has. When I became a GLOBE manager,I had little professional experience outside of what Ilearned in the classroom. The GLOBE program isunique in that it provides student managers with theopportunity to gain hands-on experience inentrepreneurship, teamwork, and public speaking. Inthe few months we worked together, myself and myclassmates all evolved professionally. Two years aftercompleting the program I became the GLOBEGraduate Assistant and got to see first-hand the impactGLOBE has on students’ professional development. Iwatched students like myself, who entered the GLOBEprogram with no hands-on experience, who were timidwhen speaking in front of a room full of people, growinto confident young professionals over the course of15 weeks. This alone would be amazing if the only goal ofGLOBE were to assist students in professionaldevelopment, but the fact that the professional growthof students takes place while they are also making adifference in the lives of budding entrepreneurs aroundthe world is what makes GLOBE extraordinary. Theopportunity to help provide loans to theseentrepreneurs, be it through fundraising, digitalmarketing, building their loan amortization chart, orproviding them with tools to manage their funds afterthe loan is dispersed, helps students realize that theirwork has a ripple effect on other’s lives. GLOBEhelped me realize just how big the impact of oneperson could be.During my time on the Technology andCommunications Team, it was our responsibility tomeasure click rates for our end-of-semesterGiveCampus fundraiser. It was in doing this that I realized that often times, itonly took one student sharing a link for their friendsand family to band together and donate 200. With agoal of 4,000 that seems like it barely made a dent, but the fact is 200 is a loan amount that couldchange someone’s life in another country. Thatcould mean buying inventory to sell and provide fortheir families, or it could even mean repairing theroof of their shop so they could resume business.GLOBE truly defined teamwork, and how ifeveryone does their part, each semester of studentmanagers could change the lives of a handful ofpeople. After saying goodbye to my time as a GLOBEstudent manger, I had this new space in my life, aspace for collaboration and giving back, that I knewI had to continue to fill. Like many students, mylove for GLOBE trickled into my professional life, and I often bring up GLOBE in interviews or casualtalks about my time as a student. Since GLOBE. Ihave regularly volunteered, completed freelanceprojects for growing organizations, and prioritizedworking with/for organizations that regularly donategoods, time, or money to those who need it. I amhappy to say I will always be an active member ofthe GLOBE family, taking the mission of GLOBEand the values that Dr. Sama has ingrained into theprogram with me wherever I may go. Go GLOBE!THANK YOU always for yourcontinuous support of GLOBE!
