MSA Web FormBEAN BAG BASEBALL TOURNAMENT RULESPRINCIPLES OF THE GAME1. The beanbag Baseball game is played on a board stand that has beenmodified with openings see Diagram 1. The Beanbags will be made of clothand will measure 2 ½” x 4” with a thickness of 1”.Cut cloth 3” x 9”2. The rules for this game are similar to the real baseball game, that is to saythat the person who is throwing continues to play until he gets three strikes foran out.3. An inning is over when each team has three outs.TEAM PLAY1. For this game, 5 to 12 players are required for each team, depending on howmany want to play. Keep the teams even numbered for competition sake. It isdesirable to have 9 players. You may have subs but once the sub is broughtin the player is out for the rest of the game.2. Each team nominates a Captain and chooses a name.3. Have a baseball play-off chart showing the progression of the winners and theteam names.PLAYERS DISTANCE1. From home plate to the rear of the game board, a distance of 21 feet isrequired. It is 17 feet from the front leg.POSITIONING OF THE PLAYERS AND THE STAND1. The game board must be placed in such a way as to allow a chair to beplaced behind it (2nd base), a chair to its right (1st base), and a chair to its left(3rd base). Make sure there is a reasonable separation between the chairsmarking the bases and the chairs for the teams should sit between homebase and first, and home base and third.2. A line on the ground must clearly indicate where the thrower will stand. If thetoe of the thrower goes ahead of the line, he is OUT. The best way to markthe line is with a small rope held down by two large nails.3. The team chairs must be placed in such a way as not to obstruct the throwersview.4. It is important that each player retains the same chair, in the same team forthe whole game.HOW TO SCORE1. Each player is allowed to throw beanbags until he has a hit, three strikes oran out.2. When the player has thrown a beanbag into one of the holes, he then is to dowhat is written under the hole.3. Lets say that the bean bag enters the 1st base hole, the player drops theremaining bags and goes to sit in the 1st base at the right of the game boardand waits for the next player to throw. He cannot leave his base until the nextplayer successfully throws a hit or the team scores three outs. (THE PLAYERMUST WALK GOING FROM BASE TO BASE. IF HE RUNS HE IS OUT).

At the same timethe player who just threw the double advances to the 2nd base chair touching1st as he goes by.5. If the following player throws a beanbag into the 1st base hole, he goes andsits in the 1st base chair. The player at 3rd base cannot go home and score. He must be forced to go home.6. When the bases are loaded and the following player throws a single the oneplayer comes home and the others advance one base. If he throws a doubletwo players come home and three players come home for a triple.7. A home run makes all players on base score including the player who threwthe beanbag.8. Each bag thrown and not entering a hole is considered a strike. If the 1st and2nd bag enters the foul hole they are considered a strike.9. A player is out when he throws three strikes or puts a beanbag into the outhole.10. If the 3rd bag enters the foul hole, the player is allowed to throw anotherbeanbag until a base hit, strike or an out is made.11. The UMPIRE is to keep track of the outs and the strikes and call them as theplayers make them.12. The inning ends when each team score three outs. When a team has threeouts, the player following the one who made the last out starts the next inning.13. A flip of the coin by the team captains will determine which team will go first.Winner of the toss’ choice.14. If a beanbag is only half in a hole it does not count. If a following bag throw bythe same player pushes it in and enters the same hole the first bag counts.15. You must throw the beanbags underhand.16. A game is complete after nine innings. Short innings may be scheduled.17. For the sake of expediency, 6 runs scored by a team in the same inning endsthe play for that team.18. It is preferable to have an umpire who is not a player. His role is to watch theboard to see which hole is entered and that the player stays behind the line. Also make sure that all runners touch or sit in all chairs as they pass thebases and touch home, or the run can be canceled.19. A scorekeeper is required to keep score on the two teams and to call out thenames as they come up to throw. The umpire will also call out the strikes andouts like a real umpire.HOW TO FILL IN THE SCORE SHEET1.Each team uses a separate score sheet. Fill in the team’s name at the topand the players’ names on the left column.2.If the teams have more than 9 players each use a second score sheet.3.If a players, throws a beanbag into the hole indicating 1st base, circle 1B,the same is true if it should be 2B or 3B or HR.4.When a run is made, fill in the little box above the letters HR on the scoresheet for the person making the run. These should boxes are how to keeptrack of the runs.5.When a player throws into the HOME Run hole, circle the HR and fill in thelittle box for his run. If he drives in runs from any who were sitting on basechairs, fill in the boxes under their names.

MSA Web Form6.When a player is OUT, insert the X in the box. An inning is over when youhave three boxes with an X.7.Draw a line under the square of the player who makes the 3rd OUT, so thenext inning can start with the following player.8.Do not shift to the next inning column each time; keep track of the inningsby these lines. The whole team may have to play before having 3 outs or6 runs and you may run out of columns. Using the line method you mayonly need 5 columns during the 9 innings, but they are there if needed.9.The bottom line on the score sheet is for reporting the runs. Each inningcolumn has two triangles. The first triangle is for the runs made by thefirst 10 players. The second triangle is the running total of the game.Count the filled boxes in the column to give you the runs made for the firsttriangle.
