A box and whisker plot is a unique graph that breaks data into quartiles. Eachquartile, despite how wide it may appear contains the same amount of data.Think of each quartile like a quarter (25 cents). The longer the width of the plotthe further apart the data is in relation to each other. The shorter the width ofthe plot the closer together the data is in relation to each other.Example #1Did the value of the coin change?Did the amount of information in the quartile change? How much is it worth? What percentage of information is being reported?Example #2Did the value of the coin change?Did the amount of information in the quartile change? How much is it worth? What percentage of information is being reported?Copyright 2012Jamie Riggs http://missmathdork.blogspot.com/

A box and whisker plot is a way of showing and comparing distributions. The box represents the middle half of the data (from the 25th to the 75th percentile), . often these give a better idea of the distribution of the data than the minimum and maximum. Box plots can be drawn vertically or horizontally. Box and Whisker charts in Excel
