6th Math Work: Tests and Quizzes:Quizzes will be announced and unannounced. Tests will be based on standards and will be on paper and/or computer. There will be 2 to 3 tests each nineweeks. Tests will be 100 points. Re-takes will be allowed only if a student shows that he/she has worked on concepts via ixl/study island/etc. It will be thestudent’s responsibility to let Mrs. Bishop know if he/she would like to re-take a unit test. Daily Work:Daily work is work that is completed in class. Daily work assignments will vary and may include notes, foldables (interactive notebook), practice problems similar to homework (worksheets/book), warm-ups(daily math), ixl and study island (technology) to reinforce math concepts learned, review games and activities, etc. IXL/Study Island:Computer assignments are given to reinforce and give extra practice on math concepts. There will betime given in class and tribe time to complete the assignments. Math Binder:On test day, a binder check will be completed. All the work completed during the period since the lasttest will be graded. Assignments are expected to be in order from earliest to latest. Each binder check will be 100 points. Math Binders will be separated bytopic area and unit numbers. Homework:Homework is given on a regular basis. If homework is not completed, the student will receive a zero and have study hall.Habitual homework incompletion will result in a phone call home. Classroom Participation:Active classroom participation is expected. Group Work:We will be working in groups to solve problems/tasks. Group work will help extend our learning, enhance creativity, and allow for discussion of ideas/solutions. Projects/Presentations:There will be times when we will have projects and/or presentations on a mathematics concept. Theproject/presentation may be an individual or group activity. Daily Math/Interactive Notebooks:Daily math notebook will contain warm-up problems at the beginning of class. The interactive notebookwill contain foldables and other resources that will give students easy access to concepts. Bothnotebooks will be graded periodically during each nine weeks.

The school attendance policy will apply to any absences.Extra Help & Extra Credit Opportunities: I am more than happy to meet with a student after school to go over anything he/she may need extra help to complete.Extra credit will be given periodically. It will be the student’s responsibility to see Mrs. Bishop for extra credit. Please do not wait until the last week of the gradingperiod to request extra credit.A List of Expected Learner Outcomes:Below is an overview of the concepts the students will explore in 6th grade math: Ratios and Proportional Relationships (RP) Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems. The Number System (NS) Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions.Compute fluently with multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples.Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers. Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions.Reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities.Represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables. Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume. Develop understanding of statistical variability.Summarize and describe distributions. Expressions and Equations (EE) Geometry (G) Statistics and Probability (SP)**All units are based on the Tennessee State Standards. **
