PrefaceRecently, I came across a list someone had compiled of the things they had learned over a lifetime. Thefollowing are just a few of the items randomly selected from the list:Age 6Age 9Age 12Age 25Age 30Age 40Age 50Age 60Age 70Age 80Age 90I’ve learned that you can’t hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.I’ve learned that when I wave to people in the country, they stop what they are doing andwave back.I’ve learned that just when I get my room the way I like it, Mom makes me clean itup.I’ve learned that wherever I go, the world’s worst drivers have followed me there.I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that noone will believe it.I’ve learned that motel mattresses are better on the side away from the phone.I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he handles these three things:a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.I’ve learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life.I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on bothhands. You need to be able to throw something back.I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn. The most knowledgeable people in the world are the greatest learners. God counseled the one whowould be the leader of His people “to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law It is to be with him, andhe is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all thewords of this law.”1 Jesus instructed those who would be His disciples to “Take my yoke upon you and learnfrom me.”2This workbook is designed to help you as you continue a lifelong process of learning to listen to God asHe speaks to you through His Word and of learning to obey God as an expression of your love for Him.3My prayer is that as you meet the conditions of God’s promise to Joshua, and you do not “let this Book ofthe Law depart from your mouth; but meditate on it day and night,”4 that you will also receive the promisedblessing of success in possessing all that God has for you.In His Joy,1 Deuteronomy 17:18-192 Matthew 11:293 John 14:234 Joshua 1:83
