Sharks prefer to eat seals, sea lions, stingrays, whales, fish,octopi and even other sharks. But, most sharks are fierce animalsthat will naturally defend their territory or protect themselvesfrom human interference. The bestapproach to dealing with sharks is tosimply let them be.Different types of sharks use different strategies to hunt their prey.Great White Sharks tend to attack prey by ambushing from belowat high speeds. Because the prey never saw the shark coming,these are referred to as “Sneak Attacks”. Other sharks will bumpinto its prey several times and then finally bite a critical part of itsit and wait until it bleeds to death. This is a common strategy usedby Bull Sharks and is called the “Bump and Bite Attack.”Sharks are feared across the globe as predators of the sea. Manymovies and books have been made that include sharks as evileating machines that search out and attack people. The truth isthat most shark attacks on people are due to the shark defendingits own territory or a matter of mistaken identity. Many sharkshunt seals and sea lions and mistake wetsuit-wearing surfers anddivers as their favorite prey. But, once they take a bite, they realizethey’ve bitten into something unsavory and release the unluckyperson.
