Level 3 Diplomain Creative PracticeProject proposal guidance - Unit 3In producing the project proposal in responseto a set brief, and in preparing for the projectrealisation, you should familiarise yourselfwith Unit 3 of the qualification. In particular,you should understand the assessment andgrading criteria which will be used to determinestandards of achievement.Unit 3 requires you to produce a projectproposal in response to a set brief withinyour chosen vocational context. The proposalshould be of about 350 words, excluding theproject action plan and bibliography.Project proposals should not be so succinctthat they do not address the requirementslisted below, nor should they be excessivelylong and unfocused.Your project proposal should besufficiently challenging to ensure youhave the best possible chance of meetingthe grading criteria.Your project proposal should include:- Centre name and number- Candidate name and number- Project proposal title and date- Main area of practice/pathway.The project proposal must be presented underthe headings listed here:Section 1 - Rationale(Approximately 100 words)This section provides you with an opportunityto reflect on, review and summarise yourprogress and achievements through the firsttwo units of the qualification; the knowledge,skills and understanding you have acquiredand how that has informed your chosenspecialist practice. Compare what you knownow and what it means to you, to what youknew and could do before you started thecourse, and how this has influenced yourchoice of pathway and your project proposal.Section 2 – Project concept(Approximately 200 words)This section provides an opportunity for youto clearly explain the concept and aims ofyour project, what you intend to do and howyou will achieve your aims. The researchand ideas that will support its development,what you anticipate producing, the levels andtypes of resources that you will need, howyou will evidence consideration of the ethicaland environmental impact of your ideas andpractical outcomes and an indication of theform in which you will complete and presentyour project realisation within the allocatedtimescale.Section 3 - Evaluation(Approximately 50 words)This section provides an opportunity for youto explain how you will reflect on and evaluateyour work, as both an ongoing activity and atthe conclusion of the project.You should describe how you intend torecord your decision-making and how youwill document changes to your ideas as workprogresses.The evaluation should reference your statedaims and be reflective and analytical ratherthan a description of actions completed.Page 1

Your sources of research should be aswide as possible and could include libraries,galleries, books, magazines, films, computergames, websites, blogs, social media, radioprogrammes, archive material etc. Whereappropriate, you should use the Harvardsystem of referencing. The bibliographyshould be continuously updated as the projectprogresses.Project action plan and timetable:This section provides you with an opportunityto outline your planning and organisationover a period of weeks and the activities youwill need to carry out in order to successfullycomplete your project in the agreed timeframe. The more time and thought you give toplanning your project, the more successful it islikely to be.It is important that you consider how you willbalance ambition, time and realism in therealisation of the project. You should alsoinclude what you are going to do, how you willdo it and by when. Remember to include: timespent sourcing materials and other resourcesto conduct research, seek feedback from tutorsand peers, and identify when you will carry outindependent study.The following pages will provide you with atemplate for your project proposal.Page 2
