HOW TO TALK ABOUT SUPER LAWYERSWe stress the importance of proper usage of the term SuperLawyers for several reasons. First, it’s a distinct honor to beselected and we want each attorney on the list to be proudof his or her selection. Next, some state bar associationsgovern the use of lawyer ratings and marketing and we seek tocomply with those rules. Finally, Super Lawyers is a registeredtrademark.A lawyer on our list is not a “Super Lawyer.” Rather, “he orshe has been selected to the 2019 Minnesota Super Lawyerslist.” When used properly, the term is not descriptive orcomparative. Instead, it’s a fact-based statement, and assuch, is protected speech.Super Lawyers can refer to any or all of the following: the list,the magazine, the selection process and the honor.THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN DISCUSSING SUPER LAWYERS: Super Lawyers never refers to an individual attorney or group ofattorneys. Super Lawyers is always plural. Super Lawyers Magazine is always italicized. List the year and jurisdiction when applicable, e.g., 2019 TexasSuper Lawyers list. The Super Lawyers list recognizes no more than five percent ofattorneys in each state.
