Advanced Grading with RubricsAdvanced Forums and Assignments can be graded in GoucherLearn using Rubrics. You can create a newRubric from scratch or select and edit an existing Rubric Template (if someone has already created andsaved a Template). Advanced Forums and Assignments can be graded using the Rubrics by accessing theJoule Grader. Create Advanced Forums and Assignments using the Add an Activity or Resource link. Create a New Rubric from Scratch Create a New Rubric from a Template (saved on GoucherLearn) Grade with a Rubric in the Joule GraderSelect Advanced Forumin the Add an activity orresource box. (TheRubrics feature is not anavailable option if youselect a regular Forum.)When creating anAdvanced Forum, setthe Grade Type toManual and then setthe Grading Method toRubric using thedropdown menus.Then click theSave and display buttonat the bottom. Do notclick Save and return tocourse.When creating anAssignment, set theGrading Method toRubric using thedropdown menu.Then click theSave and display buttonat the bottom. Do notclick Save and return tocourse.

Advanced Grading with RubricsCreate a New Rubric from ScratchMake sure Rubric isselected in theChange active gradingmethod to menu.Click the Define newgrading form fromscratch box.Type a name for theRubric in the Name textbox. (You may want toreuse or share yourrubric template. If so,put your name in thetitle of the rubric.)Click on each box in theRubric and type in thetext to create thecriteria for grading. Ineach row, type in aCriterion followed bythe outcome Levels andPoints possible. ClickAdd level at the end ofeach row if needed.Click Add Criterion toadd new criterion rows.Click any X to delete asection. Selectadditional RubricOptions as desired.When completed, clickSave rubric and make itready. Note that therubric score will beweighted in relation tothe total number ofpoints you have set forthe assignment.2

Advanced Grading with RubricsCreate a New Rubric from a TemplateAfter clicking Save anddisplay (see page 1),click Create newgrading form from atemplate.To find Rubrics you haveused before, check theinclude my own formsbox in the Gradingforms search and typein a word that appearsin your Rubric title. Clickthe Search button.Scroll through theRubrics available andclick the Use this formas a template (your ownform) or Use thistemplate button (atemplate saved by aprogram administrator)next to the desiredRubric.You will be asked toconfirm that you wantto use the Rubric youselected. Click theContinue button.3

Advanced Grading with RubricsYou can now go to theJoule Grader and gradethe activity using therubric selected, or clickEdit the current formdefinition to makechanges to the selectedrubric.Give the Rubric a newname (if you will beediting it) to distinguishit from its current form.Click on each box tomake any edits desired.Click the Save button.4

Advanced Grading with RubricsYou will receive amessage to confirm thatyou want to use theselected Rubric. Clickthe Continue button.Grade with a Rubric in the Joule GraderClick theJoule Grader link in theAdministration block(found below theGrades link to the gradebook).Click the dropdownmenus at the top toselect a graded activityand a student to begraded. If you cannotfind your graded activityin the dropdown menu,review the directions onpage 1 to make sure thecorrect Grade Typesettings have beenselected.Click theGrade with rubricbutton.5

Advanced Grading with RubricsTo grade the activity,click the box in each rowto select the points tobe given for eachcriterion.Type in feedback asdesired at the end ofeach row or in theOverall feedback boxbelow.Click the Save gradebutton at the bottom ofthe page.The total grade for eachgraded item will becalculated from thepoints selected in therubric.Note that the rubricscore will be weightedin relation to the totalnumber of points youhave set for theassignment.6

Advanced Grading with RubricsThe grade and feedbackcan also be edited insidethe grade book.Click the Grades link inthe Administrationblock to open the gradebook.Click the pencil iconfound at the top of eachcolumn in the gradebook.7
