No Internet? No Problem!Work Offline at Home With ChromebooksThe hamburger button is linked to the next slide.

Directions will cover: Google Drive settings. Downloading a document,image, etc. for offline work. Syncing work at school. Erasing downloaded content. Save to Google Drive extensionThe home icon is linked to the first slide.

Attention:You must have access to theInternet (wifi) to set up offlineaccess!All setup using these directionsshould happen at school.

1. Adjust Google SettingsStep 1: Google Drive Go to Google Drive SettingsLocate the Offline section on the page.Check the box next to Sync Google Docs, Sheets, Slides& Drawings

Step 2:Settings for SaveGoogle Docs,Sheets, & SlidesOffline Go to Google Drive Right click theGoogle Docs,Sheets, or Slides fileyou want to saveoffline. Turn on "AvailableOffline." Go to Google Drive

2. Work Offline at HomeUnavailable items inoffline Google Drivewill appear fadedor grayed-out. Go to Google Drive(works even ifcomputer is offline) Open the file you wantto work on from withinyour offline GoogleDrive. The little lightning bolticon beside thepresentation's titleshows you're workingoffline.

3. Using WebPages and OtherResourcesDo at schoolOfflineBEFOREheadinghome!Tip:Open GoogleDrive from theChromebook's taskbar -- orbookmark it.

Save Web Pages as PDF When you find an article or website you want to save,you can press Ctrl P.To do so, press the buttons Ctrl P (control button & P button at the sametime) Pros easiest way to readinformation; saves directly into yourGoogle Drive or the Downloadsarea of yourChromebook's Files;Select Saveas PDF for downloads or Saveto Google Drive for Drive.

Note:Students are encouragedto use Save to GoogleDrive, so they get into thehabit of making resourcesavailable for offline use.Cons may sometimes black out areaswhere images, graphics, andvideos are located. If these itemsare needed, download themseparately. for image-heavy pages, make surethe entire page has loaded beforeturning it into a PDF.Time Tip:Create a file in GoogleDrive. Label it OfflineUse, or something likethat, and save theseitems there.

4. Saving Images and Videos Offline Images -- use the same process for saving web pages. Videos -- downloads will depend on the video. YouTube items can'tbe saved into Google Drive or downloaded. For other types ofvideos, try using the process for saving web pages. Please notethat videos take up a lot of storage, so your device may not haveenough room to store that download.Remember!Save to Google Drive intothe special folder youcreated and then makeavailable for Offline usewith a right click!

5. Syncing Offline Work to the CloudAny changes you make offline willautomatically sync to Google Drivethe next time your Chromebookconnects to the Internet.It's THATeasy!The home icon is linked to the first slide.

6. Chromebook HousekeepingDownloading items for offline work means that you are storing themon the actual device. However, Chromebooks do not have a lot ofstorage room. Keep in mind that videos and images take up more space.Files must be deleted from the device in order to download newmaterial.

Chromebook ExtensionsExtensions can be used to make work easier on theChromebook. Click on the link below to install thefollowing extension to your Chrome Browser.1. Save to Google Drive extension -- save any webpage, image, etc. directly into Drive. If you save thematerial directly into a special Offline folder, it canspeed up making it available for use elsewhere.Note: Apps and extensions are being moved out of the Google web store and into the GoogleMarketplace. If the links above stop working, check the Marketplace.

Just click the button to add it to your Google Chromebrowser.Note: the Google Docs Offline Chrome Extension is already installed for all staff and students.
