PREFACEThe American people are demanding more and better healthservices, and these services can be provided only by speciallytrained and educated personnel.Present trends indicate the growth of health service in thecoming decade will far outpace the growth of population. At thesame time, the health worker shortage will in all probability con'tinue to worsen. The changing character of health care, on theother hand, has brought into being a number of new categories ofallied health personnel, some of which did not exist ten years ago.Although the problems of delivery of adequate health services aremany, an important factor is still related to inadequate supply ofskilled health personnel. The shortage of competent manpower in hualth, education, andwelfare services is a major problem in virtually every communityacross the country. In order to close the gap between need andavailability of health personnel for our new and expanding medicalservices, we must take action at the local and state levels.Moreeffectual recruitment of our youths into health occupations isimperative. The Labor Index describes over 200 occupations in health. This first volume does not cover all the health occupations, however the editor hopes it will provide a base to build upon, as wellas to prospective students information on health occupations currently with critical shortage in the State of Missouri.J.C.W.iii

When recording archaeological finds using illustration, it is vital that you look very closely at the features visible on the objects. It is also important to look at colours, textures and materials. The ‘potato game’ is designed to get children looking at everyday objects that are usually taken for granted and spotting small features that make them unique. The game will also develop .
