Big news from Ford's auto motive line is the compact sedan,Contour, and sister car, MercuryMystique. These models replace theTempo/fopaz. The base engine is a2.0-liter, 16-valve, inline four-cylinderengine rated at 125-hp. The optional2.5-liter engine is a 170-horse, 24valve V-6 with recommended tune ups at 100,000-mile intervals. BothContour and Mystique are towableonly if fitted with the manual five speed transaxle. Ford's economyEscort and Mercury Tracer are stillsome of the most popular dinghiesavailable. Each has a standard driv er's airbag and restyled interior for1995. Excel will be phased outin 1995 and will be replaced by thecompact Accent. Accents featuredual airbags and optional ABS. So nata and Scoupe remain virtuallyunchanged, while the Elantra getsa new interior and better sound deadening insulation.MazdaThis year the Navajo has beendropped. The B-series pickup trucksare the only Mazda vehicles approvedfor dinghy service. They will featurea new instrument layout and stan dard driver's airbag. All the tow re quirements of the Ranger apply tothe B-pickups.NissanNissan's 1995 tow situation remainstatus quo. Although towing on allfours behind a motorhome is notMotorHome, March 1995addressed in the owner's manual,technical bulletins NTB91-061 andNTB90-004 cover 1987 through 1991models. These still apply to the drive lines that are used this 1995 modelyear. Nissan has a distance limiton all of its cars and trucks; it's 500miles for manual transmission mod els equipped with the four-cylinderengines and 200 miles with the man ually shifted V-6s. Once the distancelimitations are reached, the engineshould be started for a few minutesor the vehicle driven a short distanceto ensure transmission lubrication.Nissan's Altima has seen minor sheet metal reconfiguration, while theMaxima has a new 3.0-liter V-6, whichis lighter weight and more power ful than its predecessor.
