This will release any accumulatedhydrogen gas, As the gas is flammable,do not smoke or use an open flameduring this time. Do not allow children to play on or in thewasher. Close supervision of children isnecessary when the washer is used nearchildren. Before the washer is removed fromservice or discarded, remove the lid. For a grounded, cordconnected washer:Selecting the proper location for yourwasher will improve its performanceand minimize concerns like washerwalk or noise.ELECTRICALREQUIREMENTS120-Volt, 60-Hz., AC-only, 15- or20-ampere fused electrical supply isrequired. (Time-delay fuse or circuitbreaker is recommended.) Connectto an individual branch circuit.GROUNDINGINSTRUCTIONSThis washer must be grounded. In theevent of malfunction or breakdown,grounding will reduce the risk of electrical shock by providing a path of leastresistance for electric current. Thiswasher is equipped with a cord havingan equipment-grounding conductor anda grounding plug. The plug must beplugged into an appropriate outlet thatis properly installed and grounded inaccordance with all local codes andordinances.WARNING:ElectricalShock HazardPlug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.Do not remove ground prong.Do not use an adapter.Do not use an extension cord.Failure to follow these instructionscan result in death, fire, orelectrical shock.This washer is equipped with a powersupply cord having a 3-prong groundingplug. The installation spacing is in inches(centimeters) and is the minimumallowable. Allow additional space if other appliances are to be installed in the area. If closet door is installed, the minimumair openings in top and bottom arerequired. Leuvered doors withequivalent air openings in top andbottom are acceptable.11

LAUNDRY TUB DRAIN SYSTEMCheck location where washer will beinstalled. This washer can be installedusing one of three systems: Laundry tub drain system (below) Standpipe drain system (p, 13) Floor drain system (p. 13)Grounded receptacle: Mustbe within 4 ft (1.2 m) of wherethe power cord is attached tothe back of the washer.Hot and cold water faucets:Must provide water pressurebetween 20-100 psi and bewithin 4 fl (1.2 m) of the hot andcold water fill valves attached tothe back of the washer.%Support: Floor must be sturdyenough to support a total weight of315 Ibs (143 kg) (including washer,water, and load weight).12Do not store or operate washer at orbelow 32 F (0 C) (some water mayremain in washer), See page 41 forwinterizing information.Proper installation is your responsibility,Make sure you have everything necessary for correct installation including thefollowing points:Level floor: Maximumallowable slope under entirewasher - 1 in (2.5 cm).Laundry tub drain system:Needs a minimum 20 gal(76 L) laundry tub.least 39 in (99 cm)above floor and nohigher than 96 in(2.4 m) from bottomof washer.

ALTERNATE LOCATIONS STANDPIPE AND FLOOR DRAIN SYSTEMSSiphon break: Must be purchasedseparately. B. REMOVE SHIPPING STRAPIVt,J,i'm, -" "-I [ :J[i"STEP 2. Pull firmly to remove theother end of the shipping strap pinnedto the back of washer. This willrelease the rear self-leveling legs.Removing the shipping strap isnecessary for smooth operation,If the shipping strap is notremoved, the washer will makeexcessive noise,LTo prevent floor damage, set washer ontocardboard before moving across floor.Move washer close to its final location.STEP 1. Do not cut yellow strap. Pullyellow strap firmly, until completelyremoved from washer. Depending onyour model, there should be either twoor three cotter pins on the end of theshipping strap when it is pulled out ofthe washer, The electrical plug isattached to this shipping strap.Electrical plug\ippingstrapPULLPin14STEP 3. Cut the shipping strap about16 in (40 cm) from plug end. Look for thewords "CUT HERE." Discard end with thecotter pins. Slide remainder of shippingstrap free from the electrical plug. Youwill use this to secure the drain hose.

C. CONNECT DRAIN HOSEProper connection of the drain hosewill protect your floors from damagedue to water leakage,STEP 1. To prevent the drain hose fromcoming off or leaking, it must be installedper the following instructions:IMPORTANT: To ensure proper installation, this procedure must be followedexactly.)TWISTa. Wet the inside of the straight end of thedrain hose with tap water. DO NOTUSE ANY OTHER LUBRICANT.b, Squeeze ears of silver, double-wireclamp with pliers to open, Place clampover the straight end of the drain hosein (6 mm) from the end.d. Place clamp over area marked"CLAMR" Release clamp.(6Y rnnrn)Drain H se ,c. IE s"DrainHosemSTEP 3. Put hooked end of drain hoseinto laundry tub or standpipe. Checkfor proper length of drain hose. Rotatehook to eliminate kinks.Proper connection of your inlet hoseswill allow hot and cold water to enteryour washer properly. We recommendconnecting both the hot and coldwater inlet hoses for optimal performance of your washer. If you onlyconnect one water hose, you mustcap off the remaining water inlet port.NOTE: Replace inlet hoses after fiveyears of use to reduce the risk of hosefailure. Periodically inspect and replaceinlet hoses if bulges, kinks, cuts, wear,or leaks are found. When replacingyour inlet hoses, mark the date ofreplacement on the label with apermanent marker.STEP 1. Insert one new, flat washer(from the parts bag) into each end ofthe inlet hoses. Check that washersare firmly seated in couplings.0To prevent drain water from going backinto the washer: Do not straighten hooked end of drainhose and force excess drain hose intostandpipe. Hose should be secure butloose enough to provide a gap for air. Do not lay excess drain hose in bottomof laundry tub.16COUPLINGWASHER

STEP 2. Attach the hose with the redcoupling to the hot water (bottom) inletvalve, Attaching the red coupling firstmakes it easier to tighten connection withpliers. Screw on coupling by hand, Makean additional two4hirds turn with pliers totighten coupling. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN;this could damage the valves.E, CONNECTINLETHOSESTO WATER FAUCETSSTEP 1. Make sure washer basket isempty. Run water through both faucetsinto a bucket or laundry tub to get rid ofparticles in the water lines that might cloghoses. Determine which faucet is hot andwhich is cold. Mark the hot water faucet.ColdWaterInletValveWaterInletValveSTEP 3. Attach the hose with the bluecoupling to the cold water (top) inlet valve.Screw on coupling by hand. Make an additional two4hirds turn with pliers to tightencoupling, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN; thiscould damage valves.STEP 2, Attach the hose with the redcoupling to the hot water faucet, Screwon coupling by hand. Make an additionaltwo4hirds turn with pliers to tightencoupling. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN;this could damage the coupling.STEP 3. Attach the hose with the bluecoupling to the cold water faucet.Screw on coupling by hand. Make anadditional two4hirds turn with pliers totighten coupling. DO NOTOVERTIGHTEN; this could damagethe coupling.STEP 4. Turn on water faucets andcheck for leaks. A small amount of watermay enter the washer. F. SECURE DRAIN HOSEi-m-volIP""-Z:-]i [:4 IT,Securing the drain hose properly willprotect your floors from damage dueto water leakage.STEP 1. Move washer to its finallocation.STEP 2. Locate the remaining pieceof shipping strap (not the end with thecotter pins) from STEP 3 of"REMOVE SHIPPING STRAP." Useit to wrap the drain hose together withthe laundry tub or standpipe. Pushfastener into the nearest hole in theshipping strap.Fastener18If the water faucets and drain standpipeare recessed, put hooked end of drainhose in standpipe. Tightly wrap theshipping strap around the drain hoseand water inlet hoses (not the handlesor stems). Push fastener into thenearest hole in the shipping strap.

G. LEVEL WASHERi-m-volIP""-I:-] i [:4 i'[,Leveling your washer properly prevents excessive noise and vibration.To install front legs:STEP 1. Prop front of washer up (about4 in [10.2 cm]). Use a wood block oranother object that will support the weightof the washer. If washer was placedagainst a wall, move the washer outslightly before tipping it up.STEP 5. Move washer to its finallocation.STEP 6. Tilt washer forward until rearof washer is at least 3 in (7.6 cm) off floor.You may hear the self-adjusting rearlegs click into place. Lower washer tofloor. Check levelness of the washerby placing a level on top of the washer,first side4o-side; then front4o-back.STEP 2. With one of the legs in hand,screw lock nut onto leg in (9.5 mm)from top of leg base. This is therecommended initial setting.STEP 7. If washer is not level, propup the front of the washer and adjustthe legs up or down as necessary.Lower washer and reset self-adjustingrear legs (as in Step 6). Repeat Step 7until the washer is level.STEP 3. Screw leg into washer baseby hand until nut reaches washer base.Repeat for other leg.JSTEP 8. When washer is in its finallocation and level, use a in (1.43 cm)open-end wrench to turn nuts on frontlegs tightly against washer cabinet.If nuts are not tight against washercabinet, the washer may vibrate./STEP 4
