VEHICLE VIN & MAINTENANCE CHECK1.2.Run Warranty Vehicle Inquiry in eMDCS tocheck for any voided factorywarranties/branded titleIt is your responsibility to carefully review the vehicle history report and properly determine theeligibility of the vehicle.Vehicle History Report - Run, print, inspectfor eligibility and attachMazda pays Auto Check for all vehicle history reports run in conjunction with the CPO program.First, run a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry in eMDCS to check for any voided factorywarranties/branded title which would make the vehicle ineligible for certification.Generate a Vehicle History Report before starting the official 160-Point Certification Inspection.You must check for any voided factory warranties/ branded title which would make the vehicleineligible for certification. Any of the following conditions, all of which should be identified priorto vehicle reconditioning, will immediately disqualify a vehicle from the program. VEHICLE VIN & MAINTENANCE CHECK5.Check PCM (Power Control Module) and TCM(Transmission Control Module) calibrationsand update to the latest calibrationThe current IDS release can be found online on the Mazda Service Support System (MS3) underthe "IDS/Infotainment" tab.6.Check for DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)and diagnose if presentDiagnose all DTC(s) according to the instructions found on the Mazda Service Support System(MS3). Search MS3 by selecting the model year and model on the pull-down menus, then enterthe Diagnostic Trouble Code (ex. UNDER THE HOOD7.Replace air filterReplace with Genuine Mazda Air Filter.8.Replace wiper blades & top off washer fluidReplace with Genuine Mazda Wiper Inserts.9.Confirm that fuel cap is present and that itseals properlyIf the fuel cap is missing or does not seal tightly, an emissions DTC (i.e. P0xxx) may be stored inthe vehicle PCM. If so, replace the fuel cap with a Mazda genuine fuel cap, then erase the DTCaccording to the Workshop Manual on MS3 online.10.Confirm belts have no cracks or excessivewear and have proper tensionReplace cracked/damaged belts according to the engine system section of the Workshop Manualon MS3 online.11.Confirm there are no engine oil leaksIf an engine oil leak is found, refer to the Workshop Manual on MS3 online for inspection andrepair procedures (i.e. faulty oil filter seal, etc.).12.Confirm there are no broken or missing ducts,brackets or engine coversMissing air ducts, brackets and engine covers can be ordered through the Mazda GEPC.13.Confirm there is no water/coolant in theengine oilIf there is coolant found mixed in the engine oil, diagnose engine block for cracks/leaks. It islikely the engine will need to be replaced.14.Confirm there are no obvious broken ordamaged components in the engine compartmentReplace any broken or damaged engine compartment components as necessary.15.Brake master cylinder and clutch mastercylinder has the correct fluid level16.Power steering reservoir is at the correct level17.Remove oil cap to confirm no sludge build upSludge build-up in the oil cap may indicate a sludge problem in the engine. If sludge is found inthe oil cap, refer to the Workshop Manual on MS3 online for further engine inspection.Engine Coolant18.Confirm cooling fan operation19.Confirm water pump does not generate anynoise or have any leaksIf the water pump leaks or makes noise, replace it according to the Workshop Manual on MS3online.20. Confirm there are no obvious signs ofrefrigerant leakage from A/C systemhoses/o-ringsRefer to the Workshop Manual on MS3 online for A/C cooling specification at the vent. If the A/Conly blows warm air and refrigerant leakage is determined, refer to the Workshop Manual onMS3 online for A/C component inspection and repair procedure.23. Fully drain existing engine coolant andreplace with ONLY Mazda genuine FL22pre-mixed engine coolant.DO NOT add any water to the FL22 coolantPlease use as a standard guideline for Engine Coolant FL22.1) If Dealer loaner vehicles (with low mileage) in service less than 1 year: DO NOT replace theengine coolant.2) If vehicles in service less than 5 years with less than 60,000 miles: DO NOT replace theengine coolant.NOTE: It is not necessary to replace the engine coolant on vehicles in service for less than 5 years andless than 60,000 miles, unless there is a problem (i.e. engine overheats, coolant leakage or radiatorreplacement, etc.) that requires coolant replacement. IMPORTANT: If engine coolant replacement isnecessary for vehicles (1) or (2), use ONLY Mazda genuine FL22 pre-mixed genuine coolant. DO NOTadd any water to the FL22 coolant. Adding water to FL22 will dilute the coolant mixture and enginecooling performance will be reduced.3) Vehicles in service less than 5 years with 60,000 miles or more: REPLACE the enginecoolant with FL22.4) Vehicles in service 5 years or more, regardless of mileage: REPLACE engine coolant with FL22.Further details can be found on the Service Bulletin TSB 01-002/16 on MS3.Battery24. Battery is correct specification for thisvehicleTip: Refer to the GEPC (Global Electric Parts Catalog) or the vehicle owner’s manual to confirmcorrect battery specification for the vehicle. If battery replacement is required, using the correctMazda genuine battery is recommended. Ensure battery requirements meets specification forthe vehicle. If vehicle is equipped with the I-ELOOP option, it requires a special I-ELOOP battery.The I-ELOOP battery has quick charging capabilities other batteries no not have. These batteriesare not interchangeable.25. Battery posts are free of corrosion andproperly securedClean all corrosion found on battery posts with a wire brush.26. Battery cables are in good condition andproperly securedReplace damaged or corroded battery cables with new ones.27.Check the battery using the Midtronics GR8 Battery Management System and confirm thebattery voltage is at 12.4V (including I-ELOOP battery). If battery replacement is required, usingthe correct Mazda genuine battery is recommended.Battery is charged to a minimum of 12.4V28. Confirm tires (including the spare tire) arefree from defects or damageReplace any tire(s) found to have cuts, bulges, cupping, excessive damage or defects.30. Confirm tires have minimum 5/32 inch or50% tread remainingReplace tires not meeting the minimum 5/32 inch or 50% tread remaining.31.IMPORTANT: Refer to the appropriate Owner's Manual for TPMS resetting procedures. If a customeris purchasing a vehicle equipped with TPMS that requires manually resetting the system using theTPMS switch located on the dash, they must be trained how and when to do so. NOTE: Older Mazdavehicles (prior to 2013MY) equipped with TPMS do not require manually resetting; there is no TPMSswitch on the dash. Refer to the Workshop Manual on MS3 for dealer resetting instructions.Set tires to proper inflation. Reset TPMS32. All four tires must be of same brand, model,and size and meet OEM standardsIMPORTANT: All four (4) tires mounted on the vehicle must be of the same brand, model, size, treaddesign, speed and load rating. All valve stems must have caps. If not OEM equipped, the spare tirecircumference must be the same. The spare must meet the same standards as OEM equipped tires,but it does not have to be the same brand as the four tires mounted on the vehicle. The correct tireinflation pressures can be obtained from the vehicle label attached to the driver side door jamb.33. Confirm wheels are not damaged and do nothave major scratchesWheels must be the same size and offset as OEM. Aftermarket wheels meeting these criteria areacceptable if size does not exceed the largest factory wheel for that specific model.34. Check that wheel covers and caps are allpresent and securedMissing wheel covers and center caps can be ordered through the Mazda GEPC.35. Confirm struts/shocks do not leak or showexcessive wearReplace worn or leaking struts or shocks. ALWAYS replace in axle pairs. CAUTION: DO NOT usesolvents in the area of the strut seal when cleaning these components to avoid damaging seals.36. Replace disc brake pads if wear is greaterthan 50%If necessary, replace the brake pads with Genuine Mazda parts according to brake section of theWorkshop Manual on MS3 online.37.If necessary, replace the rear brake shoes with Genuine Mazda parts according to brake sectionof the Workshop Manual on MS3 online.Replace brake shoes if wear is greater than 50%38. Confirm tie rod ends, ball joints, othersuspension links and bushings are notdamaged, excessively worn/looseReplace any and all damaged suspension components according to the suspension systemsection of the Workshop Manual on MS3 online.Drive Train41.Confirm that CV joints and boots are notdamaged Drive TrainReplace damaged/leaking boots according to the suspension system section of the WorkshopManual on MS3 online.42. Check condition of drive shaft U jointsApplies to rear drive and AWD vehicles43. Confirm transmission is not leakingAllow engine to reach normal operating temperature. While idling, pull out the A/T dipstick, does theATF smell burnt? If yes, it is likely that transmission slippage has occurred resulting in internaltransmission damage. Refer to the Workshop Manual on MS3 online for further inspection and diagnosis.Transmission replacement may be required. Flushing the existing transmission lines of debris is veryimportant before installing a new transmission. If flushing is not done, the debris can damage the newreplacement transmission.44. Confirm there is no engine oil leaks fromunder the vehicleAllow engine to idle and check for engine oil leaks. Repair any oil leaks according to the enginesection of the Workshop Manual on MS3 online.45. Confirm there are no engine coolant leaksfound under the vehicleAllow engine to idle and check for engine coolant leaks. Repair any coolant leaks according tothe engine section of the Workshop Manual on MS3 online.46. Confirm there is no damage to drive shaftand/or axle shaftsFrame & Underbody47.Confirm there is no frame or unibody damageCheck frame/unibody for evidence of damage; no non factory welds, no cracks, no holes, notbent, no evidence of flood damage. Refer to the Body shop Manual on MS3 online as neededfor correct frame/body dimensions.48. Confirm there is no excessive rustConfirm there is no major water damage/excessively heavy corrosion present. However, somesurface rust under a used vehicle is normal. Make no repairs.49. Confirm fuel tank and fuel lines have nodamage or leaksReplace any and all damaged fuel system components according to the fuel system section ofthe Workshop Manual on MS3 online. Also confirm the quality of the fuel in the tank.
