What does CNA stand for? CNA stands for certified nursing assistant. Acertified nursing assistant or certified nursing aide issomeone who has successfully completed anapproved nursing assistant training program.

What does a CNA do?CNAs work under the direct supervision of alicensed nurse (LPN or RN) and are an importantpart of the healthcare team. Perform direct care duties, including bathing,feeding, dressing, and ambulating. Collect important information such as vital signs, andintake & output and report it to the licensed nurse.

What is the Difference in a CNA andGNA? Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) ACNA is a person who has completed an approvednursing assistant program and has been certified asnursing assistant by the board of nursing. The CNAdoesn’t have to take the state exam. Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) TheGNA is a person who has completed an approvednursing assistant program and has been certified asnursing assistant by the board of nursing. The CNA hasto take the state exam to obtain another certification tobecome a GNA.

Two Certifications You have the opportunity to obtain 2 certificationsat one time in some of our CNA/GNA program. How? Theknowledge and skills you learn from thesecourses prepares you for both certifications. 1st Certification - Once you have successfullycompleted the course (classroom and clinical),your instructor will show you how to apply for thecertified nursing assistant certification. The fee is 20.

Two Certifications 2nd Certification - If you are interested in the 2ndcertification (Geriatric Nursing Assistantcertification), let your instructor know and a time willbe set up for your group to take the GNA exam atMontgomery College.There is an additional fee of 120 for this exam.The hospital-based course is not eligible to take thisexam.The GNA certification is not required for thehospital-based programs

Where can CNAs and GNAs work? Becoming a certified nursing assistant offers endlesspossibilities. As a certified nursing assistant (CNA)you can work in hospitals, physician’s offices,assisted living facilities, adult daycare centers, homecare agencies and in the school system.GNAs can also work in the above and work in longterm care facilities such as nursing homes andassisted living.

How long is the CNA/GNA program? The CNA program is a total of 8-12 weeksdepending on location you choose: 88hours of lecture, discussion and hands on practicerequired by the Maryland Board of Nursing 60 hours of clinical required by the Maryland Board ofNursing

What are the classes?Part 1 - Certified Nursing Assistant Classroom In this course, students will learn basic nursing skills including taking vital signs,assuring patient safety, and caring for patients with variety of medical disorders.After successful completion of the classroom and clinical portions, you will receive acertificate of completion award from Montgomery College.Upon the completion of the CNA class, the student must complete an application andpay a fee of 20.00 to the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON).Your instructor will set up background check and fingerprinting to apply for yourCNA certificate in class. Please bring 2 forms of ID.If you wish to be employed as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant, after completion of thecourse, you may apply to take the Geriatric Nursing Assistant Licensing examinationfor an additional 120.00.2 forms of ID will be needed for CNA registration and GNA state exam.

Part 2 - Certified Nursing Assistant ClinicalThis course are only for students who havesuccessfully completed the Nursing Assistant Classroom. Clinicals are offered at 2 longterm care facilities, Shady Grove Adventist andSuburban Hospitals.

Where are the classes? Classes are held at the following locations: TakomaPark/Silver Spring Campus Germantown Campus Asbury Methodist Village Wilson Rehab Center Brooke Grove Nursing and Rehab CenterDue to the COVID19 outbreak, classes are temporarilybeing taught online via Zoom. Once it has been deemedsafe to return to campus, classes will resume face to face.

Entering Health Sciences Building On-campus designated lab days will be held at theTPSS campus or the new Mannakee Building onRockville campus (coming Fall 2021).You will be required to complete the WDCE Hub onBlackboard which explains the procedure ofentering the building as well as a daily selfscreening survey. Your instructor will give you theinformation on how to complete.You will also be required to wear a mask, socialdistance, and wash hands.

How much does the program cost? Certified Nursing Assistant Classroom (CNA) Course: AHT028/NUR070 88 Hours Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only. 840 275 fee 1115; Non-Md.residents add 650. How Do I Register?Once test results are reviewed and you have passedwith an 80% or higher, your name will be given toCustomer Service authorizing you to register online.When registering online: Please use name that is on your current Identifications If you use a name that is different than name oncurrent IDs, it will be difficult to process yourapplication with the Maryland Board of Nursing

Registering with the correct name It is important that the name on your certificate ofcompletion, matches the name you register with.If you have taken a course at Montgomery Collegeand your name has changed, a name change formwill need to be completed. Forms can be requestedonline by contacting WD&CE Customer Servicemontgomerycollege.edu/wdce or call 240-5675188

Creating MyMC Email Address Once you have registered for the program, youmust create a MyMC email address. This isimportant because this is the only way we willcommunicate with you once class starts.You will be able to set up your email once youreceive your receipt in the mail. Equipment Needed Books and an equipment bag (stetethoscope, bloodpressure cuff, gait belt, gloves, etc) are included inthe price of tuition.Students must purchase white uniforms (white pants,white top, white shoes, white socks). You canpurchase scrubs at Walmart or any uniform shop, oreven online, watch w/second hand (no digitals) – donot spend a lot of money on these items.
