RightStartMath.com888-775-6284 or 701-782-2000This award-winning and innovative hands-on programde-emphasizes counting, uses visualization of quantities, and provides strategies (visual pictures) for learning thefacts. Understanding and problem solving are emphasizedthroughout the curriculum. The primary learning tool is the AL Abacus. We know thatchildren learn best when they can handle objects and thinkabout the inherent patterns. This abacus is a speciallydesigned two-sided abacus that is both kinesthetic andvisual. The AL Abacus has 100 beads grouped in fives by colorand grouped in tens by rows. When two quantities areadded, the sum is apparent: no further counting isnecessary. Children develop visual strategies as they usethis manipulative. Side 2 of the AL Abacus teaches placevalue to the thousands.Children enjoy using the abacus, but it doesn’t become acrutch. Five-year-old Stan was asked, “How much is11 6?” When he said 17, he was asked how he knewthe answer. With a grin, he replied, “I’ve got the abacusin my mind.”Teach children, starting at a young age,or anywhere along their mathematicseducation journey, so they will have alife long love of math. Use the keypower of visualization to help childrenunderstand mathematics. The elementary and middle schoolprogram lessons guide the teacherday-by-day and year-by-year, helpingchildren understand, apply, and enjoymathematics while surpassing therecommended standards. The RightStart Mathematicshomeschool program is set up withlevels, rather than grades, so that yourchild can begin at the proper level andadvance at their own pace. The classroom program uses traditionalgrades.Practice is provided with math card games, minimizingreview worksheets and eliminating stressful flash cards. These games provide interesting and varied repetition foran automatic response to the facts. More importantly, these games provide an application for new informationand create hours of fun learning math facts and concepts. The middle school curriculum, Level G, RightStart Mathematics: A Hands-On Geometric Approach, is aninnovative approach for teaching middle schoolmathematics. Since the vast majority of middle schoolstudents are visual learners, approaching mathematicsthrough geometry gives the student an excellent way tounderstand, remember concepts, and create deeperlearning. This research based math program is developed byDr. Joan A. Cotter, electrical engineer, certified Montessoriteacher, middle-school math teacher, and mathematicseducation doctorate.Mary Pride’sPractical HomeschoolReader AwardsHomeschool Parent’sSeal of ApprovalOutstandingLearning Success ResourceAwardLearning-Success Institute OutstandingLearning SuccessResource AwardThe Old SchoolhouseExcellence inEducation Award

Mission Statement:Helping children understand, apply, and enjoy mathematics.RightStart Mathematics uses the AL Abacus to provide a visual, auditory, and kinesthetic experience. TheAL Abacus is grouped in fives and tens for quick recognition of quantities. Children develop visual strategiesas they use this manipulative. Side 2 of the AL Abacus teaches place value to the thousands.AL Abacus Standard This 71/2 " x 91/2 " (19 cm x 24.5 cm) plastic AL Abacus has one hundred beadsgrouped in 5s and 10s to encourage quantity recognition and visual perception. On one side, children canperform basic operations through division and learn strategies for mastering the facts. On the reverse, trading is emphasized.AL Abacus for the Vision Impaired This AL Abacus has a plastic frame and plastic beads. Beads aresmooth and faceted for the visually impaired. Colors may vary.
